I noticed on my Greens Tuff car that the front wheels resemble a cardbord or plastic cut out with the wire spokes printed on however on E-bay I seen a photo of the model with good wheels in front and back.
I think before the model was released on the site the pre-production shots also showed "real" front wheels.

Has this been addressed by anyone before and if so, Why was this done?

Car still looks great regardless. Cannot wait for the Moffatt Twin Set.

The disc's you talk about are / were actually fitted to the real Greens-tuf Falcon. I think the wheels Dick used were BBS alloys.
The discs are something to do with brake cooling, but I'm not
100% certain. All the telecasts I remember watching on t.v always had his car running with them on..
Maybe someone else can shed some light on this?

Ed :)

Those covers are glued over the rims ,the front rims are exactly the same as the back ones underneath ,I found this out accidentally while playing Bathurst races on the lounge room floor,it fell off ,look so good without i popped the other one off.
Possibly the Photo you saw had them removed or dislodged also.

Yeah these discs were just added on to outside of wheel to draw air into brakes,Brocky had a similar set up on his commodores of that era, they were not always used,it depended on the circuit and weather conditions etc.

In Europe many of the LeMans sportscars and 2 litre touring cars run with these wheel covers. For example the winning Porsche 956's used them on he front wheels at LeMans during the 1980's. However rather than for cooling they are used to keep heat in the front tyres in cold weather and prevent the tendany of rear wheel drive cars to understeer due to a lack of front end grip.

just another question on the XE wheels guys - is the front wheel cover MEANT to be taken off? like, was it designed so you can leave it on or take it off? thanks everyone.

Hi Ivan

They are glued behind the centre of the cap to the centre of the rim,so they are definatley not meant to be removed.

If they fall off ,they are easy to glue back on.

if you want to take them off for display, what would be the way to go without breaking anything? (im not referring to accidently taking it off)

Hi Ivan

I removed with it a tooth pick ,i put in the valve segment and it flicked off with no resistance and no damage.to rim or cover,it is held in the centre by a real small drop of glue ,it is not glued around the outside.

The Toothpick is Definatley not a Patented Tool for safe removal ,but it worked.

hi david

thanks for the reply. i take it the "valve" you're talking about is the valve where u pump the tyre up with air right? it's the only "valve".

thanks again. they do tell me that often the best tools are the cheapest and ugliest tools. ;)
