View Full Version : Most recent model purchased
With the expected influx of new models to come in 2004 and the anticipation of them by us all, I was just wondering what everyones most recent model purchase has been.
Mine was the Murphy Clubsport minicar.

I've seen one of these in the flesh and they are very cool. Only 20 made and I've seen a few for sale (NZD$80000)
In the digital dash part, it has Murph and the build no. next to it so I guess it would be hard to build a fake replica. There was a news article on TV over here when they went on sale and Murph was here personally talking to the new owners. One lucky buyer asked if he could change the Murph badges on the side to Skaife if he started losing races. Murph saw the funny side of it.

:) I'm interested in all model cars but inparticular Aussie cars & Singer Motor Cars AMy latest purchase is a Singer SM 1500 Saloon(sedan) [before I get the usual comments about sewing machines, Singer were an English firm who in the 1920's &30's were the 3rd largest motor manufacturer established by George Singer. Incientally, Issac Singer made the sewing machine and he was a Septic Tank].

given the quiet state of the 1:18 releases of late, I took the opportunity to fill some gaps:
1) Ambrose 2001 first ATCC round win Hidden Valley
2) Moffat 79 XC Bathurst (anyone got vinyl C@mel decals?)
3) Junior Johnson 2002 AU by CC
4) Herbie the Love Bug by Johnny Lightning
5) AXIA Skyline GTR by Kyosho (one more payment to go)

Timbo, my retailer is good enough to let me have a reverse layby, in that I pay money with out actually getting anything, pretty much giving me the ability to get something as soon as it comes out.... so as long as the Ambrose car doesnt cost any more than $245, then I think Im safe in saying that Ive paid in full for it! Sorry I cant help with the price!

It's James Brock's Brute Ute, not the Targa one. Nice looking model, but doesn't tie in with my collection so I'm giving it a miss.
To add to my latest purchases, I have just ordered all the 1:64 V8 Supercars just released.
Latest purchase is now Brock Sierra through the website.

Mate,
I picked up the AXIA and HKS GTRs from the 1990(?) Grp A season from a place called Motorfocus in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane. They cost me $380 all up.
So far the R32 GT-R collection looks like this:
#12 Calsonic (the super mass produced version)
#1 Nissan Bathurst winner 1991
#1 W!nf!eld Bathurst winner 1992
#87 HKS with the green headlights and black, green, blue & red paint job
AXIA with the gold BBS wheels and pink and tropical paint job (I pick this one up tomorrow and it will look great next to the AXIA Sierra that Minichamps will eventually release).
I missed the '89 Calsonic, STP and UNISIA cars.
The 3 Toyzone releases (STP, AXIA, HKS) are very rare as only 400 of the 1000 produced were for the markets outside Japan.

My latest pickup was Skaife's - Richards Bathurst 2002 winner for $120.00. That was nearly a month ago.
I'm hanging out to get my next car, which will probably be the 'Rock' car.
Just thought I'd ressurect this thread as I picked up my latest model yesterday. Asia On Line VT Commodore from 2000.
I noted on this model that the air intake vent on the passenger rear window is a sticker whereas we now have a proper vent in the window of todays models. Amazing how the detail has improved in such a short time.

My most recent purchase is the 1\43 BA XR8 Bathurst prototype, and i have to say this being the first biante of this scale that i have purchased, these are not much better than the classic carlectables of old, and they cost $10-$15 dearer than the new, and better detailed classic carlectables.
will think long and hard before i waist money on one of these again.

I semi agree with this. The smaller scale BA's dont look as good as the smaller scale AU's. I got the 64 Bathurst T-Car, Im happy with it, and intend on getting the full set of BA's in 1:64 even though they look a little bit something... not sure of the word. Definitly exellent, but not as good as the 1:18 models. Ah well! Still bloody good models!

Luck tends to balance itself out. I have been unlucky with quite a few models, but at other times you will litereally trip over what you yearn for at an unbelievable price. Example for me, I got the two CC 1/18 Valvoline cars for $112 each and a Kyoso BMW Le Mans winner for $50.

I seem to get something different every day at the moment - I thought I had everything I wanted that had been released so far, but I was wrong! I've just bought the Minichamps 1:18 Ford Sierra RS500 and Jaguar XJ13 by AutoArt, and I have to say that my favourite model keeps changing as quality gets better! It was the Moffat Cobra, then it was the Johnson Greens Tuf XE, then it was the Andretti Porsche 956L, and maybe the Sierra has taken the title now! I expect it to change again this year with so many new releases to come......

Here is mine. An oldie, but a goodie:
1997 Sainz / Moya Ford Escort RS RAC Rally.
Paid 35US, including shipping.
Also recieved today Matt Kenseth "Smirnoff Ice" last Winston Chanpionship winning Taurus by Team Caliber "Owner Series". The model comes attached to a base by screws, which are sealed in special tubes. Preety much it's impossible to disattached the model from its base without ruining the base in the process. Is this a sign of things to come: alcohol sponsored cars going the way of tobacco ones?
Surprisingly, neither Coors, Miller Lite, and of course Budweiser sopnsored rides modelled by Action have this level of "security" built in. I'm not an expert on alcohol industry, but it seems to me that some 16 year old who wants to score some brew, undoubtedly under the influence of overly expensive scale diecast model, would rather go for Bud, Miller, or Coors and not "upscale" malt beverage such as Smirnoff Ice.
As for the model itself, it looks stunning in all black livery with silver Smirnoff Ice logo on the hood.
Regards,
Sergey

Well, I thought I'd better post this, as I don't think I will ever come across this scenario again.
Was at my favourite model shop yesterday, Monday, and asked for Moffat's 61D. The reply was, we haven't seen them yet, but they are due in this afternoon. After talking about other stuff for a couple of minutes, this dude walks into the shop and asks where do deliveries go, front door or back door, as he has 21 boxes.
When delivery dude walks out to his truck to start unloading, I ask shopkeeper if this is the delivery. Yes it is, comes the reply. So while boxes are being unloaded, shopkeeper finds 61D boxes in amongst the first few boxes to be unloaded and starts to unpack them.
I am looking at the 61D before truck has finished unloading.
Now you can't get much better service than that. I mean, the paint hadn't even dried before I got my hands on one, so to speak.
Gotta feel a bit special with this eh.

OK Kiwiracing, whats the kiwi connection with Paul Morris??? You really aren't sticking to your original collecting theme are you??
I guess you're gonna say he has a kiwi mechanic or he has a mechanic who knows a guy who knows a guy who used to car pool with a guy who once picked up a kiwi hitch hiker:D

no offence to biante and such cos its not ur fault... but I have to say that the company that u send models with in my opinion is pretty sad..
I mean.. other peeps said they ordered this model on Friday last week and that they recieved it Monday.. (one guy said 10am) and they are in Sydney..
yet I order the model thursday nite last week... I get the "order shipped" email friday... and given yes there was a public holiday here yesterday (WA Labour day) but here I am on tuesday... not even 2 hours drive south of the warehouse.. and ITS NOT HERE...
that to me is rediculous. if the postage company get get a model to someone in SYDNEY technically overnite if you dont count the weekend.. I should be able to get one 2 hours south...
My last purchase's were the 44D Monaro & Ron Hodgson 197? Torana , both Bathurst winners, both Biantes and both bloody good model cars.;)

Maybe the vehicle was a Holden and it broke down, had to be towed away, repaired, and then tested, before being put back on the worktrail. Who Knows?............................. Aunty Post does.

I've finally recieved my 1970 Petty Plymouth Superbird, and I'm really disappointed, especially if compared to Moffat's maiden Bathurst XY GT from Biante that I've bought recently. Firstly, this ERTL-based model retails for $80US plus shipping, I've got mine off eBay for about $70US shipped. Still, I feel that I've payed $70US for basically a $35US model. Now, I know how some of you guys feel in regards to price/quality ratio of Hot Memorabilia / Welly Moffat Mustangs. In sum, this model is simply crude. While all the details seem to be there (well, there isn't much since it's 1970 NASCAR after all) the quality of parts feels subpar contributing to the overall "cheapness" of the model. While it's certainly well put together, a far more expensive Biante represents a better value since its oozes qulaity, something this ERTL redux is utterly missing. In my view, the devil is in the deatils, and there is simply none on this product, especially if compared to GMP's Trans Am Donohue and Follmer Camaros, which were deemed overrpiced by many collectors as well. On the positve note, only 3,000pcs of this arguably most famous NASCAR racer of all time has been produced, and they flew off the shelves in a short period of time, even with stratoshperic suggested price for model of this quality. Also, it's by far the longest model in my collection and definitely shape wise looks menacing and impsoing. A good shelf piece, but not something to woo you with details.

Sergey

berkut i feel your pain on the petty superbird, i had all five of the winged warrior series on preorder. but after seeing promo shots of the petty bird i canceld all my orders on this series. mic just cant compete with higher detailed brands, using ertl molds as a base. and the price there asking for the crappy rehashes is inexcusable. i have three 1/25 scale johan plastic kits and i think i will stick with those until someone else does them better. as far as my last purchase i bought the 1969 xw moffat #61d and the
1972 e49 hemi charger in hemi orange by classics. they should arrive sometime this week. now i have all four classics chargers and the norm beechey shell charger on preorder.

sorry to hear your disappointment, after reading your praise on the thread started by westy on this same model...
http://forums.biante.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3429&highlight=petty
i did say at that time that the mic/ertl hybrid dyno don johnson mustang i had recently received was ordinary to say the least from the ertl start point.
we are indeed lucky in australia to have such fine model producers and it amazes me when i read the biante versus CC banter here on these forums...these posters must never see what some manufacturers make of very famous motorcars.

I know that I've said some good things about this model. The prototype photos looked great and the model was universally praised at Diecast Pub. I would still rate it above any other ERTL-based MIC or PYE product, but I've just expected more from this model of motorsports icon. I have to emphasize that the build quality in terms of fit and finish is there, but the "parts" are definitely crude, lacking "finesse" in them. I have never bought a model based on a preview, but I guess one cannot trust reviews (even your own) 100% as well. The main problem of US v. Austrlain diecast marketplace is that even major metropolitan areas lack decent hobby stores with respect to diecast. Thus, a lot of US collectors have to rely on hearsay while making purchase decisions since most of us don't have an opportunity to inspect the model up close and in person.

Sergey

I wonder about this "lost in post" business - it seems to happen too often. I've just bought an UT McLaren F1 LM XP (the orange road-going prototype) from a bloke on eBay who has had 2 cars "go missing". I wonder if it's just a ploy?

This is why I always get insurance or have it registered even if I am selling something.

I finally got myself a 92 Bathurst Skyline.
I was hanging for this one ever since i seen it at my local GamesWorld when it was released. When i went back to get one they had all been sold out.
I may have paid a little more for it now but im happy i have one now.

Well I just bought a little doozey, a great little find - well I think so. Dropped into Hobbyrama in Brisbane last week as I wanted to get the CC 1:43 of Ingall, saw one on a back shelf that looked a bit interesting, asked the guy for it and low and behold "Lowndes" is driving it, Ingall on one side and Lowndes on the other.
I pointed this out to the guy behind the counter (after I agreed to purchase:D ) he was a bit surprised to see this.
I'm happy with it, a great find.

I picked up the Dick Torana and Moffat Sierra from Lynford here in Perth last week for $85 each. They both completed my respective collections.
Didn't buy them upon release as I'm not a keen Sierra fan (did buy Dick's though) and as the Torana wasn't #17 it stood out even more from the DJ collection and had little common thread with the others. But for this price, I'm more than happy.

Hey Glen, does that mean the white R8 is going to be #2 in the Phantom Mica Clubsport range ;)
So is the COA going to read #1 / 2 ??? Ha Ha
Glen Alexander
20-04-2004, 02:07 AM
The White R8 is actually going to be Tiger Mica...... So yours can stay with a COA number of 1/1. When I do a Phantom one I might put different wheels on, maybe GTS Coupe wheels or something totally different. Some kind of chrome wheels maybe, like the 3 piece modular ones that I have a set of, that were pictured on that Green Walkinshaw of mine (which unfortunately had a bit of an accident and is kinda no more  ).

Brad,
There's 2 pics of it in the ltd ed custom thread.
I can't take all the credit for the work, the paintjob was done by GRPIII, it's 2 pac I think and looks incredible. But yes, it does look like it came from the AUTOart factory.
chups, the Walkie had a fall, and a few parts broke.... maybe repairable. I'll think of something for it. I am still trying to get the Spicy Orange one finished, for some reason the front doors won't go on properly no matter how much I fiddle with the buggers. I might have to get another Walkie, hopefully at a cheap price, and use it for parts for the other 2. I might try and turn it into a drag Walkie.....

V8SS - the detail and quailty is excellent! See this pic (http://www21.brinkster.com/cambo/images/modelCars/ 2003WillsVY43.jpg) for the Wills car (it is not a close up - but gives you some idea I suppose). The undercarriage detail is excellent so is the interior detail.

Thanks for that Cameron, I couldn't access your picture but get the idea they are of a good quality.
The only 1:43rds I collect (apart from Team Kiwi) are made by Biante so i'm still waiting on the 2003 VY Supercars. Admin did say that the Sandown winner would be out in June so hopefully the others aren't too far away.

For the obvious stuff, the accuracy is right there (like different coloured wheel nuts left to right, although CC's have this on their 2003 Ford's as well)...For the subtle stuff, who knows? What I mean here is placement of decals etc...CC's tend to do an 'average' car, not depicting any one event, but depicting many events...
Paint-wise, the Team Dynamik cars are magnificent...right down to the micro-printing on the rear wing saying Don't Push (the words are about 2mm long...). Their is much less bleeding of colours or missed detail (i.e. colour missing in door handles) that plagues this scale (I usually search through a stores stocks to find the least effected, no need to with these models).
It would appear that CC's have nailed the VY shape, much better than their effort on the VX. Even the tyres have a lower profile than on last years models, a welcome relief to me.
Comparing to the already released BA's, I tend to feel that neither Biante nor CC's did the BA's in 1:43 very well...neither looks quite right around the grill or front and rear lights...
Overall, I'd give the CC's VY 1:43's a 9/10 (always have to leave room for improvement;) )
As I said above, aguably the best 1:43 in my collection...(arguably because I can't decide between this and my Webber Jag...a different kind of best me thinks)
On a side note, even if they were doing Team Kiwi 03, which they are not, Team Kiwi drove a VX, so would use the old mould...I'm sure that they will do a Team Kiwi 04 though...
Cheers
