did any victorians on the forum see todays (fridays) herald sun? with the 2004 concept mustang convetible? also, interesting to read that that ford australia dumped the mustang from its line up due to poor demand. i can understand from a cost point of view ($90,000???), people wouldnt be as willing to pay that much, but still sad to hear. so yeah. check out the pic.

Did anyone see any of the Mustangs that Ford Aust. were reasently selling ???

There was a dramatic problem with a lack of quality on such an expensive vehicle, which I think might have also played a big part in the vehicles Australian demise (not just the forthcomming XR8).

It seems that this car (the Mustang) is typical of reasent Ford products, where they (Ford) tend to cut some corners to save a few dollars & the end result is a vehicle with a low quality control.

This may be harsh even from me (being a long time Ford person), but it seems typical of the Ford product we have been seeing from Ford over the past 5yrs. Where they tend to rush to get the car out for the cheepest possible price, but in doing so they seem to get substandard products which are bought for a price, rather than spending a little bit more & getting quality parts, which in the end gives the public a quality product.

I did see the 2004 Stang in the paper & it looks like an awesome vehicle, it's a pitty we won't see it down under as it would be a real 'head turner'.

cheers.

I don't wish to sound biased but I love the retro mustang. It has the 69 look around the head lights. The old shape fast back design with the rear pillar and the rear tri bar type tail lights.

I can certainly see some of the good stuff from the old Mustangs in this concept car. It's concept so I doubt we will ever see it on the road.

I'm headed to the Detroit Auto Show on Saturday. Hopefully, the car won't be totally mobbed and I can get a decent picture. Hoping to get some shots of the GTO as well.

On the Mustang, I think they've done a fair job of bringing back styling cues from the old one. Where they've placed them, they work pretty well.

The 2004 concept Mustang is styled very similar to the 60's Mustang(like Steve Mcqueen "Bullit" mustang).
Wouldn't mind seeing Bowe racing it in GT-performance if Ford oz considered selling them.
Also what have Prancing Horse done with thier 25 Ford Mustang RA Cobras yet?Thier said to be 310kw.

I have a feeling that after what happened to the Bowe Mustang by the Procar officals that they (Prancing Horse) decided to drop the whole program.

The one that Bowe used very successfully in 2001, was used as a traing vehicle for some of PHR's less cashed up drivers to race back in the pack with the rest of the division 2 cars in GT-P.

Unfortunally Ford must not have made enough noise towards Procar in defence of Bowe (unlike what Holden did with the Mega Monaro).

cheers.

The biggest problem with the mustangs in Australia was 1) the price and 2) the rough conversion done by then FTR: Ford tickford racing....I saw an article were the conversion was popped rivetted and glued onto the fire wall...Very rough.
