Kids - The ultimate arch enermy of the diecast car. My 20 month old got into my cabinet and grabbed my 79BW. I was lucky in that she did not do any real damage apart from clean rip the driver side door off.

Now the help question, especially for those who have stripped these models before, how do I get it back on.

It looks like there is a metal bar that appears to be screwed in by a phillips head screw that needs to be undone in order to put the door back on. However the screw is behind the door panel.

I did not want to force the door back on in fear of actually damaging it. I tried to pull the door panel off but it appears to be fixed on solid, and again I did not want to force anything.

Anyone know the procedure to put the door back on?????

Any advise welcomed.

Unfortunately, I think this requires a full strip to do it properly. That way you'll have adequate access to the sections you need. I don;t see how the door could come off without something actually being broken or at least cracked. If the hinge has just popped out from behind the plastic you are a very lucky man indeed.

I'm sure somebody who has had experience with the A9X's will help you in more detail. If not, blue-tak is your friend (at least in the short term)

This is just my opinion but a good way to learn about how to pull them apart or fix it would be to buy a cheaper A9X such as the Grice Craven Mild one that is maybe damaged and pull it apart first and see what the broken part is made up of. If you break anything while pulling it apart, it doesn't matter as its not a $400 model. Then, pull the 79 BW apart, making sure you don't break anything, find out what the go is with the damage and then if its a hinge or something, you can replace it with a part from the cheaper model.
Then, just sell the cheap A9X on ebay for say $70 and get say 50% of your money back. Or for something different, code 3 it and end up with a unique, personalised model.
Cheers,
Thomas

the best way i know of on how to get the door back on is to very carefully lever off the interior door trim by going around the outside with a fine screwdriver until it comes off (sometimes this will break the pins but it gets glued back on after so not to big an issue)once this is off you will see a small screw holding down a metal plate, loosen this and the door will go back over the hinge pin on the car then you have to tighten the screw up again which isnt allways easy depending on what size screw drivers you have (i have a small phillips head about 25mm long that fits inside the door frame)once the screw is tight carefully glue the interior trim back onto the door and thats it door fixed

hope this helps mrmavx aka wayne m

ps damage if you open the door to far and keep pushing the will popoff the hinge bar nearly every time with this type off hinge.

Thanks - That's what I thought. The hinge is not damaged, the door is not damaged either. It looks to have simply popped off.

I can see the metal plate you speak about, but the interior door skin is on tight, I did not want to force it but agree maybe I will have to break the pins inorder to get to the screw. I have a good set of fine screw drivers so having the right tools is not the issue, I just did not want to break the door skin. But agree once glued back on no one will be the wiser if the lugs are broken off.

The door trim has to come off, then it will reveal the small metal hinge spring that was spoken about.
The screw that holds the hinge spring on (also tension adjustment for door) needs to be unscrewed to a point where the other half of the hinge which is attached to the inner door jam on the body will push back under the spring. The screw may have to be fully unscrewed to do this.
This screw should be able to be reached with a long small tip phillips head screw driver through from the other side of the car, but will be very awkward.
The best method would be to remove the chassis and interior, which will give a lot better access to the screw and also give you the chance to check to other door as well.

Hope this helps you out.
