Radical changes to F1 for the 2003 season.

The new rules that the FIA decided to ‘rigorously apply’ for the 2003 season are as follows:

1. Cars to be placed in parc ferme between final qualifying and the race (teams will be unable to work on them, except under strict supervision).

2. Traction control, launch control and fully automatic gearboxes (possible dispensation for all or part of 2003, to be followed by absolute enforcement in 2004, if necessary by standard ECUs).

3. Pit to car and car to pit telemetry outlawed.

4. All radio communication between team and driver banned.

5. Only two cars per team allowed (ie: no spare cars).

6. Standard braking systems and rear wings across all teams from the start of 2004

Huge changes to the 'pinnacle' of motor sports.

What do you lot think............

The battle for control is well and truly on
what the bodycount will be and who is left standing will be determined in the goodness of time
In my book the Holy war has already started with the top teams like Mclaren ready for this years season and then their toy taken of them by a rather kneejerk reaction from Mad Max &Co
Interesting to be sure.
The good thing Bernie has done is to grant the 3 indipendant teams a much bigger slice of the Pie (TV) and by this making sure that no more teams are falling off the bandwagon

Yes indeed farrai fan..............I was disappointed with the winding up of Walkinshaw's Arrows team. I understand that they owe a deal of money and that Heinz-Harald Frentzen applied to have the team wound up as Arrows owes him wages from the 2002 season.

I know they owe Cosworth $$$ for engine supplies etc.

I wonder if this will have a flow on affect at TWR at all???

This with the changes to Qualifying will make for a much Better show, it will take more finesse from the divers to get through days one and two and still have and engine that will last the race on Sunday.

I just read the whole FIA press statement on these rules at itv-f1.com. Max has gone mad. I doubt you would see many cars reach the end with the telemetry cut and no communication beween the driver and pit. What has max done. Got to www.itv-f1.com to see the F1 world reaction including Jean todt and Schueys view
