BMW Group Australia has announced that after three years, the MINI Challenge race series will not continue in 2011.

Mini Challenge was great racing. It perished in NZ as well a few years ago, in favour of the ho hum Suzuki Swift Sport production championship. I think I heard that Australia is getting its own version of the Swifts, so that will probably be floated as a replacement.

Sad to see the great supercharged whine be replaced with granny's shopping basket here. Cheaper, I suppose. Less relevant to youngsters wanting overseas opportunities too.

I simply don't think we have enough $$$ out their to sustain so many one make series in this country and I'm surprised that the mini's lasted for so long. Not being a fan of this series I'm amazed it lasted as long as for me for the reason that I couldn't see how it fitted into our local scene.
