Just prepaid for my tickets for Dad and I. Happy Fathers Day. Can't wait to go. Been looking forward to this all year. Long drive from here but so very very worth it. Who else here is heading to the creek for a nostalgic overdose?:D

More importantly, who's actually taking a muscle car?
I'll have my Mustang at Rat Day in the morning, as I live in the Shire. But then I'll drive it home and go to the Masters as a spectator.

Nah - I went to first 2 with my baby which I really enjoyed but prior to the 3rd year that idiot Oastler decided that he wanted to CHARGE ME for taking MY car to HIS show so HE could make MONEY at MY expense, I told him to shove it & so did a lot of muscle car owners.

Yep I'll be there..............I couldn't believe the traffic last time it was crazy. So my advice is to get there really really really early. We got there around 9am but by the time we actually got inside it was around 10.30am.

I will be there with the plastic GT (BFGT) although I totally agree with commanderwhite having to pay to display your car is not very encouraging and that is why a lot of X-series GT owners don't attend.

It is a must for old school signature hunters.

Yep I agree..............I wonder if Harry is going to make it this year? He looked very frail last year - a really nice bloke. He was selling some posters last year and when I went up to him with my young boy (he was 2 then) Harry grabbed one of his posters signed it and gave it to my boy.

I loved the fact that they stop and talk to you, instead of the guys racing now where they just churn out the signatures.

I made the trek from perth last year and loved every minute of it.Wont be able to make it this year but will be going again for shure.Signature hunting is a great pastime at the muscle car masters.

Do they actually charge you to show your car or are they just charging you admission to the event?

i.e. If Fred Bloggs wants to park his family hack outside and see the event and Joe Bloggs wants to display his pristine original GT or GTS at the venue as well as see the event, do they pay the same price?

GTHO Racers

They don't charge you to display your car. You pay the entry fee like everyone else however, some classic car owners will not display their cars as they believe their cars are part of the attraction.

This is one of my 'must do' events, sadly with it's being so close to the endurance races it's just a bit hard to find enough $$$ to do them all....oh well there is always next year, those lucky enough to go, enjoy :)!

ARDC have billed my credit card, so I guess they've accepted my entry. :)

I expect this will be the last time I race my Torana. Hopefully it will be sold well before next year.

Sorry but you're wrong - In 2005 our club the Monaro Car Club of NSW was invited to display our cars on the skid pan - entry was FREE - NO COST. The same deal was for 2006 no problems but in 2007 we HAD to PAY an entry fee to display our cars - so we told him to stick it he then decided that he wanted only certain models of makes each year so that didn't endear him to us either.

Now if the entry fee was for charity I would gladly display my car but I won't make Oastler a rich man from the car I own.

GTHO Racers
26-08-2009, 05:35 PM
O.K, I'm happy to be corrected. Last year was my first time at the event. I paid the $30.00 (I think) entry fee which I believe all public entrants pay. I can now see why others choose not to attend.

Dragferret
26-08-2009, 07:41 PM
I too displayed my car for free on the skid pan the first year. I also got to drive a parade lap on the track. I don't have a problem with paying an entry fee as these events cost money to put on. My beef is that if I'm paying a fee I want to feel like I'm part of the event. Parking my car on the dirt on the hill doesn't make me feel like an entrant. The first year they put us there my car came home filthy. That's totally unacceptable given the value of these cars. I haven't taken it back since. At the nostalgia drags next door I can park my car on the bitumen or grass that adjoins the pits. Last year Mark assured me that the street cars would be on the area behind the grandstand. As it turned out that area was given over to traders and the road cars were cast aside again. So I'll take my car to Rat Day then go to the Masters as a spectator.

One day people are going to ask why there's no muscle cars at the Muscle Car Masters.

AmonFan
27-08-2009, 05:40 AM
I would think the muscle cars would be on the track ;)

Dragferret
27-08-2009, 02:55 PM
Sorry Amonfan but only race cars will be on the track. The muscle cars will be at home. And maybe all they want is a historic race meeting.

David Towe
27-08-2009, 07:00 PM
FYI, as an entrant for racing the fee is reasonable, we get 4 tickets for pit crew and I pay standard pricing for the extra people I take with me. I can understand the complaints re paying to display your cars, perhaps a discounted entry for thos bringing their cars is a good compromise?
Can someone remember to pack the rain for the weekend, I'll need it I think.

AmonFan

I see you fired someone up on 10/10ths David :p One hell of a fast XE that, he once told me at a race meeting at Winton 1997 that when he had a lose at the Sweeper he was doing 240ks :p Im not sure Thommo's Twin Turbo Merc would have accelerated that hard ;)...... I remember telling him that the 125cc Superkart i was running at the same meeting was nudging about 170 ks thru the sweeper however was some 10 seconds faster in lap times :p

I remember the article on the Debut of questioned XE, was in Motorsport News, there tells a story...........

Firstly, thank you everyone for the pics of the Winfield car. It looks right at home on the track. Now if only I could hear that thing run in anger.....

Secondly, I am really distressed seeing that Chickadee car so badly bent. I hope it will be rebuilt. If that had happened to the Winfield car I'd probably be in tears. Historic Racing is great for us punters seeing them out and about again, but gee it has some risks too.

It's a real car, but it's not the Bathurst winner. It's a VK Commodore with the same paint, is all.

Quite a few of the Central Muscle Cars have replica liveries. I'll put some up later (busy now - gotta go and get a lap chart now, of the Biante Series race).

The historic racing was great, and I really enjoyed meeing the old drivers, but the street driven muscle was pushed further away. Its obvious that they don't want the road cars there anymore. Rat Day had a better display. Next year I'll stay at Taren Point.

Just got back from the Masters. What a day. walking through the pits talking to different drivers, having a very close look at most of the cars, Harry Firth loved having a chat with my young blokes. What a great man.
Great atmosphere and a action packed day. High light for me was watching the Group Nb, go the EH's.
Even saw the 1:18 VL's in the Biante hut. These are brilliant and unreal detail.
Great crowd and weather.

And yes I know there was dust on my sensor. Didn't have any way of knowing until I'd downloaded all the photos. Dammit. I also didn't take as many pictures as normal, as I was busy with doing words this weekend. I'll be doing the on-track action stuff for Australian Muscle Cars. Yay!

inter - the ANZ shot was taken at 1/80. I did all my pans between 1/60 - 1/125 with varying degrees of success :D

Thanks for the comments Rob, think I might take you up on that idea actually.

Was not really in the right mood to be taking pictures yesterday so did not take as many as could of.

To the guys with other pics here , well done as there is some really great shots in this lot. All the more to give me ideas and motivation for Bathurst....

Just got home now from this event, it was awesome!
My Dad and I had a great time, and couldn't believe how good it was.
So many different cars, so much great racing,a nd the sounds were unreal.
Best bit was staying at the Chiffley, right across the road as we could see the cars from our room.

It doesn't get any better.
Haven't checked my pix yet, hopefully there's some worth posting.

Got all the autographs I needed, but when I found out Graeme Bailey was present, I tried to grab him to sign some 1986 Bathurst items (he is 1 out of 8 surviving Bathurst winners I'm yet to meet), yet again he eludes me.

Same on you Mr Bailey, for not making yourself availble to race fans (he was asked to attended the 2pm Meet the Legends session but refused to come), who'd like to meet you, as I wasn't the only one left high and dry.

They had the full history of the Repco Trial winner in AMC. I think Holden have known the whereabouts of #05 all along. The 2nd & 3rd placed Commodores could have gone "missing" for a few years. I have seen pictures of one of them that has been recently restored (could have also been in AMC). It runs in in some events now & then where they have to remove the ciggy advertising.

Can't confirm that the "Beast" Torana was not a replica. Seemed like a full on job if it was though. Unless it was all show, looked like the engine had been moved back in with the driver etc. Someone on here would know. I have heard that the actual "Beast" Torana (not the rally cross one) is owned by a known motoring bloke, so we'll see.

It was the Barry Ferguson car. Barry (it is alleged, but Barry has never confirmed nor denied it) that they took a dive to let Brock win (and Brock wasn't involved in this; it was done by Holden management to capitalise on Brock's name).

Barry now has the car restored to its former glory.

There was a run of 25 VB Commodores for the Repco Round Australia Rally. They had extra welds, a 202 and four-speed, LSDs and reinforced suspension mounts. Gelignite Jack Murray ran one as well and that's still in his family.

I'd certainly like to see it in 1/43 or 1/64 but I think in 1/18 it would be a good way for Biante to lose money; you'd need a completely new mould for it, both outside and in. But it would probably be a good fit for a boutique maker like Automodelli or Models56. Just a thought...

Well, I don't know if they couldn't, actually. The Repco cars had different bumpers, bonnet pins. Maybe they could adapt it, I suppose. I'll be honest, I'd forgotten all about the road cars.

But the interior would need to be completely different, of course. And no two of the cars (other than the M-HDT cars) would have been the same inside.

They're unlikely even to notice, I'd say.

There are a few involved in historics one way or another. Glenn Seton's driving that DTM M3 pretty regularly as well as his own Group N Capri. Jim Richards and John Bowe, of course, in the Biante series, Steve Richards has his Escort Twin-Cam tarmac rally car. Paul Morris has done the MCM a time or two (he'll drive anything, of course).

I guess if we could get more of the guys in their old cars - Tony Longhurst, Mark Skaife, Neil Crompton (in the GIO car). I think Bob Holden still has a steer every now and then - how many cars did he build and race? Bo in one of his old Capris maybe.

It's pretty hard for the top guys - they spend so few weekends at home.

Yes, I purchased it from the guy who restored it back to the STP livery. It had been running as the Ignis Fridges - Ken Matthews car from 1984.

I've had the running gear refreshed and MCM was it's debut. First time on the track in STP colours since 1983.

You can't beat the sound of a V8 at 6500rpm can you?
