Ive been banned from displaying any more of my cars until i finish making the:
a) TV unit,
b) new computer desk,
c) hall room bookcase,
d) finish building the patio,
and
e) clean out the spare room.
pheww... im tired just thinking about all that work....
So, im allowed to have five cars on display, and 40 or 50 in storage. Ive found if i rotate the cars around a bit each week, its easier than finishing off all the projects ive been told to do...
Oh well, at least she who must be obeyed doesn't winge about me buying the cars!

I have just had a cabinet built for me and I convinced my wife to put the cabinet in the family room. It sits along one of the walls opposite the fish tank. So now when I sit in the room its a choice of watching the fish swim around, admire the collection of cars, play the sony or watch tv...
You can view the pics of my cabinet and collection of cars here (http://www21.brinkster.com/cambo/modelCars.asp?gr oup=modelCars).
I've got two nice big 7'x4' book cases in the living room. And like the_goldie, from the lounge I can watch the fish, the hermit crabs (between the book cases), play Gran Turismo or watch tv!

Had a cabinet made a few years ago 7ft by 4ft.
Stained timber with large timber and glass lockable doors.
mirror back with glass shelfs, 14 shelfs in total.
can fit 84 x 1/18 cars in, 6 per shelf.
It is now full, so I keep them in their boxs now until I one day
get another cabinet made.
My 1/43 are in an Autoart cabinet on the wall. That is also full
so the rest are also in their boxs.
Cabinet is in front lounge near computer desk, so when anyone
comes in they cant miss it.
:D
The wife would like it in the garage if she had her way.

According to the logic of my dear lady wife, there isn't room for both her collection of glass paperweights and my cars. And besides, model cars are crap. So there you are - can't argue with that......

Wait a sec.... glass is fragile. Shouldnt her "glass paperweights" be best stored under lock and key, wrapped in tissues, hidden in the shed??
Certainly dont want any to be accidently broken!

Poor Nick, My husband (modelcarmad) is a mad v8 supercar model collector,
I had my own room in the house to paint and display my folk art painting. His cars were taking over the living room, which I was getting fed up with. He had a double garage built a year ago, so what did I do? NO! I didn't kick him or the models out in the garage, but I packed away all my painting gear and gave him MY ROOM. He has his (4 short from complete set) of classic carlectables 1 :43 on one wall. a variety of 1:18 models on another wall on shelves, a large signed Lowndes 00 print and various caps on the other, starting to run out of room.
I done this because I know that he loves me as much as he loves his collection and he shows it.

Hi Modelcarmad - my wife is convinced that you're a bloke that I've paid to pretend to be a sympathetic woman in order to justify my hobby. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to convince her that it's not a sad nerdy occupation, open exclusively to blokes.....
My wife has tried the "garage" suggestion and I'm still trying to convince how much some of them are worth. At present I don't have a cabinet so the 1:43rds are all still living in their boxes stuffed up in the spare room wardrobe. My expanding 1:18th collection is in the lounge only because I've run out of room in the wardrobe!! I really need to get a cabinet but I keep spending all my spare funds on new models. Its a vicious cycle but I love it.

I used to have the whole spare room filled with car magazines, car videos, slot cars, on shelves, 1/24 plastic models, r/c cars, diecast of all scales, amd all kinds of motorsport stuff.
Then the kid came along and everything had to be packed into boxes, I then started to slowly take over the house, first my 94 bathurst print went up in the dinning room, then convinced the "one who rules over all things" to share the wallunit in the lounge, then got hold of a 40 car display case for the lounge, and finally dicided my son should have what I consider to be the coolest bedroom a kid ever had, not that the "one who rules over all things agrees, he was born a one eyed DJR fan thanks to me.
Hi all,
I am the wife of an avid collector and i know girls,I am a disgrace to the female race but I have actually put my hand into my own pocket and loaned my husband $850 of my own money to buy a car. BUT it is O.K he hasn`t paid it back and in true female fashion he will never forget what I have done for him out of the goodness of my heart.
He has 94 cars in total so far and I must admit I sneak in to the lounge room, bedroom, dining room and sneak peaks at them.
I love the fact that he has been buying all of these cars and I encourage him to buy as many as he can CAUSE we are running out of room and he has suggested that we buy a new house ,a bigger new house, and it is all because of his beloved models.

Hi Nick.
Tell your wife that it is MRS modelcarmad and I am not a bloke,(well not last time I looked anyway). I am into the models as much as my hubby, as I am on the Biante website, and others every night. It is quite funny to read about what the "MEN" out there have to ***** about sometimes. As for the displays in the garage, I know thay are to precious for that as I also work to help pay for them.
P.S. Nice to see another female on this forum (Gail)
Cheers TANIA.:)

Hi Tania, I think she's beginning to believe it! She's still not convinced that models are in any way interesting, but she has started pestering me for a drive in "our" (actually MY) XC Cobra! So she's part way there. I tried to explain that it's a bit like going to the best motor museum - you can't actually drive the cars, so you're enjoying what they look like or represent, and having your favourite models is the same. I'll let you know if she ever comes round to my way of thinking.......

Tee...Hee. This has to be a worldwide problem guys/gals. It must be the hardest thing in the world to convince an 'unconvinced' other half that what we are doing is fun and entertaining. I almost died when my wife suggested that we should buy a display cabinet to display the 1:18 Williams F1 cars that I am collecting. (If anyone has any '95, '96 or '98 Williams that they would like to get rid of then let me know). Luckily I don't have a shed big enough to store anything more than her garden tools in !!! Lucky that... Hey. Tee...hee.

Minichamps are re-releasing the world championship winning Williams cars of Hill (1996) and Villeneuve (1997) in both 1:18 and 1:43 scale.
The two 1:18 scale cars are currently in transit and are due to arrive next week.
