Could someone please tell me how many ATTC winners have been made in 1.18 scale. I have started with Norm Beecheys 1965 Neptune Mustang and have Jamie Whincups 2008 winner and have 12 in between. I have a long way to go but was just wondering how many have been made. Cheers

Hi Guys,
Just to confuse the issue (or clarify maybe), the Classics Beechey Mustang is called the championship winning car but it isn't how it raced at the 1965 ATCC race. The actual race winning car ran with steel wheels the exhaust coming out of the drivers side of the car and it also had a big oil cooler (?)duct under the front of the car.
Also the Castrol Mustang that Classics released wasn't the championship winning version of that year as they were different model year Mustangs.
Hope that helps.

I am getting a little confused here but hanging in trying to follow what the story is. It would be nice if there was an official list of true replica 1.18 ATTC winning cars because I myself feel that this is a very important part of Australian history and heck, I come from New Zealand! Maybe CC and Biante could really try to get a complete list. Thanks for all the replies.

fordmad17
27-01-2009, 08:39 PM
I don't think there really is one. The way I see it Bathurst winners were all the rage but now people are wanting championship cars. CC had done a couple and Biante did a few but now CC seem to be getting a few going now. Alot of the early ones were season cars that were the championship winners. If you get what I mean

Oh Five

Which bit is confusing Royal??

Just to clarify some of my post, all the certificates or boxes have "championship winner" or similar on them. With the 01 / 02 skaife cars, they were as raced in the series. The latter ones from CC are as raced in the FINAL round, thats why the 08 car that you have isnt the actual car, the final round would have had different decals.
hope this helps a bit more.

I think it depends upon how hung up you are on when/where they won their championship. For my F1 collection, I try where possible to always buy the version of the car from the very round where it was that they became the champion (for F1 in 08 I will purchase Lewis' Brazilian GP car), be it the final round of if previous, when mathematically it became clear that they couldn't be beaten.

This decision would be the only thing which would motivate preference for a Oran Park version over a regular seasons one, if it is only 1 car that you purchase.

Same Camaro, in the # 76 engine was different, car had tobacco sponsorship and I have a feeling the guards were flared more. CC did not do any of this to the model.

ok guy that didn't understand my comment, first of all i meant if i was a Whincup fan i would have bought his 1/18 (i'm a Tander fan so i have his 08 1/18) now cc will bring out whincups oran park car and what i'm saying is i wouldn't bother with that as i prefer models of cars that race at more than 1 race, for example i have Tander's 2007 car in 1/18 but not the Phillip Island car (have it in 1/43 though) as like i said i prefer cars that raced at more than 1 round (excluding Bathurst winners of course) hope this makes sense to all if it doesn't just say you don't and i'll try and simplify it more.

To add to that, 1998 (I believe it was) Lowndes raced both the VS & VT to win the championship & both of these models have been made. In 1999 Lowndes also raced the VS in reverse livery @ Winton after he rolled the VT. Does this still qualify as another Championship winning car?
On a couple of occasions Biante have released the ATCC cars for half the field during the year & then done a Championship Winning car, perhaps with some small livery differences in a celebratory box at years end. I believe CC also have done this with the Ambrose/Ingall BA's.
Don't know which model is more appealing, usually I'd prefer first issue, yet I guess a nice simple way for the manufacturers to flog another another 3000-5000 models & if they can get a good run then hopefully the old price benefits are in part pssed onto the punters..

That was 99 he did that, in 98 Lowndes ran the VS then ran the VT at Darwin and Oran Park. then back to the VS for Indy and back into the VT for Bathurst... Would love the Bathurst VT to be made though.

Ah, it was #7 in 1971 & # 76 in 1972, a little known Australian car won in 1970.

The main visual change was the white flash up the side panel leading to the roof, change in number & Marlboro signage. The main change was the engine being swapped from the ZL/1 alloy 427 to the iron 350, & changing disc brakes to drums. And it still won, messed with Moffs mind a fair bit apparently.

They have only done the Vs 1998 car. They are yet to do the Vt form 1998 .Biante have done the 1999 Vt year car and the 1999 Bathurst car. I am still waiting for the 98 VT to put along side my Vs. But Biante cant do this while Classic have the HRT licence.

Heres a curly one, in 1976 Moff started with the City Ford Red & Gold car which burnt to the ground in the Adelaide hills. He then leased John Goss,s McLeod Ford XB for two rounds & then replaced it with the Project Phoenix XB for the final rounds.

Which car is the ATCC winner ?

I know Biante have modelled the Project Phoenix car, but interestingly it did not win a race in 1976.

For mine the JG car is the most important car as it won one race & finished 2nd in the other & without these wins the championship would have been lost.
