I know this is not related to model cars but did anyone see today tonight last night regarding the story about the lemon cars. For those who didn't a guy had a VX GTS that had three engines replaced, one rebuilt and 44 other problems. HSV says the problem is due to him changing the suspension. That wouldn't relate to any engine problems but it makes me think, why change the suspension on a HSV let alone a $95000 car. My guess is he does a bit of circuit racing. The engines should last I guess but if they are doing constant high revs around a race track it is bound to reduce the life of the engine. The vehicle is a street car not a race car. If I was a motoring boss I wouldn't warrant a car that is thrashed around a race track. I could be wrong about this whole thing, maybe the guy is just unlucky and really does have a lemon but the whole suspension change thing is got me thinking that there is more to the story.
Just goes to show you that HSV's aint built Ford tough, and in my opinion these highly overpriced cars should be able to handle this type of engine punishment. Oh and what a poor excuse blaming the suspension, what on earth has the suspension got to do with engine wear?

Dave, if you had seen the entire segment you would have also seen the silver AU ute driven very unhappily by a technician. This guys business is working from his car. The AU has had everything from door sills falling off to entire wiring looms falling off and the LPG system shutting down with no warning. There were many other faults on this car and Ford claimed they had fixed everything but the car was still unsatisfactory. Built Ford tough?. doubt it!
It goes to show that all cars can have faults, Ford and Holden included (I reven read about a brand new Lamborghini Murcielago where the journo had the gear lever break off in his hand).
I remember when Subaru brought the STI out and they did not accept warranty claims for any damage incurred by a car that had been driven in performance events (track days and motorkanas included). The engine apparently couldn't handle high revs and hard work because it wasn't entirely happy with our lower octane petrol (Subaru hadn't reworked the engine properly).

I agree with GTS, I felt the segment was a little harsh on the GTS Commodore. Car from every factory have problems and I tend to think this particular GTS 300 may have been on the end or many floggings from it's owner.
Yes the Falcon did have it's problem but TT seemed content in not going into it's problems as much as the Commodore.
They took a few shots of the GTS owner checking the dipstick as well.

every thing went wrong and broke off or packed up including the donk In the end he bought a WRX and loved it.
this car was never used in any motorsport event
I do not look after my Lanos but it performs Faultless and what blows up or falls off is replaced with a smile and no bills!!
No Testostorone and no cost:D

If your Lanos is faultless why are things falling off and blowing up? .... You don't need 3 years Free Care with a laser ..... rotflmao @ferrari fan.
I hope they threw Kane and a copy of Snow Dogs in, so you can teach Kane how to tow it up hills.

It was a typical Today Tonite non event going no where story, they go for the gold and do not do a decent follow up with qualified responses. Did you see the size of the GTS owner no wonder he needed new front suspension. 4 new 300kw engines is almost as much as the retail cost of the car, Ill bet its not Happy New Holden at his dealership. I have just brought the new VY "S" for the wife so fingers crossed.

for those of you not in the motor industry, these promblems happen everyday from your hyundai's right up to your merc's.
i know of plenty of falcons & commodores, standard & performace models that have had promlems from day one, from gearboxs to engine seals, brakes, suspension, you name it, its happened.
doesnt just happen with cars, everyone has brought something at sometime that has **** its self, just today brought a new printer for the pc & it too has already been replaced.
didnt seee the article/story but wouldnt beleive half the b******t they tell on these current affair shows, the story seems to get out of hand, bit like chinese whispers.

I gotta agree with Mustang's statement.. that GTS has been on the losing end of some severe asskickin's from the owner... no way he's tellin the real story of how he's treatin that car...

I had a VR2 HSV Senator. After 9 visits to the local Holden service department in 12 months (excluding servicing) I got rid of it. Generally it wasn't the HSV parts that were crook, it was the donor Holden that it was based on. Most disapointing thing was that neither GMH or HSV were interested once they sold the car.
Looked good tho'.

there was something about a tracking device or something similar on the HSV car. could this have something to do with his engine problems as well...stuffing something on the computer???

Yes its possible the tracker was affecting the computer. I was once a mechanic working on brand new Mercs, some cars were trouble from the start and the owners got new ones, I know of one guy who got a brand new S600 because his other one was a dud and thats a $450000 car. But 4 engines on a GTS, got to be more to it. I must admit I have a VX SS and the dealer I purchased the car from was hopeless, there were no problems with the car but they created them by touching things that didn't need to be touched. (the handbrake) After the first service it was a lot tighter to apply and from that day it began to make a scraping noise in the rear which a lot of Commodores do. I knew exactly what they did wrong, took it back 5 times and they still couldn't fix it. Took it to another dealer who fixed it straight away, but getting it wrong on four engines, don't think so.
