Thought I would start a new thread to post pictures of Hot Wheels, Matchbox and other makes to generate some diversity, knowledge and interest in other brands of diecast models, particularly the "toy" brands.
First up is a Hot Wheels Rodger Dodger from 1977

Not much to tell mate, Drill the rivet on the bottom and the whole car comes apart. Strip the paint off and then re paint. Not much to it really.

Good thread, I'm sure there's lots of members out there that have old models in boxes stashed away, I've got boxes of matchbox 1-75's, tomica, matchbox yesteryear & hot wheels that i could get out, some I've had for 25 years.......now to find them!
Cheers,

Being a young fella, I got trillions of these things. Mum and dad bought me my first one, a hotwheels porsche for my 4th birthday and I got nearly 1 a week after that. Mum and dad also have some (I'm guessing) rare matchbox cars from when they were young too.
Anyway, heres a very small portion of my favourite ones that didn't get ruined (I used to have races with them:D). As you can see, I don't display them but I bought some cases to hold them all without getting damaged.

You gotta be kidding me, didnt think you would get it straight away.
Yeah, thats it, spoil my fun.....
I have it in 2 colours, but aparantly it was released world wide in about 20 different colour variants, and also, it came out as a rough trek 4X4, another one had a bike trailer with 3 more bikes on it, then, because the bikes all had different numbers 1-12, they were paired up, 1-2, 3-4 etc, so the actual different sets that were released vary as well, and because of the bikes, there were actually over 50 model variants, all different.
The list is endless with this one.
Me and my brother bought heaps of them when we were kids, then over the years smashed them to bits under the cloths line, and buried them.
I often say to my brother that we are going to start an archeological search one day and dig them all back up.

Do a search on ebay U.S and you will be shocked, this guy has tons of them, all different colour variants, and bike number variants, all mint.

It was for the Hotwheels t/hunts when you could buy them in the box set and some got damage on the way to the owners who paid for them, So hotwheels sent out the Apology car to keep them happy and got new boxs as well.

Sounds familiar. When I was six or so I dropped all my MB, Dinky and Corgi into our septic tank (down the vent). One after another, drove them across the concrete and 'plop'.
I don't know if the tank is still there. If so, you're welcome to go after them. I'd imagine some corrosion, though!
Why no Hot Wheels? It would pre-date them, that's why. I'm SO old.

Not much to tell mate, Drill the rivet on the bottom and the whole car comes apart. Strip the paint off and then re paint. Not much to it really.
Thanks lachlan, But how did you put it back together with to hold it on, Did you use a drill and tap a thread back in the rivet bit mate, And can you tell us the size of the drill and tap to do it with thanks

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u101/Dragferret/ 2009_07060008.jpg
I was a collector in the '80s and even attended the early conventions in Long Beach but got out of it when Mattel started to 'cash in' on the hobby and produce 'collectables'. I sold everything off except for the Mustangs. And I still have an original Snake and Mongoose set.
While we were pulling Crazy Critters out of serial boxes the Americans were getting cars like these:

Just use a bit of about 10mm or so and go slow. You don't want to drill the whole head off the rivet, just take some of the edge off it.
When you're putting it back together, if you haven't left enough flange on the rivet to hold it in place, a dab of Araldite will hold it.
You could drill and tap it, yes. I'd think a 4mm drill with any pitch on the thread would do the job. Again, go slow and make sure you can get appropriate screws first. If 4mm is had to get, you could go to maybe 6mm, but remember, it's a soft metal and the rod you're drilling into isn't all that thick, so it would be easy to go through the side.
Seriously, Araldite. We've used it to put patches on 1/1 car gearboxes to fix a hole! It's good stuff.
Our joke is that it's named for Araldite (Aral-dye-tee), a made-up Greek God of Strenght. Like Spectacles, the Greek optometrist (spec-tac-lees), or Archimedes (arc-i-mee-dees) the God of Welding.
Sorry, got off topic there.

Does anyone have the Matchbox action system?
What was that system that made ordinary Matchbox cars into a slot-car set? It had a long spring, running all around the track, that sat in a groove under the track, that got driven by a gear at the control box. You glued a hook to the bottom of the car and the spring dragged them around.
I got that for Christmas in 1969.

Yeah I had one of those, also an Xmas pressie circa 71, 72. The spring made a noise as went around the groove. The gear drive was hidden inside a little service station. Very groovy orange track.

Was that the one that lay on the ground & the track "essed" from one booster to the next ? My cousin had one something like that, it was a long time ago as Kashmir so kindly pointed out.

Or watching the old races in their heyday AT THE TRACK instead of just on Video/DVD etc. Nothing like the sound and smells of real racing with bodgey rubber and brakes.

Whilst I was putting a few of the new acquisitions away today I was having a look at some of the cars in the collection that I have 'duplicates' of......
As we are aware of the colour changes on some of the Hotwheels models there are some other subtle changes that can also occur within the same model and are mainly but not always attributed to different wheels.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x207/Motiv8or/M odels/HW.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x207/Motiv8or/M odels/hw1.jpg
The first one with the 240Z's obviously has different colours but the top yellow one has different wheels. The 350Z's on the other hand have an example of different wheels (top yellow one again ) but the lower of the two blue ones was packaged without the rear wing on it.

IIRC I was given the VN:D by my retailer before he sold the Shop.
Now Terry's bought MMH back things are starting to look up as the previous owner let it go a bit (in terms of Diecast so now MMH has plenty of Diecast esp BRL's & earlier Biante's all 20% off & Terry is a bit gunshy of Diecast ATM).

My main complaint about Hot Wheels is, well, the wheels. The 250 GT-O is a exception, but they far too often put inappropriately big / wide wheels on what otherwise would be great models of historical cars.
Not that this stops me buying them. I have a few. Maybe more than a few!

All Long cards :D
My first real car was a 1600 me and 2 mates bought cheap. We ripped out the back seat (found $50) and smashed out all the windows and added Fencing mesh, painted the front red and the back light blue, with the centre white with a big 69 on the side and added 6 rally style Sotlights to the bonnet (to chase Hare's((rabbits))). We used to flog it at lytton on about 80 acres on council crown land beside the brissy river. Redline it, jump it, flog it and it still was ready to go the next day/night.
