have to say that Qld were deserving winners; NSW played like the bloody wallabies in the second half - shocking; and was it me or did King play out of position for most of the night in defence??? I mean look at how far in field he kept creeping?
Kick, chase, watch NSW fumble, score.
It was brilliant!
I loved the Lockyer try and the Steve Price try.

I agree, King was caught out several times, but only due to the fact that his inside man was standing 20 metres infield. I don't know where Lyon was in defence, but it was where he was suppose to be. To be fair to King, he tried to stay out but with no one coming across to help, he was made to look like a goose.

I thought the ref had quite a good game, seemed to let heaps more go then a usual premiership game, even tried to avoid the video ref as much as he could.
Q'land should feel a little hard done by if anyone should, Steve Price's first half effort looked to me to be a fair try, bit harsh to call it forward in my book. Still not sure if Hindy got the ball down for NSW...

Probably the same ref from the GF last year!
There lies the problem with State of Origin with the Kaufusi injury, what compensation does the club get?
Even though I like the concept, that's why we dropped it in AFL, the investment in the players is too high for the clubs to risk them in these events!

AFL went too far with State of Origin...notice how the NFL has no Victorian team or "All Stars" etc, but keeps the competition to the traditional rivals...
IMO AFL State of Origin would be still alive if we had kept it to the 3 traditional rivals!
But that's a discussion for another thread.
Love watching State of Origin matches whatever the football code. They really demonstrate how good the best players really are! Great match on Tuesday night.

I miss AFL State of Origin. It was the highest honour the players could get as there is no national side in AFL.
NRL clubs just have to take it on the chin. I think it's great to see that these guys are prepared to go out and put it all on the line in the best leaugue games in the world for the year.

I'd rather watch it than AFL. I can't stand AFL football. I used to go every week for many years, but they lost me when they decided you had to go into the city to watch a game. I was living in South Gippsland and decided it just wasn't worth it.

I agree somewhat lasts nights game was a shambles. Too quick and too many errors. The fact that you cant put a finger on the back of someone is a discrace, and so is the inconsistancy of the umpiring. One week they pay a free and the other week they dont. The quip that 'at least their consistant' for that game is no excuse at all.

That and the fact an AFL SOO won't sell-out. If there was a guaranteed sell-out the AFL would tell the clubs to suck it up and cop it if a player was injured.

I feel it is no longer a true reflection of the game. With a bunch of interchange players & the players being paid 6 figure sums just to play football.
There is also the matter of double standards which the Courts set, let alone the Club (ie Todd Carney driving while disqualified & because he seems to be the up 'n' coming player gets the Raiders suppport the other fellow in the Car [also a Raider] gets his marching orders because he's coming to the end of his career.

Overall the referee last night, seemed to look the other way alot. I think that he was trying the Bill Harrigan aproach to just let the game flow and not blow a penalty

Agree 100%. The pass was forward, but NSW benefitted from a couple of dodgy penalties as well in the context of the game I thought.

Big thumbs down to the NSW backline (except Stewart) who never looked like threatening Qld. Jamie Lyon has had an armchair ride straight back into rep footy without warrant IMO  Mat King needs to learn to stay on his wing at times.
Willie Mason looked strong though, Anasta is STILL the most overated player EVER, and i think Kimmorley did his best but with not alot of support...

I think the whole game was too static.
Too much one-out stuff and I can't remember one instance where the ball was passed along either backline. Both sets of halves seemed content to keep turning the ball back to forwards.
Both centre pairings struggled to get involved and the wingers only saw the ball from kick returns or when they came in close for a run from dummy-half.
Tumbo
14-06-2007, 12:32 PM
I'd disagree on both centre pairings - Hodges had a good game as did Cooper even with a niggle in the knee. Bell didn't get involved until his move to the wing when Tate left the field and Jamie well

Totally Agree. Stewart played himself into game 3. He was faultless. Was probably the blues best, along with Noddy and Buderus.
Jamie Lyon has to go. He costs us in game 1 and he costs us again last night. He gave poor cooper a hospital pass with a death certificate attached to it. He then couldn't bring Lockyer down which meant King had to help him out and that lead to Inglis going in untouched. Then to cap off a brilliant game, he loses the ball while the Blues are on the attack. He should go back home and chase pigs.:veryangry2:
It's also time for the selectors to stop showing faith in the Golden Child, Anasta. He did nothing again and it's time to make wholesale changes for game 3.
Also, Graham Murray has to go, he is hopeless. Starting Mason in the front row and making him tired was pathetic. Why pick two props when you're going to start a second rower instead. Useless.
We can all complain about the pass that robbed us, but we had plenty of opportunities to score in the last 10 mins. Maybe we can get Joey to come back and play in a neck brace......:idea3:

What like coming out for the second half wayno :p just kidding think the nerves got the better of them at the start but showed some promise for the future just hope the selectors stick with them and give them a go who cares if they lose this year theyll be better for it next year bout time they got rid of the driftwood in their team was a great game marred by some very average ref calls for both teams bring on game 2

Its about 2000-3000 in Australia. Millions world wide.
Re the swine flu i think they're just concerned with what it could do - particuarly if someone was infected with the swin flu and your regular seasonal flu - they're scared of a mega mutation. Plus, it has killed a few people overseas who were previously health adults (normal flu generally kills young children, the elderly and already sick).
I dont think they can do much to contain it - bit late for that

Scoreline flatters the Blues. Outplayed once again.
Absolutely, although that's the only thing that concerned me when NSW got back to that scoreline, when Queensland were the best team on the paddock for 90% of the game. Refs crook decisions seemed to go both ways. Considering the conditions, there was still some great attacking football from both sides. I couldn't believe some sections of the media today were calling for David Taylor to be cut from the Queensland team for game two. Don't change a winning team, other than Cameron Smith, if he is fit.

I notice that since winning 4 series Ross Livermore has changed his tact - 'Origin is dead if NSW win a 4th series' he said prior to the 2006 series - guess it only goes one way. Turned off the match after NSW scored their 2nd try, ref's were in need of glasses, don't think i'll be watching the rest of the series but must say Qld were a must slicker outfit and showed themselves to have everything needed to win a 5th series

Hayne is a better fullback than winger. He played wing for 3 seasons but he is playng on the wrong side to accomodate Brett Morris and his combo with Matt Cooper.
Ok, thanks to Fatty, he has located the SOO thread.
NSW are in a world of hurt and I dont really care..... QLD went through a world of hurt in the mid to late 1990's with NSWs domination.
But NSW's selection policies over the years has really stumped a lot of people. They have selected people and dumped them and it seems like the team is a revolving door.
They tried Peter Wallace for 4 games and then boned him. They recalled an old and discarded veteran and boned him (Brett Kimmorley).
Even though Mitchell Pearce is not ready they have used him and as Gus has said, they will need to persist with him.
The most bizzare was with Kurt Gidney recently, captain on the bench!!
NSW lacks direction from the top. They couldnt manage the racism issue.
Now they want to stop Folau from playing SOO 3. They should look after their own backyard. I think Folau will be prevented from Game 3 :(
Splatcat03
18-06-2010, 03:53 PM
NSW desreved to be beaten in the manner they were in Game 2. Only one team showed up to play football, the other team turned up to play dirty. I don't think I have ever seen a game where one team attacked the heads of the other team so blatantly. Every tackle there was a NSW player with either a hand or a forearm attacking the QLD players head. I hope NSW get flogged in the 3rd game, so not only do they lose 3-0, but they receive a drubbing to rub salt into the wound.

Gus Gould is now making noises about being available to coach NSW.
Well I suppose it is putting his money where his mouth is - he has made a lot of criticisms of how NSW have approached the Origin series (and they make a lot of sense). Now, rather than being a TV critic, he may make himself available to coach.
porsche91722
19-06-2010, 04:07 PM
Unfortunately it's going to take more than Gus's coaching skills to get this current crop of NSW players up for next years series. I don't think that Bellamy will get the chop or leave before game 3 this year. I heard Gould interviewed again this afternoon, and he is now saying that he won't get involved with coaching NSW until there are changes in the running of the game, at ARL/NSWRL/NRL level. There is no doubt that some things need to be fixed, but he is an arrogant pri.., who seems to think that his way is the only way. Damn shame, I would love to see him coach NSW in Origin 3 this year, so Queensland could kick their sorry arses, and make it a clean sweep.

Happy Ending To Abuse Case
Federal Court Ruling
A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the New South Wales State of Origin Team, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

There seemed to be an awful lot of delaying tactics in the tackles, from both sides during the game, which the referee did not police very well, which was a bit odd, considering that in the NRL, quick plays are the rule, rather than the exception. NSW certainly played better than in games 1 and 2, but the mighty Maroons did the job, and got the clean sweep they deserved. It was good to see that there was no mug lair carrying on from Qld, that NSW were guilty of, when they had their 3 series wins and that big result over Qld, years ago. From memory, Joey Johns was NSW captain at the time which would explain a lot.

Well its that time of year again,NSW have anouced there side.
Brett Stewart FB20072A great support player, who has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. He is also a very solid defender at the back.
Jarryd Hayne See Player BioW120074Has the potential to be a match-winner, no matter where on the field he is playing.
Michael Jennings See Player BioCTR120091Explosive pace and footwork will keep Queensland defenders on their toes.
Josh Morris (http://www.nrl.com/RepGames/Origin/Teams/Official Teams/tabid/11134/Default.aspx#) See Player BioCTR21Has returned to his best, solid in defence, but his strength is running with the ball.
Akuila Uate See Player BioW220111One of the strongest ball runners in the game. He will get into dummy-half often and NSW will rely on Uate to get their sets off to a good start.
Todd Carney See Player Bio5/80It’s been a long time coming for Carney, who has returned to his best this year. He will look to drift across field with pace and either hit a forward on the inside, or go himself around flat-footed defenders. Has a great step and handy kicking game.
Mitchell Pearce See Player BioHB20081Showed signs in last year’s series that he could be the halfback to lead NSW to their first series victory since 2005. His combination with Todd Carney will be crucial for the Blues.
Paul Gallen See Player BioFRF20063NSW’s captain courageous will not stop running or tackling. Has great power and will look to spin in tackles to offload and create second phase play.
Robbie Farah See Player BioHOK20090Will be looking to silence the critics, Farah is an attacking player with plenty of creativity and a great kicking game.
James Tamou See Player BioFRF0A massive forward who will be looking to do one thing, run hard and straight.
Ben Creagh See Player Bio2RF20092Will attack an edge all day for the Blues and will be looking to target the Maroons smaller men at every opportunity.
Greg Bird See Player Bio2RF20073Uncompromising forward, once labelled a ‘bash-brother’ with Paul Gallen. Will look to hit hard and often in defence, his role is that of an intimidator.
Glenn Stewart See Player BioLCK20091One of the most gifted forwards in the NRL. Glenn has an all-round game that could trouble Queensland, great hands, good passing game and a strong ball-runner.
Jamie Buhrer See Player BioINT0Surprise selection in the NSW team, a utility player with huge potential, great ball skills and can play dummy-half if needed.
Luke Lewis See Player BioINT20043Seasoned professional who can cover numerous positions on the field. Defensively solid.
Trent Merrin See Player BioINT20111Has had a taste of Origin now and will be better for the run. His job will be to hit the ball-up and get quick play the balls.
Tony Williams See Player BioINT0
Thoughts on side, few I didnt expect but I just hope NSW can get up sick of Qlders rubbing it in,havnt got a come back

Hampstead and Cecchin were terrible last night. Hampstead making "that" decision, and Cecchin clearly trying to make his mark on the game in his first game.

Yet again, the whinging and moaning from south of the border, when they get beaten. I don't think Queensland even played at their best, Billy had a pretty average game, Thurston ditto. It was a real forwards battle, with the guys up front paving the way. All in all, I didn't think it was a great game as a spectacle. Brent Tate would have been my choice as man of the match.

A team that doesn't play at their best is usually a result of the opposition not allowing them to and i think that that was the case last night. Hopefully NSW can win game 2 so that everything is on the line for game 3 and what a spectacle that would be.

Speaking of germs, pity Jennings didn't run as fast towards the try line as he did to the fight.

was referring to attacking, fatty, with MGH66 saying Jennings didn't run as fast. He was on left wing, where quite a few line breaks were achieved, by him

Left, right, they only scored off spilt kicks, thought it was interesting that NSW were making 50-60 metres per set compared to QLD's 35-45 yet thet had no "killer" last plays.
