Guys (and ladies) I desperately want a 1990 Mobil Sierra in my garage/cabinet. Obvioulsly there are some bloody smart and clever people here (David5 isn't one of them). Could someone build me one if I provided a 1989 donor? I guess the DJR wheels are the kicker.

I hope you ment the 1988 as a doner not the 1989. the 1989 dick car is worth a fortune. Or did you meen using a Mobil one and changing years

I meant using the 1989 Mobil car as a donor...still need DJR wheels though. Is there a cheap 1990 djr car?

they only made a Dick Sierra for 1988 and 1989. you will probably never get the wheels of one. see if a modern Supercar wheel will fit. I had a Quick look on the net but pics were blury. there couldn't be much difference beetween years. Sure some one will sort you out. I know a bloke, but It would take a year to get it back. I know from experiance

Those wheels were unique to those two cars at that time & dont resemble anything else.Oops the Lintott Valvoline car may have had them too. Told you I wasnt perfect.

Pretty sure someone did a code 3 Sierra using the wheels of a 3 series BMW from Burago.

Ok, let me re-phrase this. Can I get DJR 7 spoke wheels?

I'd sooner wait, either that or buy a VERY expensive DJR car and wreck it. Boy would that cause outrage from the #17 club.

I would do the same thing. I would love the 90 car in my collection.

Righto, how about we buy a DJR Sierra together and share the wheels? We'd have to display our cars on one side though. Seriously, could anyone make the DJR wheels to a reasonable standard in limited volumes (8 at this stage)? I'm sure there are some 1989 Sierras around to use as donors

OK I can, it will represent the car as it ran at Phillip Island. ;)

Now that you have bitten, Mark you need to do research. For most of the season this is how the car appeared. A hell of lot easier to convert.

Why not just wait?? According to some retailer websites, Biante will be releasing
the 1990 Sierra.....despite it being said, on release of the 89 version, that it would
be the only Brock Ford Sierra in the collection!!!

What time during the season did Sidchrome come on board in 1990 ?

The Bridgestone logo moved to the front guards with the Sidchrome signage taking the rear flanks

well that's good news because I LOVE this car. It's a shame it's languishing in the Pommy weather (no offense Tony and Nick).

Here it is re-convereted back to 1989 specs (I know not why) along with DJR (I think this was Rob Grsavetts) in the UK

Someone (ie Peter Champion) needs to buy it and bring it back here to OZ and display it.
Stumbled across this website :http://www.zenio-photographer.com/sport-action.html

Some pretty nice images here.

05 was sold to a Christchurch car dealer who also owns ANZ Sierra and a Texaco Sierra. It was sold for stuff all as PB to defray the duty that was owed on the things when they were imported to Oz...I kick myself to this day for not buying it. All I bought was the driver's seat

Bones

What did it sell for?

To get back to the original quandry......I would tend to suggest that if someone has the year model Sierra with the correct wheels needed, the removal of one to use as a master should enable the required number to be cast in epoxy resin after making silicone molds from the original.....The cast ones MAY need to be done in 2 parts, the outer/centre section & the inner rim, for ease of casting. The trick is to accomplish the project without destroying the original wheel, ie some reserach required prior to tackling that option.

Wheels are not perfect, but this model cost me a lot less at the time than the real deal. I took the 88 ATC winner and made the 89 Bathurst car.

The wheels were from a burago 3 series bimmer.

Also attached i a pic of my other code 3's. GTR was once the blue calsonic, XY 65E GT was a vermillionfire road car and the 64e was once the moffat 61d.

Oran Park was where Sidchrome first appeared, but it was a red with yellow background coloured logo which was on the front guards:

Best pics i have of it:

Bridgestone and Sidchrome swapped places for the enduros.

Those wheels gave the car a whole different look - a meaner look.
Pity he changed the numbers from white on black (89) to the black
on body for the 90 season.

I love Sierra's. I have not yet picked up any of them apart from Johnson's 1989 Bathurst winner but I may have to think about adding the others. This has just inspired me.

You think? IMO the earlier 'wire' wheels look much more aggressive than the later version - maybe it's the colour (bright white), to me they look clean rather than mean...;) :D

Rob
27-07-2008, 05:16 PM
Yes, maybe mean might not be the right word, but I think the 90 version looked heaps better
then the 89 one - minus the ugly black on white numbers. Wasn't a huge fan of the "wire" wheels.
I mean, they all pretty much had them.

S'funny how peoples opinions and tastes differ

As well as the different wheel design, I actually prefer the later style of numbering (black on white), especially on the bonnet (maybe because it ties in with the windscreen banner).

Can't say I was ever a fan of the red/yellow Sidchrome logo, whether it was on the front or rear of the car - to me it looked out of place on a predominantly white car with blue & red highlights wherever it was placed

I am of the opinion that if you have a white car then the numbers look better
being white on black and if you have a coloured car then it looks better being
black numbers on white. But there are exceptions. I mean the JPS BMW's looked
crap with the black on white numbers from Bathurst 1987 and the Jack Daniels
cars last year looked good with white reversed out of the black body.

Most of the time it's an individual thing.

Was there a version with the Sidchrome in blue, or was that on a Commodore ?

With you on that one Mark! Biante already have modelled the wheels, so they just need to paint them white for this car.

The already released Brock FORD Sierra was not as much a sales rocket as any other Brock Model.
One eyed red only collectors did not want a realy beautifull FORD in their collection.
I think that this one will be a little while before it will be "revisited" somehow.
Sidchrome decals?? will they do the job?

I also remember on the '89 Sierra's brochure stated it would be the only Brock Sierra to be made in 1:18.

I would like a '90 car in my Brock collection though

Also bring on the Lada!:D
