Wasn't there talk that the Rod Nash car is the third in the equation? Although, the PWR license would make more sense seeing as it was an 11th hour inclusion this year due to the lack of a buyer!! I can't remember, who now has the second PWR licence "the ivory" or another team?

Supercars are not really my thing, and I'll qualify the following by saying it is a completely unsubstantiated rumour that I was told.....

As has been mentioned previously, Jack Daniels are less than impressed with the results achieved with Perkins, especially compared with what their competitors have got out of DJR. As their three year contract is up at the end of the season, they are seriously reviewing their involvement, and are very unlikely to continue with Perkins. While they are considering leaving V8's altogether, this is subject to a viable alternative to Perkins and what that would cost (they want to spend less).

Thus, Cochrane together with Holden Motorsport are trying to arrange a suitable marriage (Holden want to keep the money on the red side, which JD are comfortable with given Beam's involvement with a Ford team).

Now, here is the interesting, but unsubstantiated, part of the story...
Walkinshaw Performance will supply a single JD VE to be run by Marty Brant of Independent Racecars - who did a great job in 2007 running the Autobarn car on the smell of an oily rag. The licence being the ex-Sydney Star one currently held by Cochrane. And the preferred driver being the Steve Owen, the driver of the aforementioned 2007 Autobarn car.....

Hype ? Rumour ? Fact or Fiction ?

Thats a great story, hope its true. Where would this leave LPs crew ? Maybe he can pick up the Castrol money, seeing their the wrong colour for FPR.

If all this colour BS is true, can you imgine the sour taste this leaves in new/existing sponsors mouths. In the current economic climate can V8SC be affording to alienate anyone ?

If Jack Daniels left Perkins Todd will leave to, the only reason he went to Perkins (not counting been wrongly sacked) was the money they had to help him develop the car.

dunno, dropped off the map after he ran the WPS car in 04. pretty rough, gets WPS in then gets dumped after getting 00 03 cars which weren't developed at all.

all he needs is seat time and he'd be as good as any :)

As we all nw there are heaps of rumours floating around, the Bundy one has been floasting around since last year, they where rumoured to be going to the #9 car with SVG, so hearing it again is no real coincidence, I just hope they do go to a blue team. Coca-Cola was also rumoured to be going to SBR but again it didn't happen. As for the colour debate, rumour has it that the Ford funded cars need to be 75% Blue, so it should make a few things interesting for next year and give guys like Rob a hard time of coming up with a design that all parties will be happy with!

AS for the JDR Stuff, If they do leave LPM I would expect them to be looking further up the grid, while the boys at Independant might be able to do a good job they might not be able to move up the grid. I also fell the JD wants to be associated with a 'name' makes great marketing sense!

There are a few rumours floating around at PCR too, Paul did say he wants to run a second car next season remember!

Yeah that is another one I forgot about, the rumour is Red Bull to sponsor RK at maybe HSVDT, Red Bull is already a personal sponsor of RK so this is more than likely the reason why his name is always associated with the deal, this deal was also floated last year.

no he ran the barcode, now back to the v8's.....

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned Bundy Rum on a SBR, however that's not going to happen. Why? Ford have put an anti-alcohol clause on their factory sponsorship, so not only do their cars have to be predominately blue, but they can't carry alcohol sponsorship, which brings up my next suggestion/question....I wonder if we'll see Volvo/Volvo Trucks reappear with SBR & FPR as the only reason they left DJR was because of what Jim Beem is...

Bundy Rum have stated before they will not sponsor motorsport, this from there website.

"Please note that as a manufacturer of alcohol, we have a social obligation to promote responsible consumption of alcohol. Sponsorship may only be sought for activities or events aimed at assisting audiences over 18 years of age.

Therefore we are unable to assist with fundraisers or sponsorships for SCHOOLS or JUNIOR CLUBS and any events associated with motor sports or jet boating."

Never come across is being prohibited in previous years. It might be apart of the new "2009 factory" deals with FPR and SBR?? I guess manufacturers need to be careful who is aligned with their product. Drink-driving, excessive alcohol and driver behaviour are major community issues. It sort of forces the teams look for funding from other sources too. In years past it's been mainly automotive company's and now days it's alcohol and energy drinks.

As for Bundy, there would need to be a major re-think on policy before they get involved in motorsport - as pointed out be poita.
Having said that, it hasn't stopped teams from trying in the past and I would think into the future.

Am I the only one who noticed that when the Kelly brothers rumour was mentioned on the telecast Matty White seemed eager to talk about it a little more and Neil just changed the subject as quick as he could. It kind of made me think he knew a lot more about it but didn't want to get into trouble, he just carried on as if it had never even been mentioned. Then again I could have been imagining things. W.A Government announced today that the Red Bull air race will miss Perth next year but will be back in the following years.
also mentioned that another big announcement will be made next week, but would not give any information.
when asked if it involved the V8 Supercars they said there had been no discussion in regard to this, other than there will not be a street race and that the new minister said she had not had talks with V8 Supercars Australia.
could be cat and mouse ,could be miss out, could be in regard to the football stadium.

I wonder if this has somthing to do with Uncle Tom........if so he's not making himself very popular, He is a good operator but i reckon he would be a hard man to work for

*Uncle Tom" is not a good operator! He knows the right buttons to push & when to push them otherwise he wouldn't have been able to switch HRT.HSV Team Membership ie engineers, Race Mechanics suspension personnel. I believe if you have a Customer paying the bills they should have some input into the management of the Team

He may be a "smart" operator but just because he aint a Bankrupt, doesn't mean that he still doesn't sail close to the wind with the Rule Books.

Its not just the Kelly's he upset, look around ALL the Holden Cars suppled with TW's parts

I believe that the current Execs at Holden want to keep their distance from Uncle Tom as they can see another Arrows fiasco if they don't keep an eye on TW's operations. Holden own a majority of the HSV set up & as I am led to understand they still have a finger in the pie at HRT so that TW does not gain anymore of it than he already owns.

Speculation that I've heard is that TW bought Elfin so that he could do a lot more of the Engine work on the V8a away from the spotlight which his involvement with the V8s has.

Scuttle but has it that TW started the parity issue again when his Customers started complaining to deflect the criticism, he just had someone else do the asking. Rumor or not, I reckon that where there's smoke there's fire

Watch him bail if (maybe when) the going gets too tough, & given the current Global Fincial Crisis, I believe that times are going to get a lot tougher for all concerned

I think you'll find that the split of ownership in HSV runs along the lines GMH 51% Premoso 49%. Happy to be corrected if thats wrong.

Wasn't the original HSV deal secured by tender?? If Holden had a % ownership of HSV would it make the awarding of the tender illegal?

I noticed Cromley didn't bite on to the Kelly rumour on Ch7 too. But then he generally doesn't discuss "rumours" anyway.

My perception of what was said or implied (and putting two and two together and getting about fifteen........), is that the Kelly brothers are going to establish their own team, and presumably use Mum & Dads licences. Obviously this raises the on-going question of sponsors (Red Bull & JD ??) and more interestingly, where are the cars and equipment coming from ? Would Walkinshaw supply still if they walk away ? Tasman maybe ?

And where does that leave HSVDT ? With Dumbrell and the Autobarn money, and in need of a licence. Will Gary Dumbrell buy the PWR licence if he hasn't already ?

david5
27-10-2008, 11:04 AM
Wouldnt the purchase of HSVDT included the licence ? What else would Dumbrells be buying ? The cars & equipment all come from WP. Dumbrells have the wherewithall to obtain a workshop & transporters. WP would enter a commercial agreement to supply another team if need be. So IMO the only thing worth buying would be the licence. Getting the personnel & data etc would be an added bonus.

Just guessing.

Correct, Premoso (trading as Holden Special Vehicles & Holden By Design) was originally given a 20 year licencing arrangement with Holden to be their performance arm

This has since been renewed with an extra ten years added to the arrangement

There are some Holden staff on the board of directors but Holden doesn't have any shareholdings in Premoso

Leigh
27-10-2008, 12:16 PM
Premoso is owned by Walkinshaw and operates Holdens' performance arm...

This is very different to Walkinshaw owning the performance arm, which is what Brock did.

The difference being is that it is easier for Holdens to sever ties with Walkinshaw than it was with Brock. Of course there would need to be "breach" or "performance" issues for Holdens to take such action.

I'd like to see that number 2 car at the pointy end a bit more though :)

HRT are a team who understand image, and they trust me 100%, and never change anything without approval...that's the way they are, professional and heavy attention to detail.

Many of the other teams modify or slap on sponsers anywhere, not staying true to the original design concept like HRT does...in the end I think it shows on track. Hard to convince the teams this is the case...

Not that big a deal imho, as some might recall that during Johnson's Sierra era they didn't run any Ford logos from 88 thru to late 91/early 92, so it wouldn't be anything new for the champion from the Ford camp not to have the blue oval on their race car ;)

I am pretty sure it's a requirement of the V8 Supercar sporting rules to run the badges.
HSVDT tried in vain to change the Lion badge on Rick's "Buick" for the China round but
were denied. Interestingly HRT ran the Chevy bowtie on Todd's last year in Bahrain.

PCR have had no Ford funding yet still run the badge. Same with TKR.

THE Kelly gang is planning to dominate the V8 Supercars in 2009 and beyond.
Bathurst winners Todd and Rick Kelly will team up in a pair of family-owned Holden Commodores from next season.
Their parents John and Margaret Kelly will invest in the team to reclaim control of their sons' pit garage.
Former V8 Supercars champion Rick will be backed by Red Bull in 2009, while Todd could arrive from Larry Perkins' team with Jack Daniel's as sponsor.
The new-look Kelly crew boasts an imposing V8 Supercars record, with two Bathurst wins, two drivers' titles and two championships from the time it was known as K mart Racing.
The brothers will still race with Commodores supplied by Holden Motorsport, but the team's race base will move away from Clayton in Melbourne and all control will revert to John Kelly and his pitlane crew.
The Kelly change comes at a turbulent time in V8 Supercars racing. Mark Skaife is set to confirm his retirement from race driving tomorrow, while several frontline drivers, including James Courtney, Will Davison and Steven Johnson, are moving teams next season.
It also means the end of the four-car Tom Walkinshaw 'super team' that had combined the drivers and resources of the Holden Racing Team and the Kelly gang's Toll-HSV Racing.
John Kelly was guarded about the new-look team yesterday.
"It's too early to be saying anything yet. We want to wait until everything is finalised," he said.
The Kelly reunion will bring Rick and Todd together fulltime for the first time, although the pair are unlikely to share a car at the Bathurst or Phillip Island endurance races next year because of the split sponsorship plan.
It means Paul Dumbrell will leave the Kelly compound. But he is likely to stay under the Holden Motorsport umbrella, with Walkinshaw looking for a V8 Supercars franchise - at least two are for sale for $1.5 million each - to run a third car alongside HRT.
With Skaife's retirement, Davison will be joining Garth Tander at Holden.
Davison had seemed likely to re-sign with Dick Johnson's revitalised Ford team, but moved quickly to take up the HRT offer once Courtney was confirmed as team leader at Jim Beam Racing.
The domino effect in V8 Supercars means Steven Johnson could easily switch from his father's team to Stone Brothers Racing, as a replacement for Courtney.
His name was also mentioned at the Gold Coast Indy meeting at the weekend as a chance to take the cold Kelly seat with Larry Perkins.
Alex Davison could also return from Porsche racing in Europe to drive a second Falcon for Paul Cruickshank as teammate to Fabian Coulthard.
And Queensland's Carrera Cup winner James Moffat is firming for a V8 Supercar upgrade in the Fujitsu Series in 2009.

I seem to remember when the announcement was made about JD going to be the major sponsor of Perkins Racing, that the 'brand' was not tied to the drivers but to LP himself ????....I guess we will see, I may be wrong or there may indeed have been a rewrite of the LPR/JD contract.

Given the turnaround in performance for the JD squad of late it may cause a re-think.

It will interesting to see what happens with TK i thought it would be a long term relationship like that LP thought would happen with S. Richards as they are all mechanically/engineering minded and are a great fit. I really think Todd needs to give it another year with LP as the results have shown lately the car is quick.

very true Luke, Todds year has been a bit of a roller coaster, just look back over the past two rounds as a classic example. At Bathurst he wasn't even competitive, yet two weeks later at Indy, he's back in the mix...

It seems to me that Todd's biggest problem at Perkins is the lack of a competitive team mate. I'm sure if he was able to have someone he could share with, rather than have to teach to, then I feel he may be doing a little better.

The 3rd SBR car got canned as it was supposed to the rising star licence of Jim Norton wish he is keeping. With Ford cutting dollars every where they couldnt afford to run it with the factory team.

Also agree on your DJR comments, their biggest problem in the past was getting all their power to the ground and you can pin point their return to the front as the very same day they got the triple 8 rear suspension fitted to their car! Britek Media Release

04 November 2008
BRIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP PROSPECTS WITH STONE BROTHERS RACING

In a bold announcement Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has revealed that he will be setting his sights on winning the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series behind the wheel of a Stone Brothers Racing (SBR) prepared Ford Falcon.

Bright’s #25 Fujitsu Racing entry and key staff from his Britek Motorsport operation will relocate to SBRs Queensland based facility, and equally as boldly, create a three-car “Superteam” to take on the likes of the Holden Racing Team, Triple Eight Race Engineering and Ford Performance Racing.

An enthusiastic Bright is convinced the alignment of the two operations will see instant success on track.

“This is the perfect opportunity to return to the pointy end of the field and the timing for this merger has never been better,” said Bright.

“I’ve tried to push the Fujitsu Racing Falcon well into the top ten and have done so on a number of occasions. However, with a new car coming on stream and the changes in fuel technology we simply don’t have the resources, or time, to research and develop what is needed to be competitive.

“Ross and Jimmy Stone have made great strides in these areas and already have a race-winning package.

“I am delighted to be able to return to a team I enjoyed so much success with when I first started my V8 Supercar career. I’m after my first V8 championship starting right now.”

A decision on the second, currently IRWIN Industrial Tools sponsored, Britek entry will not be made until early December, but this car would also benefit from the SBR alignment and all options are currently being considered.

From What enews says, Dumbrell has bought the PWR license and Marshall will run his own team under the other Britek license.

Britek Media Release

A decision on the second, currently IRWIN Industrial Tools sponsored, Britek entry will not be made until early December, but this car would also benefit from the SBR alignment and all options are currently being considered.

Is this Britek/SBR deal a merger? because I would think that IRWIN and SP Tools would be conflicting sponsors?

I may of course be totally wrong....The way I was reading things is that JB will be merging with SBR, along with sponsorship he now has, to basically become a 3 car team....ie the Irwin car will probably, (I assume with current sponsorship), be dropping down to being a Development Series car...???? So would not therefore be at odds with SP sponsorship, however I also believe that the SP sponsorship at SBR on the #9 was a 1 year deal from memory. Once the "Silly Season" gets near completion, undoubtably we will learn the actual truth on all of the moves for 09 !!

The way it is being reported in enews is that the Irwin Tools car will become the 3rd SBR car with Alex Davison in the car. Meaning a 3 car team consisting of Gis, Bright (who will wear #4) and Alex!! This is not being reported as hear say but, as a done deal................but, we are talking about mnews!!;) It also mentions that Marshall is likely to get the spare license from the Bright/SBR deal and run on his own!

Paul Weel Racing (PWR) will close its doors at the end of the year as it has sold its V8 Supercar licence to Walkinshaw Performance (WP).
It is yet to be confirmed which driver will use the ex-PWR licence next year.
While WP currently has the use of the two licences owned by John and Margaret Kelly for its HSV Dealer Team Racing, it is believed that driver Rick Kelly and the two Kelly-owned licences will be on the move in 2009, leaving HSV Dealer Team Racing driver Paul Dumbrell as the most likely to use the newly acquired licence.
PWR gave rookie Andrew Thompson his first full-time main-game drive this year and its closure means the youngster is on the hunt for a drive for 2009.
If there is one thing Thompson is certain of, it is his desire to keep racing in the V8 Supercar Championship.
“I definitely want to be back in the main game next year,” he declared.
And, he says he is close to signing with another team.
“I have been talking to a couple of people in regards to next year, but I am not at the point where we have signed anything,” Thompson explained.
“I’m pretty confident I’ll sign something soon, but right now I’m just in discussions and finalising a few things.
“Hopefully over the next week we can get to the point where we can lock something away and have next year secured so I can go back to concentrating on racing at the last two rounds.”
While Thompson would “ideally” like to drive with a Holden team in 2009, the youngster says driving a Ford is definitely a possibility.
“I wouldn’t mind staying (with Holden) but really, I’ve got to do what’s best for me because it’s getting pretty close,” he said.
“Whether it’s Blue or Red, I’ve got to make the decision based on what’s right for me.”
Thompson is no stranger to driving for Ford; he drove for Jim Beam Racing in the 2007 enduros and also raced a Falcon in the 2006 Fujitsu Series.
When asked whether he had been able to show his full potential in 2008, Thompson replied “bits and pieces”.
“If you look over the results really carefully we have definitely shown the potential, but our season has been littered with quite a few mechanical problems and the Bathurst crash with Paul (Weel) definitely set us back because the car was destroyed,” he said.
“We have shown a lot of potential, but we haven’t got the same equipment or funding the teams up the front of the grid have so I think we’ve been punching above our weight this year.”
Thompson celebrated his 21st birthday on November 3.
“It feels like I’m getting a bit old now,” he laughed.
“There’s definitely a bit of change on the horizon and hopefully with the plans we are putting in place we can sort out next year and it should be a whole new era for me.”

Jack Daniels sponsorship, Kelly driving talent. Id say this is a very strong combo.

I think this is a good move for Larry, as the article I read was that he would be building potentially 5 cars for the main game, so perhaps he feels the engineering business is better than the day to day running of a race team....I Perkins with the Kelly Brothers could be an interesting weapon, as Todd has shown at times this season that Larry's VE, as not as crap as some of them...

AA reports that Dumbrell is locked in with WP in a two car team with an up & coming youngster. Wonder whats happening over at Kelly/Perkins then.

Well depending on who you believe the Kelly's have got two FG's sitting in the old 00 Motorsport workshop being prepped for next season (which if they are running with Perkins help would mean Perkins going Ford as well) or there will be a four or five car Kelly/Perkins joint venture with the two Kelly's, Jack Perkins and another as yet unnamed driver or two (names like Steve Owen, Max Wilson, Jason Bargwanna have been thrown around) running Commodores

Given that the Kelly's new home at Braeside has been revealed the rumours of John Kelly buying 00 Motorsport's old premises should be put to rest as if they are running with Perkins that would mean 3 factories being used

As far as I knew Dumbrell and his Autobarn dollars were always going to be back at WP for next year as that was part of the original deal to keep them at Holden and not go to SBR last season
