Dunno about that.First I've heard of it.

It wont stop me from going on the cruise. For me it's about the man.Who he was and what he was about.I appreciate the oppotunity to pay my respects and I will. The rest is incidental.

Still havent been able to bring myself to get up to the site at Gidgy. I think I will go up on his birthday instead of the anniversary of his death. Safe travels to whoever goes though.

I've just got off the phone with Danees at the Brock Foundation and it's still all business as usual. They have not closed down.

The cruise is fully authorised by the PBF with funds going to worthwhile causes.

as above, the Brock Foundation is very much alive and well and ALL MONIES raised go to them, just like last year.

i think people should know what they are talking about before shooting their mouths off.........

i will be trying to go again this year as i havent missed one yet.......but....... at the same time, i may not, i don't like the large crowds and there isnt exactly much room for the amount of cars that turn up! is a great day though.....

Mark I took my son past the day before on our way to Toodyay for Targa West.
He has never been here before and was quite taken by the beauty that surrounds this spot!

Whilst at start of Targa West on the Friday morning before in Forrest place I was looking for a program and came across a chap who was wearing an "OFFICIAL" tag around the neck.
This Person had the attention of another who had a "PRESS" tag on and were in a conversation.
As I patiently stood back the official noticed he had an audience (me) and raised the level of his voice as if to be heard.
This conversation seemingly started to run in circles so I politely cut in,
asking if there were any program's this year ?
After having a look around .this gentleman noticed a couple of helpers starting to hand out programs and pointed me in their direction.
I thanked him and started to walk away, when I turned and asked if he was an official?
He said you could say that!
To that I asked
What would be your thoughts on a commemorative plaque being place in Forrest place in the memory of Peter Brock not being seen as a sad thing thing but the celebration of his life and the starting point of his last event.
His reply was a firm No!

May I ask why was my reply?

His answer sort of astounded me
This is not the place for a plaque,
There is a plaque and monument at the location of his crash site.
This raised my level of defence!
I replied you mean the plaques that have been attached only by fans to a rock that was provided by the local shire and located approximately 60 metres down hill from the site and the tree has sadly been poisoned when it was showing signs of regrowth.

He relied something like The tree was dangerous and had no chance of survival as it had been ring barked, so it had to bee removed as it had claimed a life.
and if it has been poisoned that is because it is in a dangerous location or fans may wish to souvenir bits off it causing another road hazard!
I then fired back
Well if you consider this tree to be so dangerous, why wasn't the tree that is only 2 metres away that claimed the life of a motorcyclist sometime before Brocky was left standing ?
and so it should
This chap then went on to Say
We at Targa went to a great effort in the next Targa West event to celebrate Brock and by doing that we have done enough!

I parted thanking him for his time and with the comment
That if you consider Clenton Road in Gidgeganup to be so unsafe now
maybe Targa should have looked into the road safety history of this road before hosting the event.

This guy was obviously very highly ranked in Targa world as the last time i saw him on the Friday was waving the cars of with the Lord Mayor.

Hopefully one day a person in power with foresight will see the benefits in remembering and a fitting memorial will be installed at these locations

If visiting the crash site
Please leave only your thoughts
Take away with you your memories, photo's
and Please clean up any rubbish left by anyone
Most of all respect the location and all visiting no matter what they drive

3 years soon
gone faster than Bocky's last lap in 79

we won't be there this year, as i said, not a fan of sooooo many cars being there at the same time, will make our way up there at a different time, also when the weathers a bit better.

I might go. My VL is being used in a wedding on Sunday but I might take the old clunker VS SS up there but like I said, I'd probably rather do it on what would be his 65th birthday in February next year. That way I can go for a squirt in the hills with the Group A.

They were there
Cars lined the road,
Many makes
Many types

OK now I'll ask for help,

Footy and myself have been trying to find the right people in position
who can and will help with getting approval and the installation of a proper tribute / memorial to Peter Brock at the location of his accident and / or a plaque at the starting point in Forrest Place in Perth City.
However we keep running into what seems ignorance or a total dislike of the idea!
hence my spill about the official at the start of Targa West 2009 in this thread.

If you think you can help
Go For it

Long live the memory of Brocky

I don't know the WA or local governments very well, but you need to find the right person in there. It is the only way you'll ever get anything. The Targa organisers are not the right people to approach about this (I agree with them, they have done everything they can).

Going by your pictures alone (never been to the site), but I don't think anybody would ever let a memorial of any kind be built at the actual site. Far too dangerous and open to liabilities in this age of increasing legal action. Probably better to try and get a memorial at the start line.

Happy to chat via PM.

The local Shire would be the go.I can't see any reason why something couldn't be erected at the crash site end.Perhaps not on the actual spot but down the hill where the 05 stone is.I would'nt have thought anything down there would be anymore dangerous than the trees lining the road.
You may well have better luck with the local shire, especially if they didn't have to fork out the readies rather than fighting Perth City Council.

Would be great to see something befitting of Brocky.Whats there is sad to say the least.
