A mate who spent alot of his time at Jonespeed in the late 70's to the mid 80's has just completed a 1:18 scale of the Amaroo Park 1982 CRC 300 winning RX-7 driven by Barry Jones and Allan Jones ( yes the F1 champ).

The car started out as a plain black race car , then it was totaly stripped painted and modifyied/detailed.

here are some pics.

thanks, it is a very high level model,(the pics were taken by phone and they don't do the model any justice) this guy is a very talented model builder plus he has 100+ 1:18 scale models in his collection mainly race cars.

He is hoping CC or Biante is not going to produce this exact model as he spen alot of money and time on this!

That really is outstanding. As you said your phone pics didn't do the model justice, any chance of getting pics from a proper camera?

It was a Darrell lea mascot of the 80's.

It was freehandedly drawn from old racecar photos, then scanned and re created on a pc then printed / created as a vinyl and fitted up to the model.

The decal kit for this model cost a fortune and it was very time consuming.

I am not sure if people would buy a model like this for $1000?

Ten hours at a hundred bucks, including materials - that's not that expensive.

I wouldn't pay it - would prefer to do it myself (although I'd rather a Terry Shiel version).

But that's a great job - well done.

Great stuff! Is he going to do any other Jonespeed cars? Any chance I could get in contact with him, as I own an old Jonespeed Gp C RX7 that he would have worked on.

which car have you got?

As jonespeed only built 2 cars, the model car(which had a colour change for the 84 bathurst) and the slick 50 car.

The ghostbuters car only got a jonespeed engine for 84 bathurst it wasn't built by them.

I thought Peter McLeod built the chassis for his cars & BJ did the running gear. Although there was two or three cars.

Was the Jones car that got the bbq treatment at Amaroo in 81 rebuilt?

McLeod had 2 from mem, the first one went to Ernie Carinello (Spelling) in Canberra circa 83....
