Hello everyone,

I am wondering if I may get some assistance please?

I am an avid model builder, and wish to make a 1:18 scale model of Ian "Pete" Geoghegan's 1964 ATCC winning Cortina. (I am aware that Biante are producing a 1:43 scale one)

I have seen conflicting references that state it was a GT and others that it was a Lotus-Cortina. Pardon my "numpty" question (I know Mustangs, not Cortinas), but what was the difference?

I have some grainy photos from Autopics, but that is all. I am after any photos, or other appropriate references re fittings and internal / external colours. All submissions would be for private use only and are not for any commercial enterprise.

Any help is gratefully accepted.

Have a great week.

Hey Dave, Lotus Cortinas we're an English made car fitted with a Lotus developed twin cam head, while the GTs & GT500s we're an Australian Harry Firth built Bathurst special OHV motor. Thats a very broad definition, I'm sure someone else on here would know more.

The Geoghegan's originally started the year racing a 4 door GT. Destroyed it at Oran Park. Ford provided them with a replacement 2 door GT that was used at Lakeside. Remember the ATCC back then was a one race affair, not a season of races.

Photos show the car to have the normal GT (not GT500) grill/bumpers/chrome strips. Car exterior was black. Had a three colour stripe running from the leading edge of the bonnet to the Cortina badge on the bonnet only. Was, running right to left, blue/white/red.

The GT 500 versions would only be run at Bathurst as the rules governing the two races were different.

It looks like later in the year the Geoghegans received a Lotus version from the UK.
