I'm looking around for good track map of the Rally Cross tracks from the 70's.
Any scans from old rce programmes would be good.
I'm in need of the following maps -
Catalina Park
Calder Park
Tailem Bend
Towac

There was an article about Rallycross in a magazine called Mini Experience, early in 2008. It was issue 14, April - June 2008.

That certainly had a map of Catalina.

You could contact Calder and ask them - there might be some archives there.

The other tracks might have been run by local car clubs; contacting them would be a good start.

You could still see the old track at Catalina 20 years ago - it turned left just before the start of the climb on the main straight, went through the infield and rejoined the main track just before the Tunnel of Love.

Tomorrow I'm going for a drive out to Katoomba to check out Catalina Park, I'll see if I can find anything out while I'm there

It is still possible to walk the rallycross track at Catalina

Where is exits and enters the main track are still easily visible, and there are still barriers and tyre stacks in the infield that marked the track. Most of the Rallycross part of the track is just a little walking track now, or was the last time i walked it.

Any chance you could give us an update of how bad things have gotten on track whitlam, especially the washaway just beyond Craven A?

David, try Google maps. Someone had marked all the tracks around the world on it. If you open it up, then search for the particular track, it should come up if marked. I did have a link for it on the old computer before it went into the light.

Can you just drive up & get access ?

Sure can, just park in the aquatic centre that resides right next to the main straight and jump the fence. The track is considered a 'dog walking path' these days

They still occasionally open up the access gate to the track to allow parking in the old pits if there is a function or something on, that was how i snuck a lap of the track 2 or 3 years ago..a slow lap though so it didn't draw attention.

I believe when the guy who owned it passed away he left it to the council with his wish for it not to be redeveloped

I think the land was given to the aboriginals by the council, basically because they didn't know what to do with the place

There is thread over on the atlas nostalgia forum somewhere which goes into it abit more.

basically it won't be fixed up, but won't be bulldozed either.

You can get down to Catalina I remember a year or two ago my mate who lives up near there was asked by the local paper to bring his GT down there for some celebration they were doing they got a bunch of old muscle cars to line up on the grid and do a race start.. No one told my mate how hard he could go so gave it a bootful and passed everybody easy to do when you have over 500hp..
