Hi all,

Just unboxed my orange XY & my candy apple red XW to find when I peeled the clear round stickers that hold the boot in place (in transit), they left most of the sticky residue on the cars.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Anybody got any ideas how to clean it off without stuffing up the paint???

By the way, I never had this problem with my purple XY & blue XB coupe.

Cheers.

Perkster -

I noticed this on my XW and XY as well. In the States, we have something called 'Goo Gone'. I used it sparingly and it came right off without harming the underlying paint.

The only thing to use is Eucalyptus Oil. Does the best job and leaves it looking like new.

Hi All,

Thanks to everyone for replying. I wasn't aware that it had been discussed before. This is my 1st post. Thanks for the link Peter.

Ill have to get some Eucalyptus Oil...

And yes, my Orange XY is the vermillion fire one.

Again, thanks

Perkster,

I also have had the same problem. I do not use anything at all except the sticker itself. I firstly peel of the sticker, then I reapply it over and over again. The sticker builds up its own ball of sticky goo underneath, which lifts the sticky goo from the car as you reaaply it. It takes a few minutes for either side of the car.

Once all the goo is removed you will notice that there will be a faint outline of the sticky circle, particularly if you hold the car in certain position. To remove this I get a very soft cloth, breath on the spot to fog it up, then I gently rub with the cloth. This then removes the faint outline.

This method works for me. I hope it makes sense. I prefer not to use any chemicals or oils on my cars as you never know what long term damage can be done.

Cheers

Good 1 Glenn, works for me, I have had the same success! A lint free cloth is great...ie; an old (white) cotton shirt.

PREPSOL OR WAX & GREASE REMOVER, will do the trick.

Gee, removing these stickers will reduce the value of the model as its no longer MIB (Mint In Box)

Seriously,

It's great to see some collectors taking the models out of the boxes and not worrying about straps etc being kept on.

I often wondered about those models that are kept in the boxes with the straps and plastic still wrapped around them as to whether they would eventually leave a mark. ????

Before anyone jumps on me, yes i have a few in their boxes still due to space but i remove all straps etc.

I think a true enthuasists of models would take the product out of the packaging to get the real feel of the model, the smell and the eye level view to achieve a sense of realism.

I'm getting my first 1:18 display cases in a couple weeks. As soon as they arrive, all the Biantes will be out of the boxes/straps as soon as possible.

While I let my remaining bBuragos gather dust on the open shelves, I won't let that happen to the Biantes.

Zeitgeist,

What do your fellow collectors over there think about them?

bBurago definitely serves a purpose over here. It's a reasonable 1/18 facsimile for approx AU$16, if you shop at the right places.

I think they're the McDonalds of the diecast industry. They'll do in a pinch if nothing else is around or if your wallet dictates it.... and we all know how well McDonalds fares.

Frankly, I like their 456GT and 550 Maranello. I'll probably keep them displayed.

not a very good simile...bburago and maccas
maccas just released its first loss in 47 years..US$344 million and closed 630 restaurants last year...that cheap model might last..but will the big mac?

Terrine -

You are absolutely correct - good catch. As soon as I posted that, I remembered that Mickey D's just posted a loss. I should've said "we all know how well McDonalds USED to fare". The fast food industry is in decline here; probably the low-end die-cast industry is as well.

Whilst we're on the subject, I have a round plastic clear sticker that was put on from factory to hold down the bonnet of my Biante Xy & this bloody sticker will NOT budge. I can't use anything to "lift" it off, because i'll damage the paint and i'm worried if I do pull it off, that the paint will come off with it. I've left it on for now.... any suggestions?
