hi guys,

as i my title states, i want to paint the wheels on my r35gtr black (as i prefer the autoart 1:18 over the kyosho BUT the autoart has silver wheels)

what paint should i get for the best finish...aerosol can or paint brush?

what is the best way to remove the wheels without breaking anything or is it best i leave them on?

thanks guys

I would use Tamiya Smoke colour spray TS-71 spray.

You wont want to get any paint on the brake rotors so if you arent sure how to take the wheels off I'd be taking off the tyres (which is easy enough) and using plenty of masking tape.

Therare a few threads discussing wheel removal. Usually the fronts are easy and just come off with a gentle but firm pull (dont force them thogh), its the back ones that are hard.

I'm thinking a lick of some tamiya primer might be worthwhile too...

Place Car in Freezer overnight , then pry Wheels off VERY CAREFULLY using either a Knife or a Screwdriver

marko to elaborate on why singer suggested that is because on the models when you freeze them the glues turn very brittle and "snap" off with little effot

good luck

Won't that wreck the rest of the car that have glued parts...

If your not very confident at it I wouldn't bother.

where is the glue used to hold the wheels?

I thought the wheel hub would be pressed onto a plastic shaft which has a split ball joint on the end...does that make sense?

Without going though the thread either, there could be something in here about wheel removal???

nah its all good the glue will go brittle on the whole car but....

only the parts you try to remove will come off with a "snap" to them the other parts will be fine if you dont try to remove them once the model comes back to temperature

If your afraid of removing the wheels, Mask up the tyres and paint the wheels using Tamiya X-19 smoke.

Better yet, and as per my above post #4, take OFF the tyres and mask the rest. Dont forget the rotors behind the rims though.

i might just leave the wheels as they are...although i did see a kyosho version which had jet black wheels and rear wing, gloss finish - it looked very tough and sleathy on the silver body

ok - so ive studied how the wheels are attached to the discs & they seem to sit inside the wheel hub

once i pop out the wheels, will they click back into place as im guessing this is the case? if i had to glue them back into place the wheels would not spin
