Am in two minds at the moment as the demise of the sports cars is a big problem for me.
Would need to be some pretty special open wheel cars to make me trek down (I know F-5000 will be there but not how many).
Might try for one day but can't see me doing much more than that as the meeting has lost a fair bit of it's interest for me.

40+ F5000s.
Groups C and A
Some very special Alfa-Romeos.
That's enough for me!
I love the big-banger sporties as well, but there's just not room in the program for everything.

Amon fan you can't miss Kenny in action, he gets quicker in the F5000 each year.
he is great to catch up with looking foward to the AGP to see him again, after Ruapuna and Pukekohoe a couple of weeks ago.
he is building up a Lola T332 for next year thinks it should be quick the the T430.

Young Moxo, 35 F5000's entered, im not sure if that includes the F1's or not, as im not sure if P, Q and R are racing, they are on the entry form...
There is a Martini 935 coming over from the Porsche Museum so thats pretty cool..
Bob Holden celebrates 60 years of motor racing...
An Aston Martin DB3S
2 Godzilla's in a 25 car grid of Grp C and A...

There were 20 plus at Ruapuna back in Jan, went up to Puke there were 28 or so, they had alot more at Hampton Downs the week before.
Amon Fan, I have a photo of Kenny and I taken in 1976 when I was 11, now we have a photo of Kenny and Jordan (my son) taken last year when he was 11. both signed.
He is one of the few people that you talk to that you carry on the conversation from the last time you meet.

Thats awesome Tony... be good if he ended up in the car Andrew Robson races here, as its Kenny's car from 1976. I spotted some pics on the net of David Oxton having a run in the old Begg FM5, they looked fairly recent....
Now you have me thinking about Allan McCully ;)

Amon Fan, I was talking to him about his old 332, he told me it was in Australia. He has bought one ex USA and should have it ready for next season.
Not sure where David Oxton was driving the FM5,
Next years Festival of Speed will feature Chris Amon's career.

Not sure where David Oxton was driving the FM5,
IIRC he did a few demo laps during the legends parade at HD. Not sure if he repeated at Puke. The photo though does not look like either of those.
Next years Festival of Speed will feature Chris Amon's career.
Told Jim Barclay at HD that he had better hold Marcus Pye to his claim about persuading the owner of the FA-1 and the owner of several Matras to come down. With that and maybe a P4 it would be a perfect weekend.
Cheers

Grease, the BRM has a large wing over the roll cage, so u'll have trouble measuring the cage anyway ;) The driver gets in via a hatch on said wing.....

No sarcasm. Just remembered you telling me she was giving you the eye when you returned her sister. Was just making sure to remind you that although you burnt one bridge, another was in the wings.:)

from what i can tell tony i think the lot of us are going on saturday
I'm staying with Chris 'cause he got me first. Sister or no sister.
But we should (hopefully) all sit down somewhere on Saturday evening and have a yarn - anyone up for that?
I'll probably be running about like a mad thing once I'm at the track - need to take lots of photos and take notes, talk to people (ew - racing drivers - yuck).
Bringing every stitch of clothing I own - I've been to the last three PI historics and seen about 27 seasons.
Anyhoo, I'm still coming - I hope - there's a small drama at this end to sort out.
Anyway...

20-03-2010, 02:31 PM
Didn't notice that Mike - he did too. Well I would argue that's preferable, although when I dug deeper Gibson did run with tobacco warning at the Sandown round of the ATCC (not Sandown 500 as they didn't compete) as well as the Wanneroo round. However if he wanted it as it ran at Bathurst then removing them was the right thing to do.
I also think he should remove the large Gibson Motorsport logo on the side of the car too as it didn't run like that.
So Mike, you missed today at the Island because of dessert? ;)
I'm hoping David, Laz and Smokey can throw some pics up here tonight.

Andrew, the car does not represent either as it was at Bathurst or the ATCC. If he wants it to be the ATCC car, then remove the names from the front guard and add one to the rear side windows, and take the number and white square off the roof.

On Sunday at the meet, myself and smokey_dj ran into Chris (I think it was, no good with names) from Biante and we had a good old chat about all different bits and pieces and he seemed a real nice bloke. He did not try to snob us off at all as the three of us spoke for about 3/4 of an hour or something and only went when his friend called him after he called once and Chris said speak to you in 1/2 hour and hung up. That is putting customers first in a very nice way and not to many companies (the staff) would do that. So to chris if that was your name a big THANK YOU for doing that today it was very nice of you to do that.

It was good to meet you guys and moxo, i hope I didn't seem rude when we spoke and I had to go but in a small team it's all hands to work. I did my fasts lap for the weekend on the last lap of the weekend so I guess I was getting used to the Dunlop tyres in the end although I think my personal best at P I is a 1:48.@@@?
Still haven't looked at the pics yet moxo, as I explained at the track my laptop is so old I think it was originally bought from "Waltons"
good to catch up with you all, see at Muscle Car in Sept?

Great to meet you all Saturday night- Brad thanks very much for your hospitality.
I have tons of pics- just gotta get around to uploading them- of course mostly datto's but hey..........
The new owner of Seto's skyline was over the moon with their results - they have had a couple of dramas leading up to it. And how was Terry Ashwood's drive in the last race in the Winfield GT-R? Gave it a good run that's for sure.

So Mike, you missed today at the Island because of dessert? ;)
I'm hoping David, Laz and Smokey can throw some pics up here tonight.
we use to paint the winfield honda superbikes back then, and i remember the warning stickers on the bikes and even the race team uniform had warning stickers on them too.

WOW what a full on w.e that was and it started on thurs night!!!!
Bruce turned up at our place about 9 and instantly fitted straight in with the family and we were all sorry to see him go he took me under his wing for this w.e with my entry to the track as his guest and a media pass all w.e which i abused very well :D
on friday heading down after out 7am start i knew really nothing of the historics and by the end of the day my head was spinning and i could start to identify cars and learnt so much new info but it was all fantastic i stuck to bruce like glue on the first day so i could really soak it all in it was great getting to places inside the track such as down siberia in the 2nd flaggies hut and round at the first flaggies hut where i had a strange run in with the #20 roadways torri driver
he came to greif right infront of me pulled the car up driverside facing me standing only the tire barrier away he got out climbed up over the barrier looked at me i looked at him sad "bloody things got no oil pressure" then kept on walking lol then came back and chatted to me while the rest of the session went on br he was recovered.
earlier in the day bruce and i came across NIVOLA (thats who you were thinking of wayne it was Ray not Chris) and then had a bit of a chat about quite alot of things and no he wouldnt give away trade secrets i tried to trip him up but hes a cluey lil bloke :p and that was about it for day 1 (friday)

DAY 2
back up again for a very early start down the to track stuck with bruce again for a lil bit in the mronign till wayno and leigh got down to the track then had a nice brisk walk from the inside of honda to the outside of siberia!!!! and stuck around with them for pretty much the rest of the day learning more and more (when i could understand waynes info through his enthusiastic passion lol) then at one stage i jumped in the car with leigh to go and finally meet david and catch up with laz always good to see you mate and glad to have met you dave then at the end of the day we were spose to org fish n chips in san remo but ended up at brads place instead which was a brilliant night and great to meet angel and motivate and have a really good chat lot of laughs to be had that night (just ask bruce about how far he can shoot a ping pong ball :p)
got home quite late on saturday and both of us really crashed out fast

DAY 3
stuck with bruce for abit again in the morn b4 wondering off to have a good look in my own time at a few things i was interested in but didnt know much about then it didnt take long b4 i got a call from grease to catch up and we hung out together for a few solid hours having a look at what was happening and meeting david towe we shot the breeze for about an hour with david till he had to start getting a few things sorted out pre race and mate in no way did we find you rude or anything thought you were a top bloke tbh and i think you have a new fan :p
after that we crossed paths with Bob Jane which almost ended up in ROUND 2!!!!!! and as ive just remembered i left out a good storry about saturday...
Friday night i ended up at that "protest" about easternats but left with irene shortly after 11 (b4 it got nasty) for those who know me know i have a car that would blend in with that crowd but after seeing all the different nationalities there i thought hell this is going to end like noble park maccas riot a few yrs ago so we left and even irene and i copped some flack from the crowd as we left anyway....
i heard over the p.a that Bob Jane was in pitlane so i thought right im going to go see if i can get the storry about what it got canned from him and explain that the tyre shop was never meant to be the target on fri night
instead the lil (for the sake of the language filter) SO AND SO started arking up and b4 you knew it i was tow to tow with this old coot on pit lane having a shouting match (will go down as a great memory in my life)
now to move on from the bad wayne and i were walking along when we spotted Jimmy Richards so i said im going to not go bag the sprint model but ask if he knew about what was happening with it and if he had an opinion he said he really likes it didnt have 1 himself yet and was suprised to hear about the decal issue with it we didnt dive too deep into it cause i didnt want to upset the apple cart more than it is atm with Chris and also Jim but he was curious to come on here to see whats been said as he asked "where can i find whats being said about the model"
now to move on to the good and how i earnt my new nickname of "woolworths" on saturday night there was dinner with kev bartlett and Sir Jack as special guests and again a special lunch on sunday
after the lunch they had a signed session for Sir Jack and as i went upto where the lunch was being packed up for i said the the security guard they need the Sir Jack sign down to the signing session so he handed it to me i got it signed then dissapeered it rather quickly (it was finishe with for the w.e btw) so that to and shaking the great mans hand will also be a life memory for me
so in summing up all in all a great w.e met quite a few new ppl from the forum and im still yet to meet a bad one :D
in summing up id really like to thank brad for the hospitality on saturday night and bruce for showing me something i had my eyes completly shut to was a pleasure having you stay with us and your welcome anytime
also to david towe appreciate the thumbs up in pit lane as you got out for the race and i watched every lap from the pit walls then as you know came to say hello after the race and scored part of the front spoiler off the HIGHWAY PATROL sponsored vl groupA SS which Adrian happily signed for me :D
and 1 more thing to sean i think wayne and i are bad luck for ya buddy walk down to say hello and suddenly everyone crashes and your put under the pump

David get some sleep one day. You were not rude at all as how many drivers that are racing on a w.e. would drop everything and talk to 2 people they have never met before for around an hour it was unexpected from me as I understand it is so called a small operation and all hands need to be on deck some times.

Nothing worse than you probably already do. Hey, why aren't you playing at the Grand Prix with him?
I generally steward or COC several lower level motorsport events, so for many, don't get to see what goes on, whilst Sean can.
For me, there are too many who only do F1's and high exposure days. I am a BIG believer in the theory that grassroots motorsport is where it's appreciated. No club sprints = no drivers then going onto state/national level.
Don't get me wrong, i think it's great the amount of volunteers we have at the big events- and for some that's what they want to do. Me? I like kicking back and enjoying those as a punter and knowing just about every entrant by name and being able to pull up a pew and have a chat.
Besides, i have just given him crapola on his nice orange overalls he has to wear........... ;)

I am blown away by the photos you all got. Just stunning. I am also gutted not to have attended when the #1 Winfield and GIO GT-R were both racing. PLUS, to see Moffat's RX-7 as well nearly brings me to tears that I couldn't make it.
If any of you guys (ie. Mike, Brad, Bortall, Angel, Moxo etc) are willing to send/email copies of your images of the GT-Rs in their original resolution to me for my personal drooling consumption I'd be incredibly grateful and can guarantee they would never be shared or copied.... I can't get enough pics of these vehicles every time they make an appearance.
I really wish I could have met up with guys like Mike, Brad and Wayne again and also caught up with Bruce, David and Smokey as well. And for those that know, the reason I couldn't make the PI Historics still has not arrived itself.... Ahhh, c'est la vie.

That'd be George in the 32 Ford, in his 80's at least...we have spoken about him before on the car museums thread, his model railway and car museum in The Basin will be open for visitors in April IIRC

Was great to catch up with a few of you on Saturday night as quite a few laughs where had not to mention the human lubricants that were consumed . Chris, no need to worry about causing me work on the Sunday we were starting to get a bit bored as only towed three in for the day and those two in quick succession got us moving.
Hopefully at another event in the future we can organise something similar in the way of a get together so that names can be put to faces and names....!!!

[quote=Angel;391044]This blew me when away when they were telling the story on it..................
Which story? I couldn't hear the PA when they were talking about it. I know it's one of the team cars from 1950 and helped win the first ever World Championship.
Moxo
They were giving the shpeil on it. it took them a while to start it with all the procedures they go through. It is THE fangio car (I thought from 1951). A team of 20 come with it. It's insured for (i think)a cool 20 million USD. A friend was telling me that the bloke that "oversees" it, was quite ill some time back and if he cannot see it loaded on the plane, the car doesn't go anywhere. So it nearly didn't make it, and allegedy they ferried the fellow by ambulance to the airport so he could see it loaded. since then he has recovered and flew out. Dunno how much of it is true, but sounds good nevertheless.
I knew the driver wouldn't exactly dawdle around but he sure didn't hang around in it !
