Has anyone got one of these things ?
For those who do not know what I am talking about have a look at http://www.roadangel.com.au
I was wondering how these differ from radar detectors (which arn't allow in Vic) & if I got one how long I would be allowed to use it until the're outlawed.
Perhaps some of our 'learnarded' friends would like to comment on this one.
cheers.
See the price. Bugger That.
And you need to pay $95 a year as an ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION.
Do as I did.
I got 4 speeding fines & then learnt that it is better to slow down & get there the 1 or 2 minutes later.
As my number plate says. SPDKLZ. Speed Kills.

brchi17,
I remember seeing this on A CUREENT AFFAIR, a couple of weeks back. I dont think they are illegal at this stage because they are only
a Tracking Device that works of the GPS.
They can only detect speed cameras and not radars.
Yes they are Pricey.

P.S. If you look up ninemsn web site with the
link to ACA you might find the story on
their link on past segments. worth a try.

Losing your licence twice also helps you to stick to the speed limit!!!! I'm too paranoid about getting busted again to drive fast.

What I can't understand though is Council's enforcing 50km/h and in some cases 40km/h speed limits. I know pedestrian safetey is the main issue but as some of you guy's know, trying to drive at those speeds in a V8 feels like you're going backwards. The other thing also the Highway Patrol are usually lurking around these area's as well.
Might as well hand in your licence volutarily.

My school recently had 40kp/h sool zone signs put up on the old pacific highway because us students in the afternoon get across it to get to the train station quicker.
I allways make sure my dad goes 60kp/h through there because the speed limit should really be enforced after 3:05.
If he drives through there at 3:05 he sticks to the limit.

I'm with you Glen,
after getting a photo for 106kph (yes I was speeding & doing the wrong thing, don't get me wrong!!) in a 100kph zone (the camera was hidden on a tripod in dense bush inbetween 4 lanes of traffic, with the officer sitting on a deck chair reading the paper - I saw it throught my drivers window, but it was too late to do anything, except pay for having my speedo checked by camera!), I think items like the above mentined, are fair game for us road users.
With all of the deceptive ways that they (government/police) go about their revinue raising in the name of 'road safety' it makes me sick.
What about improving our roads, raising the speed limits on open roads (how hight i'm not sure, but with today technology in modern cars 120kph is not out of the question), improving driver education & putting back into the roads, rather than using them for an excuse for raising money for the sake of a few kms (I know it can make a difference in a crash).
When the ADR's state that a cars speedo only has to be within 10% of the actual speed being travelled (ie a speedo showing 100kph but the vehicle actually doing 109kph is within the ADR's) it is purely for the sake of $$$'s with camera being set to shoot vehicles at 103kph.
Food for thought,
cheers.
I hate it that in most cars the spedo isn't correct.
Maybe laws should be put in to make sure all spedo's show the REAL speed your doing

Exactly what I was saying SWRT.
Either the states have to change the ADR's to make our speedo more accurate, or they have to give us some grace with regards to our cars inaccurate speedo's. Not to mention the effect fitting non standard wheels & under/over infleated tyres do to the speedo's accuracy.
It's time to look at the governments whole approach to road safety, as the current authoritarian version isn't working. Maybe trying a more positive approach where people are incouraged to do the right thing, rather than given a the 'rap over the knuckles' for doing the wrong thing, which simply has outlasted its' affective use.
cheers.
They're not really for speed cameras as been mentioned, more so, they let drivers know when they are about to approach an accident "blackspot".
