Monday morning our time and I can't wait! The races here are the hilite of the season for me. Rudd starts on pole with Waltrip second and Earnhardt Jnr third.
Can anyone beat the DEI cars at this track?

Well I just caught the end of the sport on 10 & the showed a huge smash - gee those things hit hard !!!
Fancy throwing beer cans & food at Robby Gordan because he won the race - how ferral are they  !!! (apparently the offical awarder the wrong driver with the victory)
Thats like throwing stuff at Skaife after he's won a race, actually I can relate to that after all :D !!!
On a serious note, it pretty awefull to have a car & driver showered in rubbish after winning a race - a bit like spitting on an AFL coach, which is also a pretty low act.
Perhaps the crowld should have vented their anger in a more constructive mannor towards the officals if they are the party indeed at fault, rather then the driver.
cheers.

I agree wholeheartedly brchi17. Wasn't JEFF Gordon's fault that he was the luckiest winner of a Cup race for many a year.
The race was set up for a fantastic finish when the last yellow came out. NASCAR should have either red flagged the race or cleaned things up quicker. The end was a HUGE anti-climax to the best race we've seen in a long time.
For what it's worth, I think Earnhardt was lining up a second-to-last lap pass on the VERY lucky and fortunate JEFF Gordon.
He's (Earnhardt) now at very short odds to add an eighth Championship to the Earnhardt famliy mantlepiece.
cheers.

Thanks for the correction on the name, I don't know where I got Robby from, but it was definately Jeff, not Robby.
cheers. :)

It's a bit of a tough one the way it is at the moment, bit I guess it's better (at least safer) than the way it was before when they used to race back to the line when the caution came out. Pretty spectacular, but also pretty damn dangerous.
Freezing the field when the caution is called makes it pretty subjective when cars are two or three wide and in the process of making passes. Remember the carry on a couple of years ago when Paul Tracy was in the process of passing (I think) Castro-Neves on the last lap or two of the Indy 500 and the caution came out for an incident elsewhere on the track? The debate went on for weeks afterwards with all sorts of threats of legal action and so on. All because both drivers/teams were sure that they were in front at the time of the call.
Maybe the answer is to do it like they do in dirt track speedway, and take the positions/results from when the cars crossed the finishline of the last recorded lap. But then if you'd made a pass after that you'd feel pretty hard done by.
I dunno, I'm just glad it's not me having to make the call!!

What a fantastic race! This track provides racing as good as you'll see anywhere.
It's all very well to say that Gordon was lucky blah, blah, blah, but he won the race the way the rules are so that is the end of the story as far as I'm concerned.
The crowd reaction afterwards was piss poor and just goes to what happens when relatives breed.
Isn't it fantastic to watch the precision and reflexes these guys have. Racing that close together at that speed is just awe inspiring.
Can't wait till the boys go back later this year!

Couldn't agree more. Got to admit I'm a bit of a Jeff Gordon fan (involved with speedway and speedcars, and met him when he was over here at Claremont Speedway back in the '80s as a teenager driving midgets and sprintcars - hasn't he gone on with things...) so I was pretty happy with the result, but if it had been the other way around ie Earnhardt Jr in front then fair enough - like you say - them's the rules.
But yes, crowd reaction was pretty disappointing (and it's not the first time) - Gordon is the main one that people seem to love to hate - I guess a bit like Skaife or Ingall - but on a different scale.
Pity the live coverage finished pretty much right after chequered flag & Gordon interviews - I'd like to hear some more driver reactions and find out what the hell happened to Tony Stewart after the flag! Replay on Fox 1 now so hopefully they show a bit more...

Yeah, that was poor. The replay is on now so I'm taping that as well in the hope they will show a little more post race (fingers crossed).

most of the race was pretty good for a restrictor plate race. but the finish sucked. there was a grand stand of pissed off people that payed alot of money to see a green flag finish. but nascar wanted to give gordon a win since its been a while since he got one. not to mention earnhardt jr. is leading the points its not good buissnes in there eyes to have the same guy winning all the time. believe me its all about the money, and how many asses they can put in the seats. its about as predictable as vince mcmanns wwe wrestling its just sports entertainment now a days. if you want to see real racing go to a local dirt track around
my area. were guys spend 150.000 dollars on a car to win a 1000 dollar purse. now thats racing!! but it isnt very profitable. nascars looking for a new enforcer to take dale earnhardt seniors place. it looks like jr may be the new man on the mountain. since nascars giving him the push to the top. he will be the man for awhile as long as he can keep ticket sales strong. sort of like skaife and ambrose in the v8supercar series. if they werent there would it be as popular? just something to think about.;)

Have to disagree with you there 11500 - As stated previously I am a Jeff Gordon fan so I was happy with the final result, but I would have been equally as satisfied who-ever had been in front at the time, whether it was Dale Jr, Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Derrick Cope or who-ever, as it's made abundantly clear before the fact what will happen if there is a caution after a certain lap - ie no red-flag etc, and everyone knows they're the rules.
I do agree however that overall the current rules aren't the best for a green flag finish, but they're the rules that NASCAR runs under at the moment. They're pretty subjective - especially at the restrictor plate tracks where you've got a pack of 40 or so cars two or three lanes wide at one time (although the new aero package seems to have split them up a bit this year) - how do you take a "snapshot" of the entire field at the precise moment the caution is called - that's why I suggested it maybe needs to go back to the last recorded lap.
But I think suggesting "nascar wanted to give gordon a win since its been a while since he got one. not to mention earnhardt jr. is leading the points its not good buissnes in there eyes to have the same guy winning all the time" is probably taking it a bit far. I take it from your post that you're not Gordon fan?!?!

No probs mate. I LOVE this series and will always start a thread before each race as soon as I know who got pole if I haven't been beaten to it by another NASCAR nut!
It's very easy to be cynical about results in this sport, but NASCAR is now the 2nd biggest sport in the US behind their poxy version of football. Just look at the crowds 11500. I think they speak for themselves.

Interesting stuff fella's.
Rules are rules, but NASCAR do have a history of pleasing themselves when convienient.
The race should have been red-flagged as soon as the last caution came out (bought out by Jeff Gordon's teammate no less), but unfortunately it was a very disappointing end to the most pulsating race. It was set up just beautifully.
I'll admit being an Earnhardt fan didn't help but these sorts of races do a lot for fringe viewers in OZ and the sport was bought into disrepute by NASCAR - I had my V8Supercar chums in the lounge room on Monday arvo watching over some bevvies and they just couldn't believe the anti-climax of it all.
Anyway, a great race till then.
Bring on the next one!!!
