I got this model a few months ago when it first became avaliable on the Biante website. Its' a great looking model & well worth the money. Its' presentation is typical of the high standard that we have come to expect from AutoArt.
I bought the model because my dad has always spoke of the great car chase through San Fan Cisco (sorry about the spelling) & it being the first real car chase on the big screen.
After seeing the movie a few years ago (the best bit is about 1hr & 10mins in where the chase starts - don't know about the rest of the film as I am yet to watch it!!!) I now know why it was so good - doesn't compare to some of todays films, but it was the first real car chase.
Back to the model,
Look you won't regret getting this one if you have the funds avaliable for it. My dad has show a few of his mates this car & they just love it - I don't let the car out of my sight thought!!!
A great car for any Ford, Mustang or movie fan, well worth the money.
cheers.

brchi17,
No you won't be disappointed with this AA effort. As a matter of fact this model is better than most AA products. The red version of the Mustang GT Hatchback was release as a part of "Millenium" line up. This confirms that this particular mold is of highest quality. Overall, the best Mustang model model in 1:18 is ERTL's Precision 100 1964.5 Convertible with AA's being a close second.
There is also "regular" ERTL's effort of McQueen's Mustang. Even at half the price of AA model the ERTL.
Here are some very detailed pics of McQueen's Gt390:

The model should have come out with the dent that Steve McQueen kicked into it. He thought it would suit the character he played as a cop with not much time on his hands to get things fixed, so he kicked a couple of dents into it!!!

berkut76,
You've right I'm not disapointed about this model as it a fantastic looking car.
I've seen the ERTL one in a few shops, but I haven't taken much time looking at it beacuase the one I have is the AutoArt verson.
To FordBoy,
by all means check out the ERTL one (it a lot cheeper than the AutoArt - about 1/2 the price), but you won't be disapointed with the dearer AutoArt either.
cheers.

admin.....i see on the autoart site they have available the steve mcqueen porsche from the 1971 movie LEMANS.
http://www.autoartmodels.com/pages/oldpage/racing. htm
will this model be avaialable here soon?
Le Mans (1971)
A thrilling look at the famed 24-hour French endurance race, starring Steve McQueen as an American driver out to beat a rival while romancing the widow of another driver. Great racing sequences (McQueen did his own driving); Elga Andersen, Siegfried Rauch co-star. 112 min.
peter
sorry.. i have started a new thread on this topic
Anyone know where I can get the 68 bullit mustang? apart from ebay?? Ive seen it for 165 at one store but that seems pricey.
Also what about the red one?
Which do you thinks better? the ertl one or the autoart one?

I think from memory that Biante hae some more comming & they are under in transit ???
I did a search on Mustang about 2 weeks ago & then it was listed as in transit. Otherwise give gamesworld a try, as much as I don't like them (very average service & prices!!!) it could be your easiest bet. Otherwise try www.gatewaymodels.com.au in Qld as they stock quite a lot of Biante product.
Hopes this helps in your search,
cheers.
ps it is a fantastic model, which is a one of the many features of my personal collection.:)
did a bit of searching, found them at www.shiremodels.com.au , red and green ones are sold out here, sold out at most places. Gateway doesn't have the red or green.
edit: oops, they just are sold out of the green one here, red and gold are still available.

Odin, I have both of them, and the AUTOart one is by far the better model. Mine is minus the straps, but am willing to sell at a fair price.

Try www.raceplace.com.au in Seaford (VIc)
They are a good shop, with reasonably priced models.
Good luck.

Um you can get the red and gold ones for 45$ cheaper here(biantes shop) than on that site. Its definately not that cheap.
also the green one there is overpriced.
but thanks for the tip anyway, good to shop around.

Sorry about that, when I've been in his shop the prices have been quite good. Maybee they have one price for the shop & one for the internet sales ????
cheers.
I ended up getting the red and gold ones here. Cant really beat 110 for each.
Any models of the Shelby GT500 Mustang from Gone in 60 second that Nicholas Cage drove???
The closest thing to elanor I have found is at http://www.yatmingeshop.com/ go to road signature section, 1:18 scale, 3rd page theres a 68 Shelby GT 500KR. Looks a lot like elanor apart from no bodykit. Perhaps something for a model modifier here? . Sadly they dont ship to Australia at the moment.
As the price is 15.60 USD. maybe someone could organise something??? hint hint
Does Biante or AutoArt have anything in the works in regards to elanor?

I'm surprised Ertl haven't made this car yet. They've made all sorts of movie related muscle cars already, and to not have the best looking movie car ever made is bizarre. Maybe it's in the pipeline.

The car in the movie looks to me as if it is a 67 mock up. The 68 GT-500 KR had a different front on it compared to the 67, including different driving lamps. The 68 had the small rectangle type driving lights and the 67 had the larger round driving light. Some at the end of the grill next to the headlights and some in the centre of the grill.
Personally I am not a fan of the Shelby after 67, I think think the 65 GT-350R is the car. That is if you can call anything after a 67 a true Shelby Mustang anyways.

Hi Odin
I bought one of these models from Traffic Collectables in Melbourne last week and I paid $125 for it. $165 is a rip-off! Their number is 03-95212522 - lady called Ursula is the person that posted mine to me.

As I've said before, it's a great looking model & for many reasons is one worth getting.
cheers. :D
Note these things sold out in like a day or two last time. Quick sellers.

I know the thread is supposed to be about the Steve McQueen Mustang, (I have the Auto Art version & it is about 96% spot on so well worth the money), but rather than start a completely new thread.... I think I did see mention of somebody producing an Elanor model. Can't remember who, when or in what scale. The Yatming car is a 1968 Shelby GT500KR from memory. About all it really has in common with the movie car, is the base color. Elanor as in the movie was originally a 1967 Shelby but bastardised somewhat. The original grille, driving lights and bumper bar have been removed. A front lower valance from a 1965 GT350R has been bonded on and the driving lights reinstalled down in the big cutout section which is where the oil cooler was on the 350R. Also from memory the bonnet has been altered from Shelby specs too, along with a couple of other minor changes. Not that I have a problem with it...It actually looks rather meaner than a standard 67 Shelby, just that in order to be accurate a Specific Model in 1/18 or whatever would have to be tooled up as it's not really close to either a 67 or a 68 Shelby in stock factory form...

I've heard that Autoart's McQueen licence has elapsed regarding the 1:18 Bullitt Mustang and they don't intend renewing it. Instead, they will produce the dark green car in the same likeness, but minus the specific number plates and in plain Autoart packaging. The only upside is that it should carry a cheaper retail price tag.

If I was buying one I would want the Bullitt Mustang as it's a great reminder of an awesome car chase. So lucky to have this on DVD now as my VHS copy is pristine, except for the car chase that just wont track!
Funny if you watch the movie you see the same white Pontiac about four times during the chase! :D

In my VHS version of Bullitt, the editing isn't too sharp in the chase scene as I'm sure there's a piece where the Charger comes unstuck and it comes perilously close to the camera - I'm sure it crashes into something just as the film frame is cut to the next segment of the chase.

I remember about half way through the Charger hits a parked car coming around a corner that the camera was mounted on. This might be what you mean.

Does the Charger model come with 5 hub caps as the one in the movie did? Count them in the chase sequence and 5 come flying off. Still on of the best chases around, tho' I think the guys in the suits may have been sliding around a bit more in real life on those vynil seats.:D

And I'll bet those lap belts they do up before the start of the chase would fill them with confidence too!

Yeah gotta love the chase scene it took a while to track a dvd down but did get it a while back unsure where i got it from. But seems the hunt is on for an AUTOart bullitt mustang in 1:18th.
May as well ask has anyone got or know of anyone that was lucky enough to get minichamps version in 1:43rd of the bullitt. Asked around and most places say no only has been done in 1:18th dunno if its true or not as I havent seen the 43rd version of it myself.

This looks pretty damn close.
Both are 68 model fastbacks, with the same style wheels. I am not sure if the Bullitt car was in Highland Green or the Dark Green.

Should be out soon as well.
