Has everyone stopped watching bike racing these days? All the forums I frequent seem to have died on the bike front. I just watched the race this morning and wondered why nobody had started a 2010 thread yet. Thought Spies had a good race and it was good to see some close hard racing all the way to the flag, shame one person in particular still managed to ride off into the distance at the end.

I must admit I was cheering Hayden on the whole way. I know the majority of bike fans don't seem to rate him, but I do and I am hoping for a much better season than last year from him. Just missed out on the podium! On another note the Moto2 race was different, the amount of entries in that category making it far more interesting than the handfull of bikes in MotoGP IMO. The field was huge!

Wasn't a bad race, I was cheering on Ben Spies, I thought he had a great race to come from 11th and finish 5th. I'd really like to see traction control taken off these bikes.

I am disapointed Fox aren't doing it this year as I preffered their coverage over ten/one hd. :(

GSXR1
13-04-2010, 10:03 PM
Get used to it - the Ten Network have the exclusive rights for the next five years.....

Similar to their F1 coverage they are broadcasting the final qualifying session from each round which is a plus IMO

Troy_H

coverage from one hd was good, commentary was another thing. I prefer the Fox team myself. Daryl Beattie isnt bad but a bit boring to listen to. His sidekick isnt any better.

I was amazed it was not broken up with adverts. No ads from flag to flag, wonder if this is always the case. My biggest gripe with it on 10 was that it was never live and always containing 20 mins of adverts. No complaints if it stays as good as it was.

I never liked Hayden either, seemed to never go for the win, but was prepared to accumulate points. Got him a championship though. If he rides like he did the other day, I may have found new respect for him.

the race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th was great with speis getting close for 5th, he will be a threat latter in the season imo. with the 3 americians it reminds me of the mid 80's to earley 90'.

When Rossi went to Yamaha, the bike was a dog and between him and Jeremy Burgess look what they turned it into.

Same as Stoner, the Ducati has come along way since he started there.

There are a lot of other talented riders who have been on uncompetitive bikes and they have stayed that way.

This would be Valentino's first major injury on track , certainly since 500's became MotoGP and possibly the first since he entered to premier class .

Its a biggy too , exposed (through the skin) fracture . Hopefully the Mugello doctors are better at managing these than the Dutch who nearly cost Mick Dohan his leg.

some interesting chat from this GP, being more rumors the Casey moving to Honda (this has been run for a while) in a possibly factory satellite team, however the newer one is talk of Rossi replacing Casey at Ducati

malscar
05-07-2010, 10:47 AM
That one has been around Brad, just not as strong as the Stoner one. Also remember Rossi tested the Ducati a few years ago about a year after he went Yamaha.

GSXR1
05-07-2010, 10:06 PM
Agree with Mal, the Rossi to Ducati talk has been a round for a while, and fits in nicely with Stoner to Honda as well, and both seem to be gaining momentum. Latest I've heard is HRC running three factory bikes, with Stoner and Dovisioso running Red-Bull livery and Pedrosa with Repsol branding

stoner and pedrosa in repsol colours and dovisios in red bulll colours, rossi to ducati and ben speies to fiat yamaha. expect ben to be closer up to the front for the remaining season as yamaha will give him the good parts that were going to vale.

bimmerboy
10-07-2010, 09:39 AM
Actually it's stoner & dovi in redbull colours, and the spaniard in repsol - although it's all still to be finalised - neither company has yet signed on for 2011. It may yet transpire that all three will be in a combined livery similar to Marc Marquez's 125GP bike.

And more unconfirmed rumoured pieces to the puzzle.....

Cal Crutchlow to move from WSBK to take Spies seat on the Tech 3 Yamaha...

Colin Edwards to go back to WSBK taking Crutchlow's Yamaha ride.

Melandri joining the BMW WBSK team replacing Xaus - but only for a year before returning on BMW's new 1000cc MotoGP bike in 2012.....

Capirossi to retire..

...leaving vacant seats next year on Tech 3 Yamaha, Gresini Honda, and Rizla Suzuki...

Currently no-one in Moto2 is getting talked about as potential candidates to step up, so looks like current Toni Elias may yet return to MotoGP with his Gresini team.

Similarly, Tech 3 don't want two rookies on their bikes....

Mika Kallio is being tossed up as likely to move from Pramac Ducati, and there is a bit of mail about Jonny Rea getting a MotoGP ride....

And finally, whisper is that Ant West has a 2011 WSBK offer......Don't know where yet, although there are likely to be spare seats with Ducati & Ten Kate Honda. And, depending on their financial position, KTM are supposed to be joining WSBK next year....

Be interesting now to see what Jerry Burgess decides to do.

As per previous post #56 :
Spies to be confirmed soon as Rossi's replacement on works Yamaha (he's testing it today at Brno - Rossi (obviously) not permitted to ride the 2011 development bike...)

Looks like De Puniet will get the second Tech3 Yamaha seat next year alongside Cal Crutchlow.

This creates a vacant seat on the LCR Honda, with talk that Honda will "place" Dovisioso there. Also some talk LCR could be a two bike team next season, possibly with Jono Rea (if Honda will let him move up early, as tight Superbike contract for 2011 at the moment...). And both Dovi & Rea are RedBull backed...

GLENN L

Spies confirmed as Rossi's replacement on works Yamaha - and then promptly goes out and sticks his bike on pole at Indy !!!
(although I think Lorenzo is holding something back - given he has a lead in the championship to protect)

Hayden out-qualifies Stoner, and Rossi struggling - the conspiracy theorists will suggest the departing riders are no longer getting full "support"....although Stoner was quick in practice, and Rossi still has fitness issues.

Good effort from Ant West in Moto2 - to get the MZ into fifth on the grid. Hope he has a good race.

Also, Ducati ending their works WSBK team at end of the season. Has been suggested that having to pay Rossi big lira is the reason, although they have largely been making up the numbers this season behind Aprillia, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki & BMW...

Also, probably explains why Edwards has suddenly come out and said he wants to stay on the Tech3 Yamaha next year - as the strong rumour was he was headed to Ducati WSBK...

edy
29-08-2010, 11:12 AM

Interesting question posed yesterday : Do we still think Rossi is a God ?

The theory is, that he has always been on the best bike in the best team throughout his career. Suddenly he's not getting the best bits and he's off the pace (slightly) - and counter to that, Spies is now getting the best bits and he out-qualifies and races Lorenzo.....

Yes, he is recovering from a pretty severe injury, and yes he's out of the championship battle, and yes, mentally he's probably looking ahead to the greener (should that be redder) pastures next year.

Interesting question never-the-less though.....

The YZR M1 was a dog before Rossi joined Yamaha and won the title at the first go so not on the best Bike there. The RCV211 was brand new and he won on that . Rossi is the real deal and thrives when he can develop and test new things , next years Ducati will be a challenge of the sort he loves.

bimmerboy
01-09-2010, 03:39 PM
I tend to think that Jerry Burgess had as much, if not more, influence on both the RCV211 & M1 quickly becoming winners.

I'm not doubting Rossi's talent & ability, but the stark shift in performance by both he & Spies raises the questions.

Be interesting to see what happens if Jerry doesn't also join Ducati.....
It's all got the potential to end up in tears - Rossi winning on Ducati will be sensational, but Rossi not winning on Ducati (whether bike or rider issues) doesn't bear thinking about......

Did anyone watch the race? I hope so because I need to ask a question. At the end when Lorenzo pulled over the first rider to congratulate him was Ben Spies, his team mate next year. It seemed to me like Spies grabbed his hand to shake it and Lorenzo just ignored him and Spies just shook his head and rode off. Everyone else then came over and Lorenzo acknowledged every single one of them. Am I right or was it just my imagination? Just seemed a little rude to me on Lorenzo's part.

Well done to Casey

I put $20 on my Unitab account.

They were paying $1.53 for a win, so I made a modest $10 :)

Onto other odds:

For JW to win the championship it is $3.00 and for MW to win the F1 its $2.00 so its pretty good value!

More proof of what a knob Lorenzo is.Great rider but so far up himself. The 2 guys dressed in the Super Mario outfits were telling Jorge that Spies was there, yet he ignored him.

I thought I might have just imagined it. Nice to see I wasn't the only one who noticed it. Seems Lorenzo is one of those guys that would much prefer to have no team mate. I hope Spies shows him a thing or two next year!
I thought he did the same thing to Rossi !!Poooor form !!

Great win to Casey
also great to see him trying to get the crowd to sing the national anthem.

what I really enjoyed is the attitude of the guys on the podium,
they laughed and joked and really looked genuinely as if they got on.

none of the turn your back or not acknowledge others because they are in another team etc etc.

I loved this telecast today
great event
great riders / true champions

The motoGP race was fairly boring, but awesome win for Casey!! Moto2 was without a doubt the highlight of the day, with some sensational racing and crazy passing moves every lap!!

Big thanks to PI for battering us with wind all day - standard :D
