I have the Moffat Brut 33 Falcon and it surprises to see it has a drop fuel tank. I do not think this car ever raced with a drop tank. Can someone out there shed some light on this?
To my knowledge Moffat ran a drop tank for the first time in 1978 on the Cobra

p.s Also is there plans to launch the Moffat Capri? I see minichamps has the car coming out as raced in Germany before Moffat took delivery.

Anyone please correct me if I am wrong but, the model you are talking about rodshell is the car Allan ran at Bathurst thus the droptank, for the early part of the season no droptank was on the car. A great article about this car and its history is in issue 4 of Australian Muscle Car magazine.

As a matter of interest (and ignorance) what is a drop tank and how does it work ? Is it separate from the normal (stock) fuel tank, and does it really drop ?

All the best

A drop tank, as I have described it, is the fuel tank that is lowered (or dropped) from its original position. A good example is the A9X Torana where the tank is clearly visible at the rear. The Fords seldom ran their tanks like this. My question related to the fact that I did not believe the Brut 33 Falcon ran a drop tank but my model has one. I have a sneaking suspicion that my Brut 33 model has a chassis from the later model.
Can someone comment on this??

Rod

Here is a photo of the Brut33 at Bathurst. Photo is from 'Allan Moffat's Scrapbook' 1978.

If you have a close look at your "drop tank" you'll see it is just a black box, probably covering the standard tank underneath. If you ever find out the Brut33 falcon only ran a standard tank then I suppose you could pull the "drop tank" off if you're game.
