That wasn't the only time AM drove a Holden before he jumped in 05 in '86 - in 1980 he drove the HDT #25 Commodore in the Sandown 400. He blocked Brock when he was being lapped - for lap after lap after lap! Enthralling stuff it was. Then, having promised Brock he'd line up with John Harvey at Bathurst, promptly continued to build the yellow XD!!!
The rest, as they say, is unfortunate history.

He also teamed up with P.B in Bathurst and due to being used to the perfect handeling of the fords over the previous years, he smacked the comode in the concrete barrier (McFillamy park?), ahh well what can one expect. :D

I was at Amaroo the day Moff drove the Torana. Check the picture on page 204 of the book "AUSTRALIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP 25 fabulous years" by Graham Howard & Stewart Wilson. This sure would be a unique model.
Another would be the Jane, Geoghegan 2UW kleber Torana on page 192 of the same book.

Yes ff, that was to what I was referring when I mentioned 'jumping into 05 in '86'! Didn't think I'd mention it specifically as everyone knows about it.
But that VK will be a great model to have, and one of the few Brock's that will be in my collection.

I could not remember when it was and if Moffat drove more than once for HRT, sorry. Also a golden opportunity to make a (funny)? remark on the Holden/Ford difference
I do have a video of Moffat ANZ Bathurst Sierra RS500 with the late Greg Handford ,that I kindly got from Graeme, and Moffat enlightens the viewer on what exactly happened, with the footage as well;) .
Have you had time to get in contact with the supplier in USA for tractors? Or could I have his adress, please?

Bert, I have emailed him and am waiting for a reply. I email him on his personal email address but I'll dig up the email address for the shop for you - it's in my inbox somewhere. Anyways, I'll be in touch soon with you soon.
The picture of Moffat in the A9X in the aforementioned '25 Years of the ATCC' book is pretty good. I'd look at buying the car if it was to be produced.

FF, email address for the shop in Indiana is -
gearheads@onet.net
Jason Opsal is my contact there and one hell of a nice guy.
But as I said, I've emailed him already on your behalf and if I haven't heard back soon then I'll let you know and you can email the shop direct.
Yeah, a lot of Fords to look forward to soon - Dickie's 1980 police car is eagerly anticipated by all!
And I hope Moff's 1976 #9 Bathurst XB is on the agenda at some point too, so as to complete the Moffat Bathurst 69-80 V8 Falcon collection, once the '73 XA is done of course.

And talking of Bobby Morris and Moffat, remember Bathurst 1980? Moff of course blew the hell out of the motor in his Fed Insurance XD. A little while later he jumped into Morris' Channel 7 Breville sponsored Falcon owned by Bill O'Brien.
All this after Moffat had promised Brock he'd drive #25 at the Mountain!!!
But I hope that the 1980 and '81 Bob Morris XD's are a Biante subject in the future (and the '82 Seiko XE too!).

I was reading the latest AMC Mag #11 this morning , the story on the Brock/morris A9X`s .
Well in the morris part of the story was a small story & pics of moffat in the A9X , and like peter stated it had the camels on the front , and that moffat won the first race he had entered in the A9X not to bad i guess ......:) .
Well at least he got to drive a proper race car in his career ....:D

Goodwrench,
1980 was indeed a great year at Bathurst for Allan Moffat. Perhaps it was a new record in some way - a driver who raced two Fords in the one race, both of which cars failed to finish the race due to engine problems. In the case of Moff's car, he'd had trouble in practice with oil consumption and rebuilt the engine only to have the piston rings fail to seat again. All that smoke on lap three was blow-by, rather than actual engine failure.
As for the #25 Ron Hodgson A9X, that would make an interesting alternative to the usual, much like DJ's Zupps XU-1. It's yet again a pity that tobacco laws prevent the use of the word Camel which featured on a number of body panels on that car.

OK Graeme, I apologize - I am well aware of the whole story of Moff and his disasterous XD of 1980, but chose to very basically generalize for the benefit of the very casual observer. But yes, you have the correct story there.
As for an AM A9X, it would indeed be an interesting alternative to the usual. But I would not have put Dick's XU-1 in that catorgory. He drove Torana's for 6 years! I'm waiting for the 1975 Peter Shearer Menswear #17 in particular.

I hope they do one of the Breville A9Xes because they look fantastic.
