Well it was sad to read tonight that Ross Palmer has closed the doors to Procar.

This is straight from the horses mouth on the procar website (http://www.procar.com.au)

Procar Australia Ceases Operations

23/4/2004:
MOTOR racing organiser PROCAR Australia announced today it is ceasing operations immediately.

Ross Palmer, Chairman and founder of the Brisbane-based company, said a meeting of directors today unanimously agreed to a strategic withdrawal from the industry.

PROCAR, founded in 1994, staged the PROCAR Champ Series events and four motor racing series, the Australian Nations Cup Championship, Australian GT Performance Championship, Australian Production Car Championship and V8 BRutes Series.

Mr Palmer said PROCAR Australia has been supported in the past by substantial subsidy both from him personally and businesses within the Palmer Group, a situation which could not be sustained.

PROCAR will consult with its competitors and other constituents next week to seek input on the future of the company’s intellectual properties, including the racing categories.

I just hope that some of the great categories that Procar ran are not lost as there was some great racing there.

Hopefully perhaps, we could at sometime see classes like GT-P, brutes etc..., running at the V8's or Konica rounds ???

cheers.

Dwindling numbers in Nations Cup probably signalled this, but it is a sad state of affairs. Hopefully something can be worked out so we don't lose these categories.

so does that mean they will not be completing the championship? im sure there would be some legal problems with that (booking venues, sponsors, competitors etc)

I always thought it was highly fanciful of Mr Palmer to undertake such an undertaking in the economic climate in which the catergory has been conducted. The overall chances of success were very optimistic.
No surprises here at all.

WOW!!! That is sad news. But after attending the Saturday at ORan Park the other week it is not all that surprising. I mean it looked like Monaro Vs Lambo in the Nations Cup round. I reckon there was only about 500 people if that there on Saturday.
The other classes have some great racing and it is ashame.

hmmm good question re the B24hr.

The brutes, GTP and APCC need to stay!!!

these are extremely cost effective ways (excluding hemmes and boatright) to get into motorsport.

Maybe the AVESCO could look at getting the brutes, imagine then if level one sponsors started sponsoring the utes, how hot would a pirtek XR8 ute look!!!

Brutes on the V8 bill would be fantastic, but who'd get the elbow?

Sad to hear about Procar.

I was at Clipsal and really enjoyed watching the Nations Cup, Brutes etc, etc.

Hope someone fixes the problem. Too many good drivers will have no ride.

I doubt Tony Cockwhatever would help. He has probably bagged the classes before on Superstars!

Out of interest if the show is called V8 Superstars .. what is he doing on it? Sorry I know wrong thread.

I went to the Bathurst 24 last year and enjoyed it very much. My dad and I had planned to go back up there this year, but maybe not :( .
