Lets have some thought or opinions regarding this event by forum members who follow this throught the years.
1. Is there something happening for the people that cannot go to this event ,i.e. a pub or club that is having a get together to watch the racing?
It seems that the event is not on as the news:confused: that we get here in Perth is all about AFL,Crickets stars on who has eaten what and what smell their flactulations are but nought on this world event.
this is the same for another world event that is on here in Perth;
Worldchampionships of skeet/claytarget shooting for teams
It has never been as much as mentioned cause it must be Poly incorrect. there are world leading teams ,men and woman, here in Perth battling it out but not a peep.
BIANTE are the importers of MINICHAMPS and other F1 diecastbrands after all.

Hi Bert, I had been planning to put a similar post on the forum. Does anyone know of somewhere in Perth that will show the race on a big screen TV where forum members can get together for the afternoon, watch the races (V8's & F1) and have a drink or two. Anyone else interested in getting together for an unofficial 'Biante' party ?

Well I do have a big screen TV and plenty of room so if forum members do not wreck the joint it can be at my place if desired.
One issue is that we have a coulpe of cats i.e. alergy.

Two weeks out and NOT a word !!! not even seen an ad?? One could be forgiven if they miss the opening of the worlds top level form of motorsport.Hopefully some of the drivers maybe spotted holidaying in Australia....causing some interest????

Been plenty of mention over here, mostly because Mark Webber is a Queanbeyan boy (small hamlet just over the border, known locally as "Struggletown") and the local media outlets have been following his fortunes . On the news tonight was the arrival of Ferrari, Minardi & BAR in Melbourne. Jag has been there for a little while.

Here in Newcastle on the east coast i have seen a few ads but they are on SBS after Pizza is finished and so most of the viewers have normally changed the channel. Not the best marketing ploy. However, i will be attending the GP and ill have my camera handy to take photos of all the V8's, Nations Cup, FFords and Porsche Carrera's. Also a word of advice for those attending - the national support paddock is a MUST SEE area! You can just stand right next to v8's, Nations Cup and the drivers always seem quite happy to sign things. A really great event:)

Personally, I'll be getting the digital projector as my family always get together to watch the GP's !!!
On the advertising note other than the little bit I've seen on sports tonight the advertising has been pathetic !!!
Has anyone seen those 'world according to F1' ads ???
They are terrible !!!!
Personally, I can't wait to see Race 1 of the V8's shown live on Friday afternoon.
cheers.:D

You may well find that since Ch 10 have picked up the telecast of this that Ch 9 are having something of a blackout on the subject. Ch 7 have let both motorsport and AFL slip through their fingers so don't expect them to even acknowledge that sport happens in the world.
In Adelaide there are only ever 2 sports AFL and cricket. Don't expect anything else and you won't be disapointed.
Clipsal 500 only rates for a couple of days before it is on and that is staged here. Just hope that Ch 10 don't lose interest with the rest of their motorsport now that they have to pay Bernie for F1.

i argee rex,
It's amazing how immature our television exectives can be. Remember how 7 had a total blackout on every V8 race (& motor race for that matter) after they lost the war for Bathurst !!!
I would think that good sport news would cover all of the major events not just the ones they specalise in.
I just hope the television people put their differences behind them & show what is happening (in all sports) for the good of all viewers, otherwise imagine the rating 10 will get over the comming weekend !!!
At lest SBS isn't petty & they show all sports, regardless of whether they telecast it or not.
cheers.
I've only noticed a few mag ads and a competition on the reverse side of Qantas boarding passes.
I'm still in morning over not being able to attend this year. For the last 3 years I was lucky enough to be invited to one of my suppliers corporate boxes, but this year cost cutting has ment no more corporate box.
The wifes happy that i'll be home, though I have warned her that while I might be home I won't be moving far from the TV screen.
Bargs35 I must agree with you, re the support paddock it is a must see. I've had a lot of my models signed by the drivers in this area and all where more than happy to chat, have photos taken and sign autographs.
Anyone going to the GP for the first time this is the area you want to get to.

That sounds like the best way to watch motorsport if you can't get trackside.
I am guess that you project this onto your wall or a screen.
How big and how clear to you get it.

Where I set it up at home, the screen is around 2 metres squared (at work we've had it up to about 3.5m x 3.5m!!!)
So you need to be about 5 metres away to see it properly, but we've got the space so it's fantastic.
Being able to borrow things from work does have its' advantages & I always borrow the project to watch the Australian & Monaco GP's as well as the AFL Grandfinal & of course, Bathurst.
With the sound being played throught a good quality sound system it is fantastic.
But what is even better is playing GT3 or Colin McRae on the ps2, after the races have finished with my brother.
Hopefully in a few years I will be able to buy my own, as the one I use cost us about $13,000 when they bought it 4 yrs ago. I see that a simular model is down around the $5000 mark so hopefully in a few more years they'll be even cheaper, then I'll get one.
cheers.

That sounds excellent.
I might have to try and convince work that we need one.
2m square is a pretty good size to watch motorsport.
Yes I could see many hours on the PS2 infront of a screen that size.
How much does it change if you sit around 3 - 4 metres from the screen ?

Basically, the data projector (digi - our nick name for it) can show images from aprox 1.5m x 1m up to around the 6m x 6m size (it can be larger but you start to really lose the image quality).
The way it works is just like to old side projectors where by you set it up for your distance & adjust the focus to suit.
At home we have a good Panasonic 68cm Tv & while the digi starts to lose chrispness as the screen is increased (above 5m x 5m) you get over that by the shear size of the screen.
Also, the colour quality is dependant upon the type of screen you use. We use a fairly new (but cheap) silde projector screen & the quality is fairly good (ave tv quality), but I've seen our projector set up on a quality screen ($1000+ at the home show many years ago!!!) & the quality is likened to a rear projection screen.
When you watch a DVD or the ps2 the image quality dramatically improves. The only issue is that you need to be watching it in a very dark room for best results.
I set mine up in the rumpus room which is the size of a 3 car garage & is brick on all 4 walls with minual windows (as it downstairs & partically underground) so it is quite easy to achieve total black out - great for watching movies !!!
While I hope this answers your question, when degi's start to become cheaper I think they will be a very good altertnative to a regular TV.
Only 4 more sleeps until the V8's are back & racing !!!
cheers.:D

Thanks Brchi17
I have got a room that's about 5m x 5m which I could pretty well black out. Might be a good spot to set a projector up one day.

A good quality rear projection TV is another option as It comes with its own Surround sound gear and can be placed in a corner for room layout.
The roomdarkening effect is also not an issue plus the clarity of the picture overall is in my oppinion better.
A friend of mine (big F1 collector has a screen set up abuot 4mtrs by 2mtrs with the best reflective sreen etc and a HUGE picture ,but with out absolute darkness it is looking at a pic like being in a fog
Check it all out before spending your $$ is the motto I think
Is there any interest to get together here in Perth?

Paul Stoddart has ,again, done it ; another stunning racecar!
I am strapped in on the Lounge with the controlpanel checked out incl. pedals on the wheel that operate the fridge to me conveor, plus the Chips filler Rig is stacked, so only thing to do is watch the lights and Go,Go,Go, according to Murray.
What will happen with the next GP in K.L. if the war will break out in the mean time, as some very strong words/statements and predictions have come out of the P.M. of this country.
Better enjoy this one as it might be a while ,if the preverbial hits the Fan

Well it finally here.
I had to work today so I've just finished watching the telecast I taped earlier.
F1 - interesting, but why have a single lap of quallifying if all it does is set the order for Saturday. I was under the impression that the fastest time from the two days single shoot outs would decide pole. But it appears not to be the case.
V8's - HOW GOOD WAS RACE 1 ????????????????
Well my dream start to race 1 almost worked (click for more details http://turing.ibc.com.au/bianteforums/showthread.p hp?s=&threadid=1581)
I liked Russell's comments when he was asked about upsetting most of the Holden people "Didn't they like me finishing on the podium"
DJR back in the top 10 & that team swapping Rat called Paul back to his usual form & crashing out again !!! Reminds me of our previous post of Betta get a new bonnet. Betta get a tow truck. Betta get some more new guards !!!!
What a race !!!!!
Can't wait for the next one,
cheers.
