according to channel 10 1.7milj. people watched the F1 race and 1.18 milj watched the whole 3 day broadcast!!
The next race is in Malaysia and guess what ?
F1 is to be delayed till after the sundaynite movie, cause the V8's take precedence
F1 is the most watched sport on the whole planet
At least it is still broadcasted.
someone at the network should do their sums.
I think that there will be some reaction from some forummembers who obviously do not possess a calculator nor pencil and paper:D

well why am i not surprised who couldnt see that coming , each tv station is as bad as the other .
we get to see 3 F1 race in our day time now it looks like the rest of the season is all late at night now because the japan F1gp is on the same weekend as the bathurst 1000 .

P.S. as for being after the sunday night movie dont forgot , the news highlights , sports tonight is after the movie so now the F1telecast will start later than channel 9 did ........:(

at least channel 9 had the F1`s on when bathurst was on

I think the only way anyone in this country will ever get live F1 coverage will be Pay TV. Unfortunately you can't even get it on Pay-TV at present (to the best of my knowledge) but guess this is just a matter of time.

In years to come however the Pay-TV technology will be awesome, and you'll be able to chose which camera's you watch and will be able to chose between in car cameras and trackside cameras. This doesn't help us in 2003 unfortunately.

Haven't we had this arguement before ???

Fact of the matter is that 10 is commited to showing the V8 as close to live as possible & considering it's Australia's premier racing caterogry it should be shown first.

I do remember reading in one of the papers, that on the nights the F1 is on, 10 will not have long movies, or the regular late news & sport tonight so that they can get it on as close to live as possible.

What we've all got to remember is that 9 shafted F1 big time (I don't need to go into details as we all know what they used to do) for a very long time & at least 10 is making an effort to show qualifying & the races as close to live as possible.

Unfortunately for some (not this little black duck thought!!!) V8's rule the rost in Australia, hense why they are 10's main proity & unfortunately for some the F1 are given 2nd pickings in the telecast game.

Wasn't fox going to show the races live when there was a clash with the V8 ???

As to whether this is a good or bad move for F1 & 10 only time will tell.

cheers.

Why do people call F1 the pinnacle of Motorsport? It is the most boring race to watch. Overpriced cars doing stupid speeds with nearly every driver aid possible, it would be cheaper for the teams to put a robot in the car and do the same as the current drivers. At least we can relate to the V8's as current road cars, with the drivers actually driving the beasts. So what can you take from a few million watching F1, nothing, if you want the sport with the biggest TV audience, try Soccer. Good on the Aussie TV, show more of your home grown racing rather than that F1 Circus.

Yes drof you raise an interesting point regarding the input of the drivers. I think the "World Drivers Championship" has become a bit of a misnomer. World Steering Championship may be more appropriate.:)

Do you guys even know what you’re talking about???
I don't even know where to start with this argument.....

F1 is the "Pinnacle of Motorsport" it is manufactures showing the absolute best technology and performance they can produce and put into a motor car. I think the drivers earn every dollar they get. At those speeds any thing could happen.

Stop been so narrow minded.

Hey FF dont go balistic at me BUT. F1 usually is boring, till last Sunday when it got interesting.......for a change. Yes it has the best technology and yes suposedly the best drivers. A procession it has been for a few years. Hopefully this year it Will be more interesting with different people winning. And would be great if an Aussie got on the podeum.Get sick of red..red..red.
V8 Supercars is an Aussie thing. Way better than F1 in my opinion. There is no better sound than a V8. Door to door racing. And yes I suppose a procession with that Skaife dude usually winning.........TILL NOW BABY!!!!!! Lets hope there is a bit of variety in the winning circle this year be it Ford or that other make....yes Holden
:p

I'm with you guys that say F1 is boring!

I look at a F1 and I don't see a car. All i see is a big go-kart with wings. Admittedly, the technology in them is amazing, but the only thing they have in common with a real car is rubber tyres and an exhaust pipe. They're just so boring to watch. There's never any overtaking unless the car in front blows up an engine or spins out.

And before anyone starts ranting about how 'fast' F1's are, nitro funny-car or top-fuel drag racing teams would use F1 engines as wheel chocks!

Give me Rally cars, Drag cars or Touring cars anytime. They cater to your average guy, not your Latte sipping, Renault driving subscribers to GQ magazine! On top of all that, they LOOK like a car!

I didn't mind watching the F1 on the weekend, but I would prefer to watch a round of the V8s on telly than a round of the F1. The V8s are our championship and I believe you should put your homegrown first.

Ok, If you don't like em don't watch em, simple.
Why don't don't you crack another beer and go into your shed and tune up you out of date push rod V8.
And if you think the V8 supercars are anything like the Holden or Ford you get from your local dealer well wake up and smell the coffee.:)

V8's look alot like thier road going variants but can you buy a F1 looking road car at a car dealer???????
The Mclaren F1/LM(worlds fastest car) looks nothing like a F1 but with alot of F1 techno in it like what the Ferrari Enzo has(etc, the Enzo has a electronicly adjustable front wing-banned F1 techno).
Aussies would rather see V8's than F1 if thuer races are on at the same time(etc-the Bathurst 1000 and Japanese GP were on at the same time last year and there were 4 times more viewers watching the Bathurst 1000 on 10 then F1 Jap GP on 9).
If you have 2 TV's in the same room it's possible to watch both at the same time like me,I might have to do this more often if Channel 7 have the PROCAR series on at the same time channel 10 has motorsport on at Sunday arvos.

Lachlan, your comments are typical of pre-pubescent teenagers who think Gemini's are the 'Fully sickest' cars. If you think the V8 Supercars are all about beer swilling yobbos you haven't obviously been there. It's about beer swilling, tyre smoking, non showering general hoonery (top of the mountain, Bathurst), and above all that, we have the might of thousands of horsepower thrashing the tarmac all weekend. Wake up to yourself, Australia prides itself on our national championship, and to your comment about out of date push rod V8s, I'd like to see you come up with something more advanced and make a success out of it, out of date, I think not.

I knew that comment would get ya going.........

I like F1 other people like V8's. Simple.

Also F1 cars aren’t ment to look like any car you can go out and buy. There proper racecars, they handle well and there fast and you can't put baby seats in the back.

Now I'm off for a decaf mocco chino............

Good day to you Sir.

Well, I was an F1 fan from the early 1980's...back then we had real competition.

Then I started loosing interest in F1 about 10 years on...mainly due to boredom...

Cutting to the chase, the V8 seiries in this country has got the right mix of racing formats, rules and safety etc. Thank god that the FIA have finally seen the need to change its own format.

I don't care if F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport...as long as its not boring!

I like both F1 & our V8's, but much prefer the 8's. They ARE representative of what we, the great unwashed can go out & buy (at least in appearance) AND put THREE Babyseats in the back, as we have.
Yes, F1's are fast, handle well & stop well, but so the bl**dy well should weighing only 600-odd kg & being purpose-built. They're also fragile as hell (ask Mark Webber), generally NOT as safe as Tintops & prey to some of the biggest Prima-Donna "Drivers" the world has ever seen. I speak of those who have deliberately taken out their nearest rival to "win" a Championship. When EVER did P.Brock, A.Moffat, DJ, Skaife, Lowndes, Grice, Gentleman Jim Richards etc etc do that? All that turns me right off the world of F1.

You tread on thin ice when you bag out our beloved V8s. I have to defend them, even though the damn things cost me a fortune in travel expenses, merchandise etc etc. It's amazing that with F1 you have almost 900 horsepower pushing a total weight of around 600!!! No wonder the things go like the clappers. Did I hear correct that these things run automatic gearboxes? Doesn't that take a bit of fun out of driver control? Must be one heck of an auto.

Real engines have push-rods! Perhaps if the Yoorapeeans put 'rods n rockers' back in their F1's then they'd be able to get 3000hp+ out of them.

Now I'm grabbing a Beer and going out to my garage (which has politically incorrect posters of nude women  ) to tinker with my Hemi-equipped Charger! It may be 30yrs old but at least it has doors :D

How someones comments open up a great big cans of worms. I to love all motorsport, but as I said in my previous post the F1 cars are swaying to much towards technology and the breaking point of cars instead of cars that need to be Driven, Manually. I think that all Manufacturers should have to buy a shell and chasis from a independant source, thus the only parts to play around with is Motor/Box and drivetrain. There should be no computer controlled aids for the drivers benefit. The way it is at the moment Team Managers or engineers could race the race Playstation style, the drivers are just a face for the teams, a token gesture.
I did watch most of the race on Sunday, and I must admit the governing body is heading down the right path with the new rules, makes for some good racing, especially in regards to tatics rovolving around qualifying, maybe MS might have won that race if he had not pitted that 1 extra time.

You can't really believe that. If you replaced Michael Schumacher with Skaife, Lowndes or Co in the Ferrari do you think the lap times would be the same - no chance ! The driver has a huge input to how the cars are setup and their performance.

I love both forms of racing, but both have been guiltly of boring races in the past (and probably will in the future). Yes, there has been a lack of overtaking at the front of F1 races in recent years, but the same can be said of the V8 supercar - especially some of the tight street events and even the holy grail 'Bathurst'.

V8 supercars, F1, Rally Cars and LeMans cars (my other favourite) all offer something different. Each has their strengths and weakness and you have to admire them for what they are. Any comparisions are meaningless (try running a V8 Supercar on the Monte Carlo rally and see how long it stays on the road !). But when its 40 degrees outside as it was last weekend I don't really mind as long as there is some form of racing on the TV and I've got a cabinet full of models to play with (yes, shock, horror.........I actually take mine out of the box !).

Turbo Gemini huh........does it make that poofy sneezy ''achoo' noise when you shift that Opel 4spd or does it just echo a dull fart sound out of that irrigation pipe you 4cyl slappers use for an exhaust........V8s sound great.......flatulence and mosquitos dont.:D
