hey guys, i read somewhere that there were some f1 models produced with the real tobacco sponsers underneath the actual ones on the car... for instance, the B&H cars.

Dont know about F1, but i do recall photos on the web a few years ago with the Porsche 956 where "Rothmans" was printed under the "Racing" logos that were on the model (I cant remember the brand or scale).

Also, the early Onyx 1/43 F1s came in various versions; those with the proper Marlboro, Camel etc and those without. And some of the Onyx Silk Cut Jaguars came with the tobacco decals taped inside the box for you to apply yourself.

Yeh, the 1/18 Minichamps '83 Le Mans Winner had the naughty words hidden under "Racing' decals

There are decals around to do these jobs as I've done quite a few myself and have just ordered decals to do another 6 cars.
The Senna first win in 1:18 and his Williams came direct from Minichamps with 'proper' signage as I have both these cars.
Also, many of the exoto cars carry correct signage for the times.

This was a one off situation with Minichamps as they had already produced the models in 1:18 and also 1:43 3 car set with the correct logos but had not released them to the shops when Rothmans pulled the authorisation for the use of their brand. To avoid having to scrap the models (or at the very least repaint/tampo) the whole run Minichamps did a quick and dirty fix with the Racing labels, which many collectors found very easy to remove. To the extent that I suspect it is much harder to find a Racing version than the other. :)

Spark and Bizarre also have supplied decals taped top the bottom for cars with licencing problems. eg Lucky Strike Mazda 757s.
