How good is that!!!!
I wonder if any of the sports tour companies will be doing packages?
Regards
Damian
Yep, quite interesting. I thought it was a big ask getting them to cross the Tassie to Pukekohe to make it an international series.
I guess out of a population in Shanghai of 20 million that it shouldn't be hard to get several thousand turn up to the racing.
What will the Chinese make of V8 Holdens & Fords though? Will the Chinese fans dislike Mark Skaife as well?

Oh I bet the Chinese are already talking Parity and the buldge on the BA.
What I would love to see next in V8Supercars would a race in downtown Bombay, India. They could make it a street race and include the local taxi, Honda Hero's and TaTa trucks.
As far as a package tour to China, Damien. I will pass on that one, give me Japan anyday :)
V8SS, try a phone call to China and say "Wei, Mark Skaife, HRT" see what kind of response you get.

I just hope they don't try and get too many OS rounds. I like what we have, and if we lose rounds to OS, then that means less V8s in the flesh for us. I go to every NSW round and 1 interstate round per year. I don't want to miss my fix because i can't afford to go to Germany or England for a round of our beloved Supercars.

How do you think we feel in Good 'ol Tassie then? we have already lost our round and now it looks like no hope of getting it back! :(

will it be called the world touring car championship now?? I think it sucks..as Donny05 pointed out, Tassie have lost thier round and in Qld we only get one round at Willowbank and one round at indy where you cant see any of the racing if you go to the track to see it live. There is a fairly new track at Ormeau, near Gold Coast, so why noy upgrade that track or whatever it needs and have more rounds in Aus to keep us happy

Got to say I wasn't impressed when I heard the news on channel 10 tonight.
Why race in China ???
Do we sell Falcons & Commodores there ?? - I don't think so !!!
I know the American's are rushing to China because of them freeing up their trade, but the V8's ?
I don't see why we need to have a V8 race in China (but I don;t think we need 2 races at EC either but thats another topic), I couldn't have thought of a tougher place to try & race the V8's (perhaps the states, but at least there is a small Australian community there).
The NZ race made sense, even an event in Dubi where we export Commodores would make sense, but China ???
I think we really need a race in Tasmania before we get another OS race.
Does this mean that WA will lose their race to get China into the race line up ???
Well I've said my piece, so time to move onto another post,
cheers.

well if they get hooked, then Biante will have to make 10,000,000 models of each car:D
Can you buy Biante shares !

At least all the people who work in the factories assembling the models will now be able to see what the real cars look like.
I saw on the channel 10 news that China will get every round televised on their local free to air stations to build up some sort of following.
Is there a suitable race track in China?

won't it be the same F1 track they are building?

Becareful of the REDNECK comments, we are supposed to be an educated nation and some of the replies in this thread look very ordinary. Why not China?, shanghai is a fast, amazing place that is growing faster than most western cities. TV rights will be good for most of Asia which puts money in the accounts of the teams and allows everybody to stay in the show.
And china has many V8's, they are not as primative as some of you would like to think.

Why a V8 Supercar race in China???
Easy - an advertisers wet dream, a potential market of a billion people!!
Go Ford!!
V8's to Shanghai?
I hope the Chinese fans don't get Holdenated.
The Dubai idea was meant to have DTM's racing as well.
Maybe the V8's will race with the F1's at Shanghai,or if not have another international catagory race alongside the V8's like DTM,BTCC,ALMS or even PROCAR supports or even Konica series.
Holden has talked about exporting Commodores to China,CC's and Biante models are made there and Ford Global might make cars there soon(maybe Falsons for China if the US amkes thier own).

I take it you're just a wee bit skeptical about it all Admin.
I personally hope it doesn't happen. Money madness has taken over. What used to be the sport of motor racing has become just another form of 'entertainment', another way to make more money for a few people.
''I know'', they say, ''lets put a round on in china, that's gotta be worth a few more million in our pockets. But what about the fans back home?'', one asks, ''Don't worry about them, they can watch it on TV, and hey there's another few million in TV rights, we can't lose''
R.I.P. ATCC Finally they've killed you.

Just for info...the V8 Supercar round at Pukekohe has been a big success. It is probably the second biggest motorsport event in NZ, behind Rally NZ.
The V8 Supercars have a big following here, and of course a lot of us get around in Commodores and Falcons.
Although I'm sorry that places like Tasmania and Canberra have lost their ATCC round, I hope we will keep one here in NZ for a few more years.

I have some real resversations about this China round of the V8's & the promation from TC reminds me of another form of racing (see my short story below, based on a true story).
This catergory decided to have an international race to raise the profile of their sport (it was very successful). Then they got another & another & another international race & then, some international drivers bought a seat in some of the teams & the responce was 'wow were really going places now, international races, international drivers arn't our series great !!!'
Then eventuallly after 3-4 years of success the catoragory grows a little more (more international races, tracks & drivers) until there are only 6 drivers from the origionating country still racing in the championship.
The public now decides 'I don't want to see our cars driven by international drivers on international track & sponsored by international companies' & the fans move away from the series.
Around this time a rival racing league was formed, with some up & comming local drivers on local tracks with local sponsors. Soon this new local caterogry which was based on the basis o the origional series grew & grew & grew, until the origional series only had a field of 15 cars. Now there were very few local drivers, racing in a few locally owned teams, racing on a few local, but mostly international tracks.
Then after 3-4 years of the rival series most of the local teams from the origional series had 'jumped ship' & the fans returned, the racing was fantastic & the status quo was returned, but this time to the new caterorgy.
I'm sure by now you know who & what I am talking about.
Point of my story : If you take something that is great in one country & try to sell it to countries that don't/can't appreciate what they've got & understand why it is so great, then in the end we will lose out big time !!!!
The hope of China taking to our V8's, remindes me of how we took to NASCAR racing at the Thunderdome (short term interest, but where is it now ???) & how the American took to seeing the Indycars turned into an multinational racing caterogy (isn't it funny how the IRL has grown so fast over the past 2-3 years ???)
Food for thought,
Cheers.
