G'day all,
I attended the 1st Australian Motorsport Show in Melbourne yesterday (Saturday) & I was wondering what peoples opinions were of the show.

My opinion was that it was a show that promised a lot, but actually delivered very little. Read on for why.

I went solely to see the new DJR Falcon's & HRT's new VY's which were promiced to be inattendance by Lisa Skaife (show organiser who spent quite a lot of time promoting it on the V8 forum on www.conrod.com.au) & they wern't there (I know this may have been beyond her control).

There appeared to be quite a lot of empty space (upstairs was closed off) & a number of the displays comprised of a few pictures on a wall & a guy sitting at a card table (John Bowe institute of driving for example).

Perhaps my expertations were too high as I expected it to be like the motorshows old that were held at this venue, where the place was packed to the rafters.

Maybe I was simpy disapointed by DJR having a AU instead of the Barra race car (they did have a std Red XR8 Barra on show) that everything else was simply a let down.

Possibly it was the 2 hr drive from Gippsland (after I had gone to pick up my girlfriend & telling her she had to come with me to see Dick's new Falcons) to get there & no DJR Barra Racers, followed by the constant reminding of this fact could have played on my opinion of the event.

The basis of the show was great, Motec had a great display & it was great to see the 24hr winning Monaro & the HRT 427. The merchandise displays were average & extreamly over priced (except for Subaru where I got their 2003 callendar for $5 - great pics of possum & the team), but you kind of expect that these days (they tend to cash in on bunnys who are once a year visitors to motorsport & taken them for a ride eg. all DVD's $39.95 & VHS 29.95).

Would I go next year ???

For $15ea entry I'd proberly give it a miss & perhaps go again in 2005 if its still going. For mine, there tended to be very little on show for the price considering what we see at the annual motor show for simular dollars.

I'm keen to hear other collects opinions on this one.

cheers.
