View Full Version : Bathurst touring car legends race?
With all these old race cars being turned into models I want to see a touring car legends race at Bathurst like at Adelaide 2001 either this year or at next years Bathurst with old aces like Peter Brock,Alan Moffat,Dick Johnson,Jimmy Richards,Murray Carter,John Goss,Bob Holden,Kevin Bartlett,John French,Peter Janson,Harry Firth,Bob Jane,Colin Bond,Bob Morris,Jackie Ickx, the Geoghaen Brothers and many more competing in their old race cars.
Send plently of emails to AVESCO and owners of old race cars to get this idea into reality.

That would be great to see. Even that the Adelaide was a bit stagged, the memories came right back..... :)

I was thinking that the other day. Here in the UK we have heaps of retro motorsport events (Goodwood, Silverstone) and they are awesome. I'd travel from the UK if there was the chance to see some older Bathurst cars in action, even if they are only playing at racing!
Just a few more drivers and cars I could add to my list above.
Fred Gibson,Larry Perkins(going into semi-retirement),Bo Seton(Glenns dad),John Harvey,Bruce Mcphee,Bill Brown,Norm Beechey,Phil'splitpin'Brock,Brian Sampson,John Fitzpatrick,Allan Grice(back to competitive racing in the V8 Brutes),George Fury,John Bowe,Tomas Mezera and Rob Franzavic.
Cars that could compete could be Mini Cooper S,Torana XU1,A9X,L34,XR GT-AU falcons,Sierras,Cortina Gt/500,Monaros,VB-VX commodores,Chev Camaro,Nissan Bluebird,DR30,HR31,GTR etc.

Great Idea!
There are Historic races in most states, but the touring cars (groups Na,Nb abd Nc) are mostly replicas. Although the owners/driver are devoted and provide great entertainment and memories, nothing beats the "real thing" (red 1969 Mustang for instance...).
In NSW, the HSRCA has been inviting Group C's to events this year, and these cars are the real McCoy. 1985 Nissan Skyline, ex-HRT VL Group A Commodore, Glenn Seton's Sierra (with large black stickers where the 'PJ' logos are) and the Kings George Tavern XE Falcon amongst them. Real race cars (not repro's), from the real teams. I was around the other side of the track taking photos, so I didn't get to the pits to check out the exact histories (drivers, events etc) on these great cars.
But I must say the cars that always draw the most spectators to the fences are the Nb/Nc's (XW's, XY's, XU-1's, Monaros, Chargers, Mini's, Mustangs).
I think it would be harder to get the original cars organised for a 'race' as suggested. I'm sure the drivers would be champing at the bit. An old racer's passion never dies....
Cheers, ET
I mentioned on an earlier thread that I thought that with the release of the Biante Moffat/Bond 1977 XC Falcons at Bathurst this year, that AVESCO or Biante should try and arrange for the 2 original cars to do half a doz demo laps with Moffat & Bond at the wheels. I think it would make for a great sight and photo op.:D
