Hi Arbath

As you would appreciate many model collectors start of in the hobby by collecting models of cars they own, or would like to own. Therefore the majority of Australian collectors collect Australian Holden's and Ford's, but there are also a number who collect European or American cars. I'm a member of a model club here in Perth where we have several members who specialise in particular Marques : Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Subaru, MG, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Maseratti, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo just to name a few. The scale is pretty evenly split between 1:18 and 1/43 with some collecting both.

some do prefer to collect types of cars rather than country of origin. for instance some collect touring cars, some may collect rally cars, of F1. each of those has a good mix of cars from different countries.

I collect all V8 supercar releases and then get the cars signed(my entire V8 supercar collection of CC and Biante supercars are autographed exept my recently recieved Brock NZ).
I also have started another collection of international cars with Australian drivers in them,eg Crompton NATCC Honda,Perkins 88 Le mans Jaguar.
I also am starting to get more old aussie race cars from the past including the Biantes, even an old Perkins 88 touring car by Trax!!!

My collection is of Australian V8 Touring Cars in 1:18.

The only outsider is a Ford Taurus NASCAR though I would like a Alan Jones 1980 Williams F1 in 1:18.

A friend of mine collects mostly American NASCARS with the odd Australian V8 thrown in.

To kind of scupper these theories, I'm a Pom who only has Aussie models! I started back in 2000 when I bought a full-size XC Cobra, and the Cobra Club told me of this model that was being released. I bought one (with the same serial number as the real thing - thanks Biante!). I was amazed by the quality, and have bought a few others since (all older Bathurst cars). I'm now just waiting for the A9Xs and various other Holdens and Fords when they're released. I'd be interested to know how many other model collectors actually have the real thing as well - there's a guy in this month's Unique Cars with 18 Holdens and what looks like Biante models of some of them.

Much to my wife's horror, I enjoy my Aussie models so much that I may get models of European classic racers, like the AutoArt Porsche 917K etc. She tells me she'd never have married me if she'd known. But of course I didn't know myself until 2 years ago.....

First Choice is F1 1 have large collection. Mainly Mclaren's as well as Mclaren can am and Indy cars.

V8 Supercars is catching up but is behind in numbers due to none being available when I started collecting cars. Maybe with the number of cars due this year they will catch up.

I also collect special motor sport items, such as F1 car parts and driver worn items.

Cheers Glenn

Hi Nick,

If you can get a copy of 'Australian Muscle Car' No3 (just released) there is an article about a car collector with a heap of cars (including a Cobra) stored in an old poultry farm shed.

He collects Fords (Aust & British) and Holdens.

email the publishers at editorial@chevron.com.au these are the same people who produce the Bathurst - Great Race annuals.

The tractorcollectorscene in USA is Massive and is the biggest interest/collectorgroup by far I am told .
I do collect F1,Ferrari, Rally,V8 bathurst,Brock, and some of the older eurocars that I had while growing up in europe

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the tip re Australian Muscle Car. There's never anything published here in the UK about Aussie cars, as nobody's heard of them (I'm doing something about that whenever I drive my Cobra on the road!!!). I'll get my mate in Adelaide to send me Issue 3, and I've got a subscription starting with Issue 4.

My collecting started when I finally got myself a 1:1 scale Commodore SS and when I saw a CC model of Russell Ingalls Castrol VR, I had to have it and the collecting bug started. I collect HRT, Ingall, Murphy, Team Kiwi and Bathurst winning Commodores. Not sure where it will all end but now desparately need a cabinet.
