An Auscar driver (the name will come to me) from Ferntree Gully Realised the gap in Australia of Australian models. Investigated producing model kits, but due to costs had the basic plastic model you showed manufactured. They came in several colours including blue, red, black, white etc. A mate at the time assembled them in his lounge room (and naturally I have one). They were sold through K-Mart. This all occured in the late 80's.

Hope this helps out.

ive got a white version with its original box which i purchased off another biante user whos in qld.

the 'box' isnt much to look at. its sort of a L shaped tray which the car sits in.

the outside of the box is in yellow while the inside is in white. it has the markings:

AUSTRALIA'S OWN
HOLDEN COMMODORE
PROUDLY PRESENTED BY AFCAR
1/18 SCALE
(12-02) 632 570 i think this must be the product code.
FOR AGES 3 AND UP - that rules me out cuz my wife reckons im still a baby.....

it also has the Australian Made symbol together with:

C'MON AUSSIE - its made HERE in Australia

i hope this info helps......

I have 4 of these..Blue, White, Red and Black.
All have been bought at Rotary Club swapmeets.
In Perth they are at Melville, Belmont, Nedlands and Wanneroo every Sunday. Probably others as well.
Need to get there at about 6am.
$10 to $15 depending on if boxed or not.

I did purchased 3 of them about 12 years ago from Kmart for my son.

Up till now forgot they even existed.

Is this the reason there is never anything like this at the local swapmarts !!!
The official opening time for buyers is 8 am!!
I've got to get up at 5.45 to beat the opposition!!:D

Admin,

With you being in the business I thought your cabinets would be full of just one off's, pre-production's, very low run models etc, all the rarefied stuff.

I was surprised and pleased to see you also have the common discount store plastic in your collection. A true collector!

I love this stuff, designed and bought for kids to play with (as MrHoldens did) then left in the sandpit or where ever to be forgotten. These types of models (I use the term loosely) are not appreciated by many collectors, this plus the fact they made heaps of them usually results in low prices. This is great for me because I can buy them whenever I find them.

Admin, I wonder if you would like to tell us a little about your own model collection, a brief description if you like, themes, makes, whatever. Your earlier post has certainly left me wondering.
