Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, couldn't find it.

I found this footage of 1969 Bathurst on youtube-

1JJq9t66JVA

interesting in regards to the angle of the crash and also that it is in colour. All the official vision I have seen including DVD releases is always in Black & White and also the crash is not in any of them either.

Does anyone know what source this film comes from? Thanks.

That is interesting. It dosent match any footage i have on dvd.Looks like it was taken on 8mm film(what else was available then)by a private punter. He was a pretty good camera man.

I'd say that's a compilation of a couple of cameras' worth of amateur footage. And well done too!

The stuff from the top has short gaps in it - that would be from winding up the camera's mechanism (they ran on clockwork, would you believe?) I have a 16mm movie camera of about this vintage.

Given that Seven dumped all their stuff, footage like this is becoming increasingly rare and important. Those DVDs that Chevron did are mostly using newsreel footage for the earlier races - up to 1977 or so, anyway.

I have a slide from that angle as well of the roll over.

The footage is from the film "The Racing Geoghegans"

It also includes some good colour stuff from an Oran Park 'Toby Lee Series' event, with Leo in a Pacer.

I've actually arranged to view the Channel 7 '69 race footage at Mediatheque at ACMI at Federation Square.

When I 've watched I post whether it is worth the trip to Fed Square.

No idea how long it goes for. But the catalog details states "highlights".

I am booked in to watch it next Monday.

After work today I went to the ACMI at Federation Square, Melbourne, to watch the Channel Seven highlights of the 1969 Hardie Ferodo 500.

Disappointingly the first minute or so of the master tape is damaged so the start and the run to Hell Corner is badly obscured. However the footage from that point forward is similar in quality to say the '73 Highlights.

The commentators were William (very formal) Hagon, Norm Bennel, Evan Green and Geoff Stone.

Eight cameras appeared to be used. Two along Pit Straight, one at the entrance to Hell Corner, one at McPhillimay Park, one in the Esses just above the Dipper, two (barely a few metres apart) at Forrest's Elbow and one in the pits. So meant there was no coverage from the crest of Mountain Straight to McPhillamy Park. Not such an issue for a highlights package but would have made for some tedious viewing watching it live.

The multi-car crash causes some confusion as no camera can see the over Skyline. The vision is of the mid field and tail enders running into the back of each other. Some vision is shown of the cars being repaired in the pits, including the Alan Cant Capri.

Other than some other crashes, including the Seton / Gibson roll over, the highlights skip past much of the opening laps. The highlights from lap 88 onwards tell a better story of what is going on - although Bruce McPhee's last pit stop is not shown.

The IBM computer with the on screen print-out makes a couple of appearances.

Bond's last lap is shown only from the second hump on Conrod to the finish line. There is an interview with Bond after the race.

The closing credits show spectator cars driving down the mountain. Many names in the credits, such as Doug Hampson would become familiar to fans during the 70's and 80's.

I did enjoy watching the race, the sound of the Falcons and Monaros is awesome even with '60 TV technology and you can't beat the price - free.

And before anyone asks, I did enquire about a copy, but you have to prove an direct relationship to the footage to get a copy.

It was well worth the trip.

My next visit will be to watch the '74 Highlights.

Thanks for the review Chavez, looks like it was worthwhile viewing. Was the footage in colour or B+W by the way?

Thanks for the insight. How long did it go for?

I guess if it exists, it is likely that it will reach the public either officially or unofficially in good time.
