Noticed a few new members posting recently so I figured I'd better do the same and say gday and introduce myself.
I'm both new to this forum and collecting models, but I walk past Triking's most mornings on the way to work, so I've been doing a bit of window shopping recently, and up until now it's been just that - not anymore...and it's all Bev & Trevor's fault.
My work held an evening with Sir Jack Brabham recently and the guys from Biante were the successful bidders in an auction we held for a signed Brabham print on the night. I "volunteered" to deliver the print and, when I did, I got the grand tour of the new showroom (as well as close-up look at the just-in prototype of the BA Pursuit Ute - thanks Bev & Richard!!).
Since that day I've been absolutely hooked - whoever calls this a hobby is kidding themselves - it's an addiction!! My credit card has just about cried enough.

Hi GSXR1 . welcome , as you have found this hobby is totally addictive , the more models you get the more you want and with so many fantastic models being released your going to be hooked even more as time goes on. I like yourself , firstly started by window shopping a lot but it eventually got the better of me , couldn't help myself . I'm envious , I wish I could have a tour of biante headquarters but I'd probably spend more there than I could afford ! anyhow i hope you enjoy the forum..
Cheers
Jim.

Thanks Jim
I only wish I had more time to look around. It was nearly knocking off time for the guys at the showroom (plus I had a heap of stuff still to get though at work) but I could have spent hours in there, and that was just the showroom I saw. My boss got to check out the showroom plus warehouse as well later in the week and he came away VERY impressed.
Maybe Admin will allow another visit in the future...hint hint

Welcome! It's always interesting to find out how people got into this in the first place. There must be heaps of people out there who are into motorsport, but who have dismissed the idea of collecting models as "kid's stuff" and "toys". But if they saw one of these fantastic models in the metal they might well be hooked instantly! It's certainly true that once you have one you want another to put beside it, and then you really find yourself looking for more! So what have you collected so far? Is there a theme, or is it just what takes your fancy?

Hi GSXR1 and welcome.
I haven't been a member for too long, but like me you will soon realise there's a great bunch of people here from diverse backgrounds and a wealth of knowledge.
I've been "addicted" for 16 yrs and still learn something new everytime I log in. See admin's thread on the costs involved in making these models - amazing stuff!
cheers

;) Love your honesty, yes its very additive, I’m just getting out of a ruff patch, sold some of my models, was very hard to do, was meant to sell a lot more but was finding it 2 hard, some friends n family helping, so I’m still collecting, so hold on to the ones you get & enjoy this amazing hobby.
Will take a trip through the Biante “Museum one day. Just like a kid in a candy store:D
So welcome aboard GSXR1.
Cheers

Thanks guys for the welcomes. I've always had an appreciation for model cars but, up until now, have managed to avoid "taking the plunge", knowing that I wouldn't be able to stop at just two or three, and that's proven to be the case so far!
To answer your question Nick, it's mainly late model V8 Supercars in both 1:43 and 1:18 so far, with the odd road car and rally car added to the mix. I don't have any real preference towards either Ford or Holden, more interested in the driver, or if the car just looks good (eg 2002 HYL Rick Kelly) Drivers of interest to me include Bright, Ambrose, Brock, Jason Richards, Larkham and Tander as well as a few others.
The Shopmotorsport stocktake sale the other week certainly helped get the collection up and running as well - I managed to stumble across it before it was mentioned on the forum here, so if anyone missed out sorry cause I helped clean them out! I will say that I won't be selling any of them off at a huge profit like I'm sure some are - they are all part of the collection.
As an aside, I've noticed in a couple of other threads other people new to collecting discussing the price of certain models. All I can suggest is to do a bit of research and shop around!!! For example I've seen some places asking $250 and up for Classic's 1:18 VU SS Redhot Ute - I managed to get hold of one without too much trouble for $165 with postage and a poster thrown in.
Same again for the Autoart 1:18 Possum Bourne Subaru - I've seen them advertised for $250 as well - I walked into a shop in Galleria Morley who had it sitting on the shelf for $150 (I know slightly higher than release price but still $100 cheaper than some places are asking)

That would be correct Timbo - was trying not to do too much shameless plugging, but if you went to or were aware of the Brabham night it wouldn't have been too hard to guess!

LOL.... bet he's got a 4x4, & I own a Mongoose BMX from the 80's, well it was like having a Monaro\XR6, but know its like owning a 180B. very out dated, I still can do wheelies\Monos...(ON 1 WHEEL) but knees hit the handel bars.
Welcome to the forums and Enjoy your stay.
Cheers
