I've just started watching F1 for the second half of last season and thought it would be nice to get a couple of models just for something different. I got the webber jag and I have started following kimi with interest. I fancied his number 1 car this year but was shocked to discover minichamps dont do the red cars. Do hotwheels have exclusive rights to them? If they do thats a shame because from what I've read they are pretty poor quality.

Yep hot wheels have exclusive to the current day Ferrari F1 cars & have so for quite a few year, their quality is poor for the price, but over the years they've slowly improved their quality, even so I'd still call it below average.

However if it's not the modern day stuff you're looking to collect, there are some wonderful stuff out there from exoto & in time CMC whom build some of the best diecast models are also going to be making some old Ferrari F1 cars

The coldwheels stuff is a hellf a lot better than it used to be, but still has some way to go.
There are a heap of models they make from specific gp's that I would advise you go for over the standard season cars.

Ok thanks for the advice, maybe a GP release is the way to go. I had a look at the Aust GP hat trick release but have also been looking at some overseas items one specifically that had been modified to Chinese GP spec and I found that it looked much better with Marlboro decals on it instead of a mass of blank red panels. I can't do the conversion myself as I'd without a doubt stuff it up so it looks like I will have to buy one already done from an overseas seller on ebay.

Just be careful when buying converted models that they are actually correctly liveried, there are a lot of tobacco liveried cars out there which are nothing like they raced. So in other words, do your homework - a photo website like Suttons (http://www.sutton-images.com/) is a good place to check if you don't already have photo's ;)

Also if you are prepared to have a go at putting on decals you can save yourself a fortune as usually decal sheets are around $10/car, so you've got to wreck a few sets of decals to get close to what some people charge ;)

Unfortunately there is no way known to man that I will ever be able to apply decals to a model without stuffing it up big time, its just one of those things I'm really really bad at. I just purchased one of the 1:16 top fuel dragsters and after I organised everything freaked out because I didn't check whether they were already constructed or if they were a kit I had to put together. If I had to put it together it would have stayed in its box! You don't realise how much I wish I could buy these tobacco liveried models from here. This is the first tobacco model I'm after that will be otherwise blank. At least the rossi bike had the Goooo!!! logo on it Same thing is gonna happen when Minichamps release the Stoner bike. I'm gonna have one very plain looking model.

I'm just after Kimi Raikkonen's 2007 Ferrari with the decals on it.
