Hi guys i'm looking at buying a 92 Bathurst Winning Skyline, and i was wondering how do I tell the difference between a Code 3 and the real thing, as i have seen a lot of code 3's for sale lately. Also how many of the real model were made.

Thanks

The code3 is the new Autoart mould and the original is the old Kyosho model.

Original box and certificate should be a giveaway. Also, look at the exhaust, If it has a big gold box muffler, then it would be the new version and therefore a code3.

The Code 3 has the correct rims.

The real R32 92 BW has got some weird looking rims.

And the Bathurst winner will cost 3-4 times the amount of the Code 3.

So im looking for a car without a gold muffler, would it have Kyosho stamped on it somewhere. I realise that it will have a different box and COA, but it wouldn't be imposable to have an original box and COA and put a code 3 in the box and call it the real deal.

Thanks for the tips.

Why would you want to put a code 3 into an original box?

I'm just being overly cautious that i am buying a real 92 Winner and not something shonky. I've just had a bad experience recently with a seller, as you can see here http://forums.biante.com.au/showthread.php?t=14216 Just making sure that i don't have any more issues as there are some dishonest people around, not that I think this is the case with the item I'm looking at. I just want to be 100% sure that I'm getting what i want, as it is most likely the most expensive model that i will buy.

Why would you want to put a code 3 into an original box? People probably would to make a quick $600 profit from the code 3.;)
Just find a pic of a real deal 1:18 92 BW and compare it to aything on ebay. Theres some noticable differences. Like Ed said, the Rims are different and would be the biggest give away.

Do your research and study the differences between the models and you should be right.

OK. The real deal has molded on the bottom on the chassis rail KYOSHO and on the other 1/18 NISSAN GTR SKYLINE MADE IN CHINA. Also stamped on the bottom in silver is SCALE 18 MODEL CARS as well as in gold NISSAN SKYLINE GTR Bathurst Winner 1992'. Hope that helps

What stands out immediately is that the genuine Bathurst winner does not have an aerial.

Also the window names will be painted on the original, the code 3 will have decals.

Something to look for might be a mention of "Code 3" in the listing...

To alleviate some of your concerns, I have taken pictures of the 92 BW box and the clam shell.

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/156/img0153lq.jpg (http://img44.imageshack.us/i/img0153lq.jpg/)

Also, I tested to see whether a Auto Art GTR will fit into a Kyosho clam shell box (I used the 1991 Gibbs/Onslow car).

Dale, the good news is the Auto Art car will not fit into Kyosho box. The tow clip at the front is too long and I don't think the cars are identical in size.

So dont worry, no one will use a 92 BW Kyosho box.

With all the information everyone has provided you, you can buy in peace now. I appreciate you caution as it sucks to be burned...

Thanks for taking the time to do that edy, I really appreciate it. And a big thanks to everyone else who has given me advice. This has to be the most helpful forum that I'm a member of.

no worries good luck in finding one.

you may care to ring Gateway Models in Brisbane

http://gatewaymodels.com.au/prod31.htm

They may have one, but it will cost you $700....

The quality on the Kyosho is so so. The one I bought from Gateway was cloudy and it needed a real good polish to bring it back to life!
