Has anyone shipped an item overseas before and if so what is the best method for both seller and purchaser.
I am reluctant to send the model without confirming payment is ok. and I'm sure the buyer feels the same about sending payment without having the model.
Can anyone advise me??

First thing make sure you get the payment then you send the model, if the buyer doesnt like that bad luck !!
You can not buy anything over the net or by mail order without paying for it first so the buyer should not have a problem with that, it is a risk we all take when purchasing from an unknown source.
The safest and not to bad price wise is via priorty post where they have to sign for it at the receiving end. That way it gives a garantee that they get the model buy signing for it.
It is cheaper to just send via Air parcel post, just make sure you pack the model well .
hope this helps

Have a look at "tradenable.com". I sold a heap of first gear trucks back to the US. The service they provide is great.
