View Full Version : Q for Richard Poole - any more 1/18 ATCC Skyline GT-Rs for the future
Notwithstanding the quick production and subsequent release of these cars, I am happy as a pig in mud. I even bought the white R32 GT-R.

In the display cabinet from left to right
1. Skaife 1990 ATCC Ansett Freight Rollover car. Melbourne AGP
2. Richards 1990 ATCC winner
3. Richards 1991 ATCC winner
4. Skaife/Richards 1991 BW
5. Gibbs/Onslow 1991 Sandown winner
6. White R32 ATCC
7. Richards 1992 ATCC drive car
8. Skaife 1992 ATCC winner
9. Skaife/Richards 1992 BW
Richard - it appears that the a model search on the Biante site reveals that all the Aussie Skyline R32 GT-R ATCC cars have been produced now for the moment.
http://www.biante.com.au/find-a-model.htm?page=1&submitquicksearch=Search&action=results&keyword=skyline+r32
There appears to be some holes in the Aussie Skyline R32 GT-R ATCC cars.
E.g.
1. 1990 Skaife season car
2. 1990 Skaife/Richards Bathurst car
3. 1990 Skaife/Richards Bathurst car
4. 1991 Skaife season car
5. 1991 Gibbs season car (GIO)
6. 1991 Gibbs/Onslow Bathurst car
7. 1992 Skaife/Richards Sandown car.
Does Biante have plans to produce these cars.
thank you

Im pretty sure Gibson Motorsport did not run the 1992 Sandown 500.
According to the following link - No Nissan GT-R's 'period', competed in the 1992 Sandown 500.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Don%27t_Drink_Dr ive_Sandown_500
2 GTR's that should be considered are the 'co-driver' #2 Gibson GTR's frm 1991 & 1992.
#2 1991 Drew Price/Garry Waldon -Skaife set the fastestlap of the race with it
#2 1992 Neil Crompton/Anders Oloffson - claimed a podium with 3rd.
The 1992 GTR, being a Winfield one, would warrent a higher production number, but the 1991 would probably be like the Skaife Adelaide Rollover car, with a limited to 504.
well, there raises more questions then! :D

Neither the Winfield or GIO cars ran Sandown. This was all part of the weight penalty the cars had lumped on them during the ATCC. The cars were homologated at 1250kg but CAMS in their wisdom(??) decided that they should be 1500kg.
Gibson and Forbes the extra 250kg (how many bags of cement?) was making the cars dangerously unsafe. Gibson tried both directly to CAMS and the legal system to get the CAMS decision overturned. Neither was successful.
The court case was only finalised about two weeks before Bathurst.
On top of the weight, I am sure they also had the turbo boost limit lowered.

They certainly did Mal - boost was restricted and the cars were hit with heavy weight penalties (excuse the pun).
As for Skylines still to be made, I'd say we may have cooked our goose. I can't see that any more will be made, even though the GIO Bathurst car would be good as would the Skaife ATCC 1991 season car. All new releases should probably be 504 pieces as I'm not sure the market could take 1,008 of each of these ones.
Given everyone's valid opinions, it will be interesting to see Biante / Richard's response.
I used to lurk on the CC forums, and when answers were given from them - they were very vanilla responses that got nowhere.
When QC issues were brought up - they didnt want to know about it. Classic case - XC Moffat Bathurst Cobra and the continual 1/18 BF Falcon issues.

There are currently no more GT-R's on the schedule but the tooling is still there so never say never. Give it time and the others will be considered. No guarantees but we're alway open to suggestions.
Besides, after the current run I think GT-R collectors would be happy with a breather for a while.
thanks for your quick response Richard.
Yes, I am happy. I went from 2 GT-Rs to 9 GT-Rs in the space of 4-6 months :D:D

Yep,never get tired of seeing the footage of Richo going nuts and picking off the Sierra's one by one!

I think the 1990 Bathurst car would be a good addition. I also think that Biante could steal the march and if they did a 24 Hr Spa winner, the international collectors would go mad for that one - provided there was adequate distribution internationally. The Japanese and Europeans would like that one.
Richard, I am personally happy for the breather. in fact, I'd be happy for there to be a prolonged period between these and any new ones you do (but please do release new ones at a later time).

Hello all -
I haven't posted in awhile, so I apologize profusely if this question has already been asked (a cursory search did not turn up anything).
Is anyone considering converting a '92 Richards ATCC into a '92 Bathurst winner? My winners collection is complete, except for the '92. Like many others, I cannot justify $800 or so to complete the collection with the real deal.
Just wondered what all it would take. At least now we don't have to consider a repaint.
Thanks in advance!

Think it would not be too hard to do and worth it considering the quality difference in the two molds.
- The ATCC sticker above the number replaced with a Tooheys 1000 one
- A CAMS logo behind the front wheel arch
- The RICHARDS taken off the window replaced with SKAIFE and RICHARDS in capitals and with flags next to their names.
Im sure there are other smaller changes but those would be the major ones.
