Probably better to get a ticket than 6 lines in the obituaries!
Hey Admin,
It looks great.
Now I might be a bit picky but do you "westies" really have chromed wheel rims on your cop cars? And the rear wheel seems to protrude too far from the wheel arch.
I realise that this is a prototype so maybe the wheels have been borrowed from somewhere just for the proto.
The boot lit fit seems a bit off, like it has been opened and not fully closed.
Any other pics from different angles?
And whilst in the prototypes......the F... Coupes.....seem to sit too high. Is it just the angle of the pics?

My opinion the car looks very ordinary, as I am used to seeing SS commodores used here in Melbourne. Make a VIC one please as they look heaps better.

A VicPol Pursuit car is almost identical to the WA pursuit car...we have taken all the pictures of both VX and AU, so can easily compare.
We have also done the SMART car (and another) and they are different and bright, but are not the regular Police car.
We are making them as well, so buy whatever you think looks good.
Is the Victorian SMART cop car the bright, fluresent one with the maron/urine colour.I'd like that in all scales.
Why not the NT pursuit F....s
They come in the dark blue colour with all the lights and transfers

It'll never happen, but it'd be funny to see the Strathclyde (Scotland) Police Jaguar XJ220 (dark blue, orange fluoro stripe, lights on roof!), or the M1 patrol Ford RS200 (anyone remember them? Only 200 made...) or Sierra RS Cosworth (both white, orange stripe). I almost wouldn't have minded being stopped by one of them! There's a famous photo of Tony Pond being stopped on the M1 motorway in his works MG Metro 6R4 for driving up the shoulder between stages on the RAC Rally, and the cop was driving a Cosworth! You could almost recreate the moment with a diorama, once AutoArt get the Group B cars built in 1:18......

I've been waiting over 12 months for the release of the WA VT Cop Car! Finally it's here!!! Now I'm hoping to see other state variants, I agree the Vic Cop car is my favorite out of the lot though.
I'm guessing the word Police on the bonnet will be a little more transparent on the final product?
Those californian cop cars look a bit plane and the light bar is so small, but nice none the less.
Bring it on!

They are intentionally plain with low profile lightbars. All the better to sneak up behind an offender. In California, most CHP cars aren't equipped with radar unless a county jurisdiction buys them for the CHP, the state won't buy them. They pace a speeding offender for one mile(at a discrete distance). But they are very effective, non the less. They've caught me!:(

Thanks Biante, great car. I look forward to buying it and the other ones that you produce. I can say that it is the most accurate police model I have seen, and its only the prototype!.
I know some of the rev heads here don't want the police cars but thats too bad. You have to give credit to this company. I am yet to see them produce a dud.
I will spread the word to my collegues and other police collectors in the States.:)

Has Admin thought about producing, after the VT police car(s), a NSW police WRX? Just looking at the 'Models Just Arrived' section, and seeing the AutoArt production [A78651]:
http://www.biante.com.au/merchandise.cfm?mode=view&MerchandiseID=10950
Obviously the VT is the more important to be modelled, no doubt about that. But there could be scope for Police car collectors as well as WRX enthusiasts to have an Australian WRX police car in their collections...
....particularly if they've been caught by one....

No WRXs Andrew
Admin announced in another thread that ,NSW Police would not approve the vehicle being modelled.
It was a public disaster for them, the Speedos were inacurrate and all fines issued were refunded.
Im hoping once they have the Charger License ,they use the mould for K14 ,K16 Highway Patrols.Tough looking CL 770 with 360 cube .

Andrew,
don't lose hope, we also have the WRX's in Victoria (I know they once game me a speeding ticket) & they didn't refund any fines. Must have been a NSW thing !!!
Upon asking before about this (a Vic WRX), there has been no responce which until such time, may leave us that little glimmer of hope that we might sometime get an Australian WRX.
cheers.
ps before admin has a go at me about my comments of not answering the above mentioned question, I want to make it perfectally clear, that I am not having a go at them.

Nick,
Strathclyde Police were a bit notorious for using 'strange' cars.
Funniest thing of the lot they had was during the joyrider fad of a few years ago. They had a Cosworth Escort to run the joyrider down, and chasing the Cosworth they had a GSI3000 24valve Carlton ESTATE car (no, never knew Vauxhall made one either) that was a dog car. The Cosworth ran the joyrider down, then when he crashed and jumped and ran the GSI would scream up, they would pop the electric rear windows and the two dogs took off like Exocet missiles after the bad guys.
They use M5 BMWs now.
All the best

14-12-2002, 10:24 PM
That XJ220 was only a publicity car, but was an interesting exercise! Here in Oxfordshire they used to run a souped-up unmarked 2.8i Capri that was notorious for driving very close behind at night. When the driver exceeded the limit to put some distance between himself and this Capri - hey presto! A ticket. Since then they've run all sorts, including GSi Senators and Volvo 850Rs and have just changed the livery of the entire fleet. Gone are the orange stripes, replaced with blue and yellow chequerboard pattern. I'm sure they still play "motor snooker" though (book a red car, then a black etc).......
Nick Short
14-12-2002, 10:25 PM
....and it's a shame they didn't use real Exocets against those joyriders.....

Anyone want to place bets on whether some US law enforcement agencies pick up on the Holden Monaro / Pontiac GTO as a viable and affordable Police pursuit car ?
I noticed in HSV's Excelerate magazine that the Victorian Police have accepted the twelve month loan of a specially equipped bright yellow HSV GTO, complete with markings and light bar.
I'd be *****ing if I was the cop sitting in the passenger seat.

They have 1:43 scale AU, VT and WRX police models for Vic, NSW and other states. They also have an NZ and FedPol VT, and of course ambulances.
The NT dark blue AU and VT are good looking cars.
Enjoy.

Graeme,
did you see any of the press the police did when they got the HSV ???
I read in a local paper about the Coupe' that it was only for running erins about the CBD, because HSV/Vic Police new that if it got bent that they would get a lot of negative press, as it was such a high powered car (for the police anyway).
Could you also imagine the responce the Police would get if they tried to chase something (with the GTO Coupe) & it got away ???
The press they got last week was bad enought, when the marked & unmarked SS Commodores colided in Blackburn when chasing a stolen Volvo & subsequently it got away !!!!!
Personally, I don't know what is worse. Steeling a Volvo, or not being able to catch one !!!!!!
cheers.

brchi,
The last quick Volvo I recall was that driven by Jim Richards at Bathurst in 1998.
Does anyone remember the Supertourers, or for that matter the racing Volvo 850 wagons of 1994/95 ?
Seems like a generation ago now !!!
You're right though; your story sounds like a major Police embarrassment.

The VOLVO you mentioned was before Gentleman Jim ,driven by
Mr. Peter Brock and is modelled by Minichamps in 1/43 #430 961705 Volvo 850 Australian TCC 1996 Brock. A very nice and often overlooked model in the Brock collection.:)
One of the earlier estate cars was run by Jan Lammers , a former F1 driver, which caused an uproar when team Volvo presented these ones for the series. I think that even these were also modelled by Minichamps in 1/43. I have not seen one in the flesh.
but would like one ,like me POZ cola F355

hey FF,
if you ever find that POZ Cola 355, you'd better get 2 as I've never seen it in the flesh either. I think from memory that it was a 1:43 scale that was made in very small quanties (500 I think).

The Minichamps early Volvo racing 850's in 1:43 scale are :
# 430 941714 - 1994 BTCC 850 Estate - #14 Jan Lammers.
# 430 941715 - 1994 BTCC 850 Estate - #15 Rickard Rydell.
I've noticed that Model Cars of the World have the 1995/96 850 BTCC sedans for sale at $70.00 each.
You might also recall that Tony Scott ran one of the hand-me-down 850 Estates in our Australian Supertouring series.
As to the HSV GTO loaned to Victorian Police, it has been dubbed the 'Melbourne Safety Car', to be operated around the Melbourne CBD in the hands of the Melbourne Traffic Management Unit. The apparent intention is to promote road safety and to strenghthen community ties. It's public debut was at the AFL Grand Final, and it will no doubt feature at other promotional events.

I've seen this vehicle parked there on numerous occasions, sometimes illegally.......

Down our way there has been an unknown parking officer who has been writing parking tickets for speed camera's that have been illgally parked - fair game I reckon!!!!
Needless to say the camera people are not happy, but as they keep telling us 'you do the crime, then serve the time!!!!'

In reply to the hsv GTO in melbourne, back in the late 80s & early 90s the bathurst highway patrol had on loan a walkinshaw group a & a vk group a for use in the weeks surrounding the 1000.
its a scarey site seeing a walky glide up behind you with flashing blue lights.
unmarked hsv & hdt cars have been used for years now so next one pulling up next to you & wants a go think twice!

Like biante3413's sightings in California, here in Ohio, all the Highway Patrol cars have low-profile lights. The REAL kicker is that they can flash out the back while NOT flashing out the front, giving the drivers behind and idea of what's up, but not the guy they're chasing. Kinda makes my heart jump when one of 'em shoots past.
I was perusing the WRX and Holden SS cop car shots on that one link and I have a question. None of the cars seemed to distintly mention the state or area where they are from. On our cars, its usually somewhere on the side of the car. Did I just miss it?
Unmarked cars are not allowed in Ohio. That's fine with me... the low-profile bars are stealthy enough.
We only have boring Crown Victorias and Caprices.

Another idea for a cop car.
How about a run of the XE Group C model, painted yellow,
with the big blue "POLICE" signs on them.
Admittedly the old XE chasers never had the Group C spoilers and stuff, but they were 351 4 speeds'.........
Would look great as a model I reckon!!

We don't have "local" police, we have the a police department for each state/territory and the federal police.
The cars would have only the relevant state emblem on them to identify location.

as with what brchi17 said
"Down our way there has been an unknown parking officer who has been writing parking tickets for speed camera's that have been illgally parked - fair game I reckon!!!! "
the rangers were goin round some suburbs of perth and giving the speed camera guys (not cops) tickets for illegally parking. and they could do it legally so the speed camera guys couldnt do a thing about it. it was good cos it ment no cameras on the freeway or in my area (one of the places fining the camera guys) but it was amazing how quickly the law was changed to allow them to park wherever they needed to. so now theres cameras out there again :(

The NSW XE's were Falcon GL in configuration with standard rims & interior. They had the 4sp 351, and the newly released Watts Linkage susp.
They also had the ESP integrated driving lights with the headlights, (different bonnet) and charcoal coloured front bumper assemply with extended rubber strip around its base.
NSW identification at the time included HWP decals front & rear (white lettering on mid-blue background), large badge on door and warning device roof bar (hee-haw sirens, revolving blue light, spotlight & black illuminated "police" sign in the middle).
A biante model of one of these would be great. Even using the XC coupe body with 12 slotters and above ID would look superb.
