March 18, 2010: Ford has just unveiled its new concept design for a Taurus-based police vehicle to be employed in 2011.

Im unsure if we are allowed to post this sort of thing as its not youtube but there is an ad first.

From what I have heard not alot of love for it compared to the Chevy Caprice concept.

I'd rather the Ford Crown US Police car replacement be an American car.
Either the Ford Taurus or Dodge Charger would fit the bill.

I don't think the 'Statesman' Chevy Caprice stands a chance.
Holden should export the Ute to the US as the revived El Camino instead of pinning thier hopes on the Caprice disaster.

The Taurus features a turbocharged 3.5 litre V6 that pumps out as many neddies as the Caprice's 6.0 litre V8, but has what I would consider to be a further driveability advantage for Police duties in the form of All Wheel Drive.

The Caprice has one clear advantage on the other two cars and that is in regard to interior and boot (trunk) space.

Maintenance on turbos cars are costly. Especially ones that are thrashed by police!!!!

Cops in the USA tend to keep their cars for ages so I dunno how the AWD drivetrain will go.

Simple is always best - rear wheel drive with a V8 motor!!!

I don't know why it has to be an american car? Any export for Holden is good for them and the aussie economy. The Caprice cop car had alot of well though out details and i reckon it would be an excellent police car.

You have kinda answered your own question, many other boards I visit, American ones are very much buy American made this and that, very very very patriotic. The caprice maybe a good car but the best thing about the ford in most Americans eyes is that it is American made, so it would be helping their economy. You would think there would be outrage if the Australian police forces used all imported police cars when Australian manfactures have the capabilities.

Correct. Especially rear passenger space.
... when you're loading a couple of 6'5" brothers from the hood into the back, you want room ! ;)

I get what you're saying and i agree with you, i was curious why SWRT speciffically would rather it be an american car rather than what the american people wanted.

because if the americans found out the Chev Caprice is an australian made car (if its chosen), they would be outraged, Chev_350 is spot on with his response with why they would be outraged.
But I remember on a episode of Tog Gear Australia, where one of the host when to America and drove a Pontiac G6, and asked yanks where they though it was from, they had no idea i was a Holden Commodore, I assume most people are hoping the yanks still keep that naive attitude is the Caprice wins the contract.

As an illustration of who knows where what comes from, the Pontiac G6 was a product of the USA ... perhaps you are referring to the Pontiac G8 ?

I'm pretty sure that the US police departments and government agencies are aware that the Chevrolet Caprice is an import, but then so are a number of other "US brand" cars.

OK. Personally i don't give a rats if the yanks are outraged about an Aussie car being their next cop car. Better for Holden, better for Oz.
I reckon you're spot on about them not knowing where their cars come from though, the American general public aren't the brightest kids in class. Don't tell them its from Oz and i bet they think its the greatest cop car ever.
Unfortunately, if they found out its not from the USA there would probably be outrage regardless of the fact that it might very well be the superior product.

At least the engine will be yankee built:D

Dunno why they'd have a problem......the yanks buy more Japanese etc cars than American cars these days:D

I'm pretty sure that the Gen IV (Vortec) V8 engines are only manufactured at the GM Canada plant at St Catherines, Ontario ... perhaps 'Designer' can confirm ?

... apart from those u-beaut LS7 donks - as per the HSV W427 - that are hand-assembled at the Performance Build Centre in Detroit.

yes, but most of them are actually made in North American plants.

Yeap the "Japanese cars" are built in America, yet many American cars are built in Canada or Mexico, I'd find a list, but I am on my iPhone.

The Taurus for the record is made in Illinois
