Hey all, do the Ford fans drive Fords? Do the Holden fans drive Holdens? Do the Ferrari fans drive Ferraris?
I like Fords and drive a BA XR6 in Acid Rush. My wire drives a 1974 Mazda 808.
My Son drives a Nissan DR30 Skyline, and my daughter drives a Laser. What do you drive?:p

Hi. I'm a Holden fan but I used to drive a WRX (and loved it) until the lack of leg-room caused me to much grief (bit of the old arthritis) - Don't laugh :o Now I drive a Magna VRX and must say that I am very pleased with it. Got the best deal on a demo VRX by about $10,000 and had to take it.
Used to drive ED XR8, hence my nickname for the forum.
Now driving a Mazda RX7 series two, and an XF Ford ute.
Also using an XE at the moment, but it's going now I've got the XF. Next stop EF-EL XR8 drivtrain in ute, to be topped off with LTD front, and schmick paintjob!!!!

Ford fan till 1982 when they dropped the big V. Now i sit on the fence, i had a 69 Mach 1 Mustang recently and sold it to buy HSV Grange in Cherry Black for my growing family.
Once they are older i think i will buy a Phase III , A9X hatch or even a R/T E49 Charger if i can find one..
Holden through & through and I drive a VN SS in Atlas grey. Too many extras to list:D

Terrine, beats me . She loves the old beast. Drives it everywhere. Cost us $380.00 and was a one owner. Bought it from the origional salesman who sold it new. Soon it will have a transplant with an MX5 motor and 5spd.:D
My wife says that she is generous...loving....................
She also said her name is not the "cook" She is the CEO and commands a lot of respect..............

Well we are a FoMoCo family and we currently have 3 cars and one POS.
My car is the 66 Mustang coupe.
The Mrs has the XY GS Fairmont.
Family car/Mrs uses for uni is an EB XR8
POS is my get to work car and recent addition to our family is an 85 Nissan Bluebird 4 speed with Turbo diff (Turbo diff cause it whines like a turbo) which we paid 500 bucks for.
First 3 cars are all Windsor powered and the last has the mighty 2 lt Pintara engine.
Bernoo, how do you find the XR6? I assume it is the non turbo?
A friend recently let me take his BA XR6 NA ute for a spin. The tip tronic auto took a little to get used to and it felt a little doggy off the mark. Certainly it went much better as we got up into the rev range.
bernoo
18-03-2003, 06:46 AM
Mustang1966,
The BA is a rela nice car. Looks stunning. Cant go amywhere without someone comming over to look.
Yes it is a little slow of the mark but shines higher in the rev range. Overtaking in it is real good for a 6 cyl. I will upgrade the exhaust system soon and fit a K&N filter. That should help. My last car was a EF XR8. That was a little quicker. Now if I win the LOTTO a GTP would look very nice in the driveway thank you very much:D

Bernoo,
Oh the BA XR6 is a very nice car, dont take me wrong. I owned an AUII XR6 and the BA is a big jump ahead. The thing felt nice on the road, I loved the layout of the interior, and once you get to around the 2000 Rpm mark it really picks up it's act. I would take the Manual box over the aut but that is my opinion.
You found the EF quicker? What was done to that.
Our EB XR8 has had Pacemaker headers, dual 2 1/2 down to the muffler and into a single, Chiptorque chip, and K&N filter. The auto has been tricked up as well. I have also driven the 185Kw AU AR8 and the EB feels quicker than the AU.
And yeah same here with the Lotto GTP would be on the list as well.
Have a look at this web site, you might find it interesting.

Hey Mustang1966, just had a look ath that wed site. COOL.
I dont know exactly what was done to the EF. It was an ex NSW Highway Patrol car. It was lower than std XR8. Had modified exhaust and K&N filter. Handled real well. Only problem was that my sons 4cyl killed it.:(
mustang1966
18-03-2003, 07:27 AM
I would not admit to a 4cyl beating the 8. :D unless is was a Commodore.
I am very picky on who we run in our V8's, more so with the 289 Mustang.
The XY is the pick of the 3 cars. Our friend who built the engine (he owns an XR GT & XT GT) built the little 302 to beat XW & XY GT's. She has some real balls and the 650DP is the only carb that seems to work on her.

This week I'm driving my old EL Falcon, next week I'll be walking as its' new owner is taking her away on Friday.
Around the middle of next month my VY SV8 should be built & delivered.
Oh on the weekends I like to drive my Caribbean Jaguar Ski boat. She has a 135hp Mercury & is good for just over 65 mph, which is absolutely flying on the water - it also accerlates about as hard as a my girlfriends fathers WRX !!!
I call her Rocketship because of how hard it goes !!!!:D
cheers.
I had a beautifull green & black XB GT 351 Coup :D
But then along came marrige & kids plus a job change that ment a long drive to and from the office, so economy and space for the kids won out in the end and I had to sell the old girl (the XB that is)
Now drive a Magna wagon and the better half drives a RAV4.
Thank god for my Moffat collection.

One of the humbler jobs: '89 EA Falcon GL Wagon 6-seater. Dead standard & original except for the XF S-Pack Alloy wheels that I retained from our old car. I'm disappointed that the wagon has disappeared from the XR-6/8 range. We were recently offered an ED XR-6 Wagon for $10 000-00, but didn't have the readies. Oh well, when the house is payed off, or maybe another 4WD, I've had 7, after all.

Being a fence-sitting Pom I love both Holden and Ford performance cars, but sadly don't have an A9X in my driveway. I do however drive my XC Cobra whenever the weather's dry, but given that Oxford (where I live) is now officially the most expensive in the UK for petrol (how does $2.40 a litre sound?) I've suddenly developed a love of driving my wife's 980 cc Suzuki Swift.....Ooh, the sound of those 3 cylinders at speed.....

Bernie, nice EF XR8. I just love those tickford 16" wheels. I had them on my EB wagon but the dealer would not allow us to swap wheels onto the XR8 :(
Peter, I have some other photo's but I have to dig them out and scan them for you. I will do something on the weekend, just for you.
Bowen Mountain is a beautiful place, nice and quiet, great for the kiddies and still close enough to the Sydney CBD for work.
We will have to look at buying an old F-100 with gun racks, driving lights, different coloured doors and guards to fit in with the country folk up there. I am trying to get the Mrs to learn the banjo as well.
I guess it reminds a little of FNQ, besides the heat :p
Nick I agree on the A9X, what I would give to have one sitting in the driveway. The best Holden ever made, in my opinion.

You'd better get used to waiting for one of these babies !!!
I ordered an SV8 early last months & the 4 weeks delivery (1st date was 12th March) had now become 8 weeks (now 14th April), so now I'm just waiting for the next excuise when the 8 weeks is up. :(
First it was because they didn't have enought CD players (bit strange considering they're std, so you would think they would have plenty of them !!!)
Now they tell me that last weeks problem with the V6 plant will slow things down, but considering I've ordered the V8 who knows !!!
Hopefully it will come on the 14th as it is the first day of the school holidays & it would be great to take it away somewhere to run it in !!! :)
Can hardly wait,

I am lead to believe that it was because of the disruption to the production line (lack of V6 engines) which may have caused this problem. Its' a curse of the just in time production line theory, where by the required parts arrive (at the line) within 12 to 24hr before they are placed in the car.
Grubby, I know what you mean about that new car feeling (I actually got to drive my EL out the show room - what an expirence !!!).
I can hardly wait for this car, considering this is my dream car (red, manual, V8) could explian by eagerness to get my mits on it !!!
I know good things come to those who wait, but I'm sick of that game, I just want it & now !!!:D
cheers.

Yea sorry Rat.
I had between 40 & 45k to spend on a new car & I fell in love with the SV8 from the monent I test drove it. I might add it wasn't my 1st pick. I really wanted a WRX, but I wouldn't pay $3500 for insurance (as oposied to the $750 for the SV8), which was the best quote I could find.
I did drive a Barra, but unfortunately I wasn't really impressed with the engine (6 cyclinder). As after driving an EL auto 6 for the past 5 years, I felt that it just wasn't quick enought for my liking (it didn't seem to want to rev, considering it's a twin cam I was a little disapointed in its' performance). I wanted something a little bit quicker.
I didn't bother with the Turbo 6 as I couldn't even get a price for its insurance & the XR8 being around 55k on the road, it was simply out of price range, so the SV8 it is.
However, I am & will still be an avid Ford fan. Rest assured that even thought I may be driving a Holden it doesn't mean I want them to win in the V8 stakes.
I have always followed DJR 1st, Ford 2nd & Holden never & that will not change.
Who knows in 5 years time when it time for another car I may be able to afford a Ford I like. Only time will tell.
cheers.:D
ps. I can't wait for Biante's XR8 when they arrive in the comming weeks.

Did you get a test drive before you placed your order ???

Always had a soft spot for utes. Test drove the Sedan (manual) and ute (auto). I've only ever owned holdens, have driven some fords, they don't feel the same. The ute was what I expected, great, but I decided on the Manual after having 5 autos.
Optioned the red leather, phantom duco, solid cover, tray liner, thought about the HBD rims but had to draw the line somewhere.
No kids, no back seat needed.
brchi17
20-03-2003, 06:34 AM
I know what you mean about drawing the line with options.
With my manual SV8, I ordered the 'power pack' (cruise control, pwr windows & 4 airbags), HBD interia kit (alloy peddles, door handles & stainless sill pannels), HBD Leather sports steering wheel & the 6 disc in-dash CD player.
Should be a pretty impressive vehicle when it arrives.
I can't wait, but the time should fly.

Drive a manual V6 VT.
A word of warning for those buying/driving manual commodores. Gone are the days of cheap clutches! Clutches are designed to last 120,000km of normal driving (have a look at the manual on where the 'recommended' gear changes are!!!). We give ours a hard time (mostly first off the lights etc) and replaced it at 80,000...$800 by a mate, $1200 by Holden Dealer (including labour). Fly-wheel can-not be machined (although my mate did machine ours to keep costs down), and last year when we did ours, there were no non-genuine parts available.
In saying this, I often drive auto VX, VY's at work, and would NEVER buy an auto commodore with those slush boxes!!!
Leigh
brchi17

Thanks for the info on the clutches.
AS this is my first ever manual (always wanted one, but never ended up with one) it might not last that long.
I'm told the best way to start these gen3 V8's, is heeps of revs & dump the clutch & traction conrol will do the rest !!!!:D
Good thing my father is a mechanic & so all I'll have to do is be very nice to him to keep my repair bills down !!!
cheers.

20-03-2003, 09:51 AM
Brad - I don't have traction control on my VT Clubby and with 250kw it doesn't take much to get the rears spinning... Also make sure you have got good tyres for the wet cause they can get a bit taily when you don't expect it :)
What colour did you get Brad? Good to see you got the manual.
brchi17
20-03-2003, 10:16 AM
Thanks for the kind words of advice goldie, about the genIII's.
Comming from a 157kw Falcon 6, it will sure be a big jump in power, but I really can't wait. I'm just glad I didn't get one of these when I was on my P's as I don't think I would still be here today.
They are just too powerful in unexpirenced hands !!!
I've ordered a Red Hot (or fire engine red as I describe it!!!) one, which should be here around the middle of next month (fingers crossed!!!)
So how long did the origional Bridgstones last on your Clubby ???
Also, I am lead to believe that they are worth around $300 per corner, is this far off their actual price ??? I am hoping they last around the 30-40,000km mark, so that I get around 18-24months from them ???
cheers.
Leigh
20-03-2003, 11:08 AM
Brad,
With the V6 we get around 45,000km per set of tyres. I firmly beleive that ALL commodores (excluding HSV's) are under shod. Very easy to light up the rears in the dry. This morning, with all this rain, I had it sideways changing from second to third doing about 80kmh on a straight stretch of road...I don't tend to change gears around corners in the wet (unless I want a bit of fun).;)
Are RE92's standard on the SV8?
Leigh
the_goldie
20-03-2003, 11:21 AM
Brad,
Red Hot - that will be nice. My wife wanted the Red Clubby when we were looking for mine, but I just love Black cars so got the Phantom Mica (closest to black HSV offered).
Tyres - I have just reached 30,000km after almost 3 years and my tyres are a little overdue... I got some Bridgestones priced a few months back and they were around $450each! Could have blown me over with a feather. That's one of the main reasons you won't see smoke coming out of my rears @that price. I will have to bite the bullet real soon though cause they are getting pretty worn. Hopefully they have dropped a bit now.
The tyres will last depending on the roads you drive on and how you treat them. I live in an area with alot of off camber corners and they wear quickly.
The GENIII loves powering onto the freeways, it is upto 130km/h before you know it and it still has plenty of gears to go through as well :D

I know they're not RE92 !!!
I'm not a fan of Bridgestone's 15 inch range as they were very, average on my old EL Falcon (I also had RE88 on my XF - they never gripped in the wet either). I ended up with some Falkens which were really good & gave great grip in the wet as well.
When I get the car I will know what it's got. I would think that what ever was std on the VXII SS's will be what it will be wearing as the VY SS is now 18 inches.
Only time will tell, but I will let you know when it arrives.
cheers.

Reason I went for the SS is there's not a lot of options. Most of the things I wanted are standard.
As for clutches, if you don't want to buy them, get an auto with manual valve kit in it, works jsut as well, just a few less gears to play with.
What the hell, I'll enjoy it regardless.
You should too Brchi17. Nothing like the grunt of a bent 8

My XR6 originally came with those crap Dunlop SP 2000?? tyres which just made it to 20,000km. At $378 each tyre I thought they were noisy, made the car track all over the place (follow road variations etc). When I was told the replacement cost I said forget it!!
Replaced with Hankook?? Ventus 102K Y rated tyres. These are excellent in both dry and wet and I have done 42,000km on these and still plenty of tread left. These were recommended by a client who swears by them at $175 each fitted. I'm very happy with them!
Should get around 60,000km out of a set. They are on my company car so they get plenty of welly!
Cheers,

I am running Kumos on my clubby. They have seen 15.000 and are wearing well. They look like doing about 40.000.Great tyre in the wet even with traction control off.But when they let go,they let go big time..good thing to keep t.c. on when wet.
Mine are 245 x 18 and around 350.00 per corner.A mate has just reshod his with pirellis at 700.00 per corner but after giving the kumos a run he is going to use them himself..

After being one-eyed holden, i swayed over to Ford the last 4 yrs or so for a couple of reasons- 1 was i grew up with craig lowndes who lived close by, and the other was having a mate being a service manager at a holden dealer and learning of the problems associated with the Holdens.
I am about to take delivery of a BA XR8 ute, after driving the whole falcon range they are simply fantastic, better in the whole package than anything else local. I'm pretty picky with cars and i havent faulted them...sure they are heavy but they dont drive that way and handle fantastic.... i cant wait for the Boss V8, one of the best V8 notes i've heard!
Bernie

Rodderz you lucky boy! You should love the car.
I have found 1 fault with BA which is front brakes. Had mine machined once. 2 weeks later rotors were replaced. Car has done 12k. Will keep you posted. Apart from that, the car is fantastic.

Bernie,
It sounds to me like Ford are still using soft rotars with a hard pad compound.
This has been a common Ford trait since the EF & in my EL I put some Bendix performax pads, which saved the rotars.
cheers.
Bernie
21-03-2003, 06:49 AM
Brchi17,
I suggested that to them. Have to use genuine pads. Talk of Premium Brake replacement if trouble persists I hope.
brchi17
21-03-2003, 06:59 AM
Believe me if they have fitted genune pad as a replacement you have not solved your problem.
IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN & it is caused because Ford is using cheap crapy brake pads.
Just take it to your local mechanic & specify that you need deasent pads fitted (Bendix, for example) & just pay the money. Over the long term you will be happy you did & you should see an instant improvement in your stopping distances. You will not get the same live from the pads, but you also won't need to replace the rotars every time the pads are replaced
I have spoken at length to Ford about this problem, but they either don't care, arnt interested or are too pathetic to pay a few dollars more to solve this problem.
I think that it is interesting that this problem only started to occur when Ford changed from Bendix pads to a cheaper brand as their OEM brake pad.
Good luck.

Bernie & Others.......
I run the Tickford Premium Brake Package on my XR6 VCT. The car has done 62,000km and I'm on my 3rd set of rotors. The last set of rotors lasted 8,000kays and Ford said it was my fault!!
Needless to say that Ford replaced both the rotors and the pads (front only). Don't think for a minute that upgrading to Premium package will solve your problems. New Front Rotors and Pads are $968.00 fitted! Not cheap.....
Bernie
21-03-2003, 04:55 PM
Thanks for the info. I might try the soft pads option.
Or buy a magna........NA just kidding.:D
brchi17
21-03-2003, 05:47 PM
As I said earlier its' simply a case of soft rotors & hard pads. Whether Ford will actually acknowledge this is another matter !!!
After fitting Bendix Premium I improved the braking distances by aprox 1 car length over std pads.
When my rotars required replacing I got some DBA slotted rotars (just to try something different) over the std ones, aprox $30 (trade price) per corner dearer than regular non abs DBA rotars, which again inproved my stopping from 100kms by another car lenght. It was an awesome gain in performance for very little effort & price.
The only draw back was that my pad life went from aprox 40,000kms to around 30,000kms. I believe the advantages far out weight the disadvantages, plus the peddal feel was greatly improved !!!
Unfortunately the Bendix Premium have aspendos (I know I can't spell) in them are are now being phased out (they were also a very dusty pad) & on my last pad change I fitted Bendix Performax. These pads took quite a while to bed in, but once they did, WOW !!!!
The performax do take a little while to get to tempreture (usually 1 light to medium application), but once they do the take quite a lot of punishment before they begin to fade - great fun on a windy back road !!!
I might add that they also improved my stopping distance by another car length. So over the std Ford set up (on a EL GLi) I've saved another 3 car lengths at 100kph to 0 stop, truely amazing !!! (I might on 1 occasion it did mean the difference between hitting a car & stopping in time)
Now I know this, because I have always practiced emergeny braking because my EL didn't have ABS. I stop dead from a certain tree on a quite back road from 100kph to a dead stop, measuring my stopping distance in releation to a dirt side road.
Stock std I over shot the intersection, by 1 car length.
With just Bendix Premium on the std rotars I pulled up at the dirt road.
With DBA Slotted rotars & Bendix Premium it was 1 car length before the side road.
With Bendix Permformax & the DBA slotted rotars it was 2 car lengths from the side road.
So you guys with late model Fords, with brake wear problems, if you only change your pads to a good quality one you'll notice a big difference. And as one company says, "if it only saves you once a year, its' a good year"
cheers.:D

Well guys,
As of 12:30pm on Saturday the 29th of March, I offically crossed to the other side.
I took delivery of my Red Hot VY SV8 !!!!
AWESOME - is the only way to describe the sound & feel of the 5.7Lt V8. I just love it. Lead me to some corners !!!!!
Everything is just where you want it & it just goes like the clappers, even when your not trying !!!. I haven't even been giving it much stick (keeping it under 4000rpm with a maxium of 50% throttle), as I'm lead to believe that it can take up to 10,000km to run the big beast in.
I took the red rocketship down towards the Island on Sunday (forgot about the superbikes being on) to find a few of my favourite roads. Well, it was an extream rush as the SV8 roared around corners as if they weren't there. 4th & 5th gears were just what the doctor ordered for 80 to 100kph cornering !!!
The worst & only down side to this car, is how easy it is to get a bit of the old right foot feaver & thats when the speed alert sure comes in handy.
You should have seen the faces of all of the grade 5&6 boys hanging over the fence at school on Monday morning, when I rocked up in a bright shinny red SV8. Let alone when I took the guys at work for a run up Arthurs Seat at lunchtime. I think I might have sold another 4 SV8 !!!
I really think Holden are on a winner with this model (admin I think you should make this car as well !!!), but then again I could be a little bit bais as for me, it was love at first sight !!!
When we arrived back from our little drive, the boys were still hanging over the fence, waiting to hear the great throaty tones of the big V8.
You can all proberly tell, this for me is a dream car dream come true. As a 13y/o boy who dreams of a Red Manual V8 & finally acheiving his dream almost 14yrs later, Saturday for me was a very special day. And I've been living that dream every day since !!!!
cheers.:D

Hi Wacpt,
Hope your wait isn't as long as mine was for an SS Ute. I took delivery of my 2002 VU SS on the 1st of February last year after waiting 7 very long months for it to arrive. I think the main wait was for manual versions that customers just couldn't get enough of. Anyway hope you enjoy it when you get it as I certainly have mine.
By the way ADMIN are Biante going to do the VU SS utes in 1:18 scale as I have been told that CC's are releasing some soon?

This car is awesome.

Bernoo, good luck with the Ba as it was the car I really wanted, but it wasn't my cup of tea - I didn't really like it myself, but I hope for Ford it is the great white knight they needed.

Good to hear you LOVE the car! How good is that 5.7L grunt hehehe
keeping it under 4000rpm with a maxium of 50% throttle I rarely go over 4,000 - 5,000, don't really need to unless you have to get somewhere in a real hurry or someone wants to take you on at the lights :D

First car was a xy track red 302 G/S 4 on the floor ,extractors, 600 holly and elbrock manifol, pissed on worked 253 monaros with $2.500 worth of work , this is back in the early 80's
Then done up a TRACK RED XY GTHO PH 3 spent over $14.000 on it, $3.000 on the engine internals alone, 3.5 Detroit locker.
Gee! this thing went and reved, 8000 RPM in top gear,.
We got a 3 mile straight near where I still live and one day we held her flat, the needle on the speedo was straight up and down in the digits, way past the 140 mph
I eventually extended the speedo to 160 mph which it easly passed
Brought a GTHO PHASE 1 as well and built 2 XY GT utes plus many other XY's plus XA GT
Wish I still had them all.

After driving a F**d around for the last few years, it's my second TX3 now - first one being too good looking to scumbag thieves*, I've decided a change is necessary. But I'm being realistic, going overseas in October, so next year I'm gonna get behind the wheel of a Cherry Black VS Clubsport. It is my favourite HSV, so I gotta do it while I'm young!! I have no real complaints though with the TX3, although it lacks power, but it's faster than my previous two Geminis, but not as fast as the TX3 before this one.

Nar I love this car. The sound the smell, the roar power !!!!!
I don't know about running out the right rear as it's fitted with a LSD & so it will proberly be both of them, if I was to act like a fool & tramp it without the traction control on.
I've been told by one of my fathers mates (who has a VX SS ute)that these things will even wheel spin in 3rd gear during a heavy takeoff on a dry road!!!
Haven't tryed it myself but I would imagine that by then you would be absolutely flying !!!
The tourque of the big V8 is awesome & so you don't need to push it to the point of wheel spin to get it moving along very quickly.
The only down side is that running it around town (5kms to work each way) the computer says it averaging 20Lt per 100kms - must take it for a run, as last weekend I saw 9Lt per 100kms on the screen on the hwy !!!!
cheers from one very, very happy SV8 driver.:D

Hi Brad - in my VT SII clubby, with my wife driving it around town like yourself it seems to average around 16l/100km. On the freeway is a different matter altogether. On long runs my best is about 8.9l/100km!!! Even with the AC on it doesn't make much difference on the long trips.

Yeaterday when I got into the car it wa saying 20Lt per 100 then after a short 3km burst down the freeway it was down to 13.2Lt per 100kms !!!
But then we don't primarely buy these cars for fuel efficency do we ???

At present there is a very, very long waiting list as I work my way throught my friends & family. Anyone would think they've never seen a big V8 before !!!
Come to think about it, I think mine is the first V8 in our extended family in more than 10 years - the biggest problem is getting my father out of the drivers seat, so that I can have a drive.
It least now I should get more of a drive of his Supercharged VX Calais !!!
While it might not be as fast as my SV8, its a different kind of speed with the supercharger - A lot of fun anyway !!!
ps Over the weekend I did 600kms averaging 10.2Lt per 100kms (And I didn't ***** foot around) !!!
Who says you can't have performance & ecconomy !!!
I compared these figures with what I used to get in my EL on LPG, it worked out at $18.50 dearer to run the SV8 over the EL on LPG, now I know what enjoy driving the most & it aint the EL !!!!!!
cheers.:D
My daily drive is an '87 Holden Rodeo ute - good reliable old bus, as well as a Honda CBR1000 Super sport which comes in handy when I'm running late for work. My weekend cruizer is a rare '82 XD Ford Fairmont Ghia ( not an ESP model) - 351 clev (matching numbers) - 4 speed top loader - all original except for the wheels and suspension, low mileage and in very good condition.
My project car - is a '59 Star model Ford Customline - have owned this car for about 28 years and have only deregistered it about 3 years ago. It needs rebuilding but overall is in good condition - a very good base car to start a new project.
And just to keep the Ford line in the family - the lady drives a '99 model Au Falcon.
FORDS - KEEP ON CRUZIN :)

WAPCT, a bent Ford V8 mate! I also noticed at the Adelaide Motor Show a couple of Commodores with 260 KW badges on them now. Speak of coppying FORD:cool: Just like before when the new VY rear end was copied from MAGNA. Should call it a MAGNADORE! Wish they would design their own stuff with out copying:D
Is this the begining of the end for Holden?

It seems as though everyone* on this forum can afford a $60,000+ car, so what does fuel matter in this case? Damn, if I could splash out that much on a car, then fuel would be the least of my concerns! I am not knocking anyone of course, there is nothing better than going hard and fast, but there are, to me, greater concerns than fuel consumption when you are driving something that you love!!:D
Note: * : everyone is definitely a bit of an exaggeration.
Happy driving to all.
The rear end of the VY looks nothing like a magna rear end. Why people refer to that I don't know why. oh BTW commodores still outsell falcons so there!

I have been a FORD man for most of my life and cant wait for the next V8 Championship win.AS far as road going cars go though I have definately been converted to the Nissan product.Especially the Skylines.I have owned 2 now, currently a R33 GTS-t.I work for FORD and have owned both Fords and Holdens.Neither however come up to the build quality, handling or performance levels of the Skylines.I haven't come across a FORD or HOLDEN that has put up a challenge yet.Not even the $90.000 versions.
The only thing lacking is the deep grumble of the V8.Small price to pay. Hopefully Santa will bring me an R34 GTR one of these years.

At least Holden came up with a great looking car in the VT which can't be said for Ford's AU. Now they have made the BA look like a Commodore so they can hopefully sell some! :p

Also, I am lead to believe that they are worth around $300 per corner, is this far off their actual price ??? I am hoping they last around the 30-40,000km mark, so that I get around 18-24months from them ??? - brchi17
Brad - I just got some new tyres on my 2000 Clubby. I was sold on some Continentals $299 each. Quiet as a mouse(alot quieter than the BridgestoneS02) and great in the dry. Have not tested them in the wet yet.
They are ContiSportContact (have an Asymmetrical Tread Pattern). Anyway anyone who needs some new tyres check these babies out. Let's see how long they last. The dealer said they should last more than 30,000km.
Here is the link for them.

The reason being is I am short sighted and can only read things up to about 2 metres away (with a struggle). Bloody hard as Im a mad car nut!! Have been since I was 10!!

Interesting thread...
My daily driver is a Phantom Mica VT2 SS with mods.
So yes, my model collecting directly relates to what I drive... I'm a shocker though, I have all sorts of Holden paraphanalia (clothes, flags, posters, keyrings, phone cover, etc. etc.) and usually wear my HSV polos. My ex-gf ( :( ) is also into Holdens and we always used to look odd when seen together!!
I digress.

My drive for the last 18 months is a 93 SLUG!! (Landcruiser). My daughter does the dressage/showjumping thing so it was a necessary purchase for towing the float and sometimes two horses. It does what it was built to do quite well, but it's still a SLUG.
My wife has a 99 Magna (HOT.35L for you Penrith locals) and without getting laughed at by you Ford/Holden freaks, it's a bloody nice thing to get around in. Plenty of grunt, more than capable of blowing away your average 6cyl Ford or Holden, and even takes care of my sons V8 VS. Just needs to be RWD!!
Now you can:D

I was going to trade my BA xr6 on a BA xr8 ute. Was offered as a trade in $13k less than new price and thats only after 6 months. I soon forgot that idea after the missus started to pack my bags. Ill stick with the 6 for a while longer.

whats wrong with the Barra, you so oftern gloat about ???:D
On a serious note, are you not happy with the XR6 or has things changed where you need a ute ???
I was offered a change over price of $29k on my EL GLi for a AU XR6 when the EL was 9 months old, with less than 20,000kms on the clock !!!
good luck.:)
ps. MY SV8 is going really, really well & its' at least 10k cheaper than an SS or XR8 !!!

brchi17, the car is great. However you know what it is like. You get used to it and it aint a rocket ship. A 260 kw ute would have been lotsa fun. Hohum. I will just play GT3 on the playstation and drive the Seaton race car.
brchi17
12-05-2003, 09:30 PM
I can understand that Bernoo.
Thats why I bought the SV8 !!!
For the money, it the best performance car out there. I was looking at n/a XR6, but didn't like the Barra & found the SV8 an instant dream car, which I could actually afford !!!:D
To be honest I did want a ute, but I let my other half have some input in what I purchased & so a 4 door it was.
Still enjoying the pure grunt of a 6spd, 235kw, 5.7Lt V8.
cheers.:D

12-05-2003, 09:35 PM
And they say that the sv8 is faster than the xr8. Have to send the falcons to jenny craig. Every 100kg less weight is = to 1/2 second down the 1/4 mile
brchi17
12-05-2003, 09:53 PM
I'm lead to believe that its' also quicker than the SS due to it weighing less.

I am running in heavys. Price you pay for playing rugby and being close to 100kg.
I Only fairly new to the karting game. So far I have only run 2 meetings and have run about 5 practice sessions. I still have plenty of life left in the tyres though.

I used to race senior national heavy (junior engine senior class) and the tyres I had on my kart (DUNLOP) were two years old and had plenty of rubber left on them, although it was a bit slippery until they got hot!!!
Only raced one season and in that time I got 2 third place trophies

The ex race car was fine, I did get it out on the Wanneroo track a few times at test & tune days and also on HDT/HSV owners club meetings. The thing had so much torque it was amazing. The plan was to put it back to original condition as raced by Brock and Moffat at Bathurst, but the Mrs wanted to go to Europe so I had to sell it to fund the trip.

VN C/dore V6 for the last 8 years after giving in to a mates persistant pressure to sell him my HJ Monaro 350 sedan. The VN cost me 12 grand back then.
I sold the HJ for 7 grand.
That HJ has held it's value or even gained.
The VN has dropped about 8 grand.
I still see my ex HJ every couple of weeks.
I missed it so much that I offered to buy it back recently.....umm he said.... no thanks...@#$%.
So I bit the bullet and found an HJ Monaro Coupe !! 308 auto for $3500.00 2 weeks ago in fairly good nick, that needs to be put together. Now I look forward to going home from work and tinkering around with it.

SWRT, your've talking 1:18 scale arn't you !!!
To be driving one of those Turbo Liberty's you either have money to burn on insurance or you've got a kind parent who are insuring it on their name with you as a nominated driver yes ???
If you're only getting your L's why not start with a std RS Liberty & wait until you on the full license before you get the Turbo.
At least it then shouldn't cost you a pack to keep it insured.
From memory I think there are no power restriction on L's but one you actually get your P's the restrictions come in & I'm sure Turbo's etc...., are frounded upon.

Brad,
Chevy Lumina's are rebadged Commodore's in some countries, but not the US.
IIRC Chevrolet stopped making Lumina's 2-3 years ago, about the time we started using the name for an optioned-up Commodore...One of a long list of GM owned names that get used differnetly in different countries.
eg Opel had Commodore's and Senator's, US had/has Caprice's, GTO's, Lumina's etc (I think Berlina and Calais were o/s models before they were used here as well)
I have attached a pic of a '94 Chevy Lumina Eurosport
Tony, Please correct me if I'm wrong above...What year is your Lumina?

Subaru stereo systems (apart from those in the top-spec cars) are the only thing I can fault with them, as this is the fourth Subaru I have owned

Holden Adventra LX8.
I have a few friends who berrated my choice, but hey, Ford don't do a Territory 'Boss 260'. And yes forum members, I have read the rumblings about a turbocharged FPV Territory, but it just wouldn't be the same thing !!

How lucky can a boy be? Called motor reg dept about rego for car. Asked if reg plate "XTGT" was avaliable. He said YES. Pick plates up in 14 days.
Any one else have custom plates? Hey, new thread can start here. "What Custom Plates do you have"

Whilst the manufacturer aint my favourite I have to say well done. Great to see an intact piece of history like that go to an owner that will obviously cherish it and treat it with the respect it deserves.
Enjoy.

Congats, that a very damn nice ride.
My current drive is an AU1 Liquid Silver XR6, and a 1980 MkII Ford Escort RS2000. Both are fun!
Also can anyone tell me on the roadworthiness of having the battery in the boot?
I have a VL Commodore 5 speed. Excellent car i love it to bits. I've had it for about 7 months now, not one problem with it. I can get my licence in a couple of months.

Current car is a VU Storm Ute (work horse)
My wife (Ford supporter) sold my VT Clubsport (Number 8) and bought herself a Mazda 6 Luxury Sport. Must admit it is a fun car to drive even without the V8 grunt.
