View Full Version : What do you think

Last year Biante brought the standard of the minicars up a notch further with the addition of 'real' headlights and taillights. Is there a possibility that somwhere in the future we might see opening hoods with replica engines and set the bar higher again?! I understand that they can't depict a 1/64 engine the same way they can a 1/18. Is this the factor that would probably keep this from happening. Curious to hear what everyone else thinks, as well as Admin's thoughts.

It would be interesting, but the cost would surley drive the price above what people would pay for such a small model.

Opening features in small scale models have been historically hard to implement properly for two reasons: distortion of proportions as a result of addition of "mounting" hardware and the cost of PROPERLT adding these features. So, would you rather have a plastic "blob" imitating the engine, or no such thing at all? The opening features in 1:64 are present in NASCAR models. However, in this case the the production runs are simply huge across of several dozens of possibilities since besides quite a few NASCAR entries most of the teams "go through" several special schemes throghout the year. If you do really want engine and fuel system detail, perhaps it'll be better to have the model with removeable body allowing unobstructed view of the car inards.

Sergey

We the "older" collectors, surely would need a Microscope to see anything in this scale, 1/18 needs good light and reading jamjars.

If you want a decent model with decent detail go the 1/18 route.

Crickey!!

Not even many 1:43 scale cars with opening bits....let alone 1:64.

Can't see it working myself in this minute scale!!

Would like to see on some more 1:43 models though!!

Cheers,

Timbo.

hi gazzr gunn here from the johnny lightning board i do opening doors - hoods and trunks on 1/64 scale cars i also wire the motors up too ..put working 4 speeds in them and have also done tilt steering and put keys in the ingintion switch i have never done this to a australin car before but if you want one done maybe we can work out a deal to have one of your cars done.
e mail me at lee3513@aol.com and we will work something out.
i can tell you that im looking for 1/64 scale xb falcons condition does not matter as long as the body and glass is in great shape. later gunn

aussie road Ragers made the XW & XY GTHO falcons with opening Bonnets in 1/64 scale with production runs of 5,000 XW in quicksilver & 10,000 XY in both vermillion fire and True Blue .The detail wasn't overwhelming , but for its scale and being totally diecast it was ok . Technology has improved a lot since then so i'm sure biante could do a better more detailed model than those.
but as mentioned previously the price of such a model may not make this a viable project .
A nice thought though guy's!

cheers
Jim .

Amongst my old childhood Matchbox (Lesney) Cars, which are about 1/64, are to be found quite a few with opening doors & bonnets. While the motors ARE a full chrome "blob" , the detail is good enough to tell 6 from 4 from 8 etc. I even have a version of a hotted-up Dak-Dak flat-4 somewhere. Then there's "Mini-Ha-Ha" complete with Radial Aircraft engine....:)

I always regretted not getting the corresponding "Red Baron" Beetle to go with it, but as I'm a Mini nut, was happy with "Biggles".

Exactually my thoughts too Jim.

I did seriously think about buying them but at close to $20ea, I thought it was just too much for such a little car.

I think the problem with increasing the detail in such a small scale is the inherant costs, as in doing so they out-price themself from the market.

I'm really happy with the current quality & features of the minicars, privided they don't get too dear.....

cheers. :)

I say leave the uber-detail to the larger scales. Little enhancements here and there are fine, but not to the point where they become cost-prohibitive.

They are a nice supplement to the 1/18 display, but I'd hate to have to be as selective with the 1/64 due to cost as I am with the 1/18s.

Hey gunn, good to see you here mate. ;) . I will definitly take you up on the custom offer. Just have to wait for the cars I want done to be released.

Thanks for the the replies guys, I am neither for nor against this idea, just curious to hear everyone elses views. Maybe this is best left to the customisers.

I might add, that if anyone wants to see good(re: real) 1/64 engine depictions, check out some of the engines JL makes for their cars, probably the best of any 1/64 scale IMO.

hey chups .. what a little gem !
Its nice to see something different . Thats the good thing about a custom job , each person has their own individual idea as to what a model can look like .
and when it's tastefully done people can really appreciate the final product and the effort that has gone into it .
A nice little model , Well Done !

Cheers

Jim..
