His name is Barry Sheene. His favourite number was 7.
May he rest in peace, I did have the pleasure of meeting him when he was competing in Motorbikeracing, He was a karacter for sure and had magnetic powers with the fairer sex!

A Black Day in Motor Racing. He will leave a hole in the commentary team which I think will never be filled with his humor. Yes he will definitely be missed. Our Condolences to his Wife and Family.

I will miss his famous banter with Dick Johnson, as they were good fun.

May he rest in peace, now that his pain is gone.

I just got the news from you guys. Very sad - he was a legend in the UK for his no.7 Suzuki and his fearless riding style.

This is a sad day in Motorsport. I love his commentary, one classic piece comes to mind, 'Major, major sausage that one'. RIP Barry, you will not be forgotten.

it might be hard to find but if you want some insight into what barry sheene achieved ,track down a movie called "silver dream racer", that starred beau bridges and david essex (the pop star) and had a cameo by ron haslam

couldnt find it locally but this will give you a starting point

I too, have just read the news here and have to agree with Glen. The 'major, major sausage' will stay with me for a long time. I knew things sounded bad for Barry by the comments made at the GP from Rusty & co but I didnt realise it was that bad. I bet one thing. He wouldnt have gone with- out a fight.

RIP Baz

Rest in peace Bazza.
Wonder who the prices on Barry Sheene Memorbillia will be?
I meet Bazza in Adelaide last year and was luck enough to get an autograph on my Akubra hat(and Gricy signed it as well).

Barry Sheene had a role in the championship of the 50cc in 1971
He was a cameo driver on a KREIDLER in the meeting where partly due to his being there the enemy Angel (he certainly was not!)NIETO9father of the current 125 cc up and coming motorbikestar) fell of his DERBI 50cc the other guest rider was JARNO SAARINNEN who tragicly died in IMOLA with another great driver
RENZO PASSOLINI.
I for one hope that Barry will meet up with these guys and what a time they will have!
Ahh the good old times.

RIP Barry.

I recall him telling a story about some rider needing to borrow a set of gloves and he couldn't understand why Bazza wouldn't lend him his till he finally got them off him and found he couldn't get his fingers all the way in due to the fact that one and a half finger holes were filled with lead after he lost them in an accident...

was funny at the time...

I emailed channel 10 on monday afternoon and asked if they would be prepared to put together a 2 to 3 hour "Tribute to the late Barry Sheene" , honorary Australian and contributer to world motorsport.
If you are in agreeance with this can you please support me by emailing them at ; Bill Woods and crew,

http://www.rpmlive.tv/contact.asp

I mentioned Barry's " major Sausage " qoute in yesterdays forum not knowing that he had passed away.

Vale Barry Sheene ; He was simply one of the greatest motorsportsman this world has ever seen and an "Honorary" Australian as well.
Few have put back into their sport as did Barry Sheene and added the colour , character and straight forward technical talk as did Barry.;)

I also had the pleasure of meeting Bazza during Targa Tasmania last year and getting his autograph on my camera case. It is a very sad day in Motorsport circles and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I sure will miss Bazza's commentry and his humour he added to the motorsport coverage, the bikes and supercars haven't been the same since he left.

R.I.P Bazz :( proud to call you an Australian

Had the pleasure of meeting him a couple years ago at Bathurst just before he jumped on a Donut King stunt bike & proceeded to smoke up the tyres, he always carried a smile, was ready for a good laugh & was very approachable
He will be sadly missed by all those he had the pleasure of meeting, working or watching him him on the TV

RIP to a legend:)

When I saw Barry in Adelaide I commented to him about a go kart challenge he had between him, prince william and Damon Hill and Prince William won.
Barry said "How did you find out about that?"
I said"It's in the latest Motor".
He was a great friend to the royal family.

I met him a couple of years ago in Darwin, we were staying at the same hotel as Barry and some of the V8 guys.

At breakfast one morning the waitress was having trouble with the cappuchino machine. Barry (resplendent in singlet, board shorts and barefoot) proceeded to fix the machine and then make coffee for all and sundry.

The most down to earth, approachable motor sport guy i've ever met.

We'll all miss him !
