The V8's website has a list of the radio frequencies used by each car. Do they use these same frequencies in New Zealand ?
Thanks

Gary, the freq are usually the same most rounds, but sometimes they do vary. What i normally do at each round i go to is visit the guys at McCall Communications(in the pits) who do the radios and get the freq off them or as i have a Icom scanner, they just plug it into the computer and download them straight on
Good luck

Sweet, my scanner is an icom too (an R10). I'll save the config to pc just in case then take it down with me and see if I can sweet talk them into doing that for me too :-)

...or you could just check the V8 website before the event...
The ACA has attempted to allocate frequencies that are not already in use in the vicinity of all tracks, but, as with all things in life, different frequencies are in use in different areas...

I got a list of freq's off of the website last night, but I get the impression from that and the supplementary regs that these freq's apply for the whole season. Yes ? No ? Anyone ?
The other users of channels within this band will be different here to in Australia so there may be conflicts here that you don't get, although presumably they are used in a simplex mode and so this would only affect people within a few km of the circuit.

Each round has an updated list found in the Event Schedule for the round...
Pukekohe's (http://www.v8supercar.com.au/calendars/clndrevent .asp?eid=157&ind=M) list hasn't been posted yet...

Yes the list maybe posted on the weekend of the event, but i find nearly always at least HRT change theirs around. This is why i seek out Steve and the team at McCall. They have always been more than helpfull to me.

How far ahead do they post these if they are going to ? We're down to 4 sleeps now ...
cr*!, I just got told that where I'm working we're not allowed to wear gear with logos because (a) we have to be neutral and (b) we're going to be on TV :-(
I wonder if a Biante cap would count as logo'd gear - how fast can I get one couriered ? LOLOL

I was just wondering if someone out there could help me out with this? What type of scanner would I need to hear the pit conversations? and preferably as cheap as possible. Is it just a UHF handheld scanner? does it need a specific band range or amount of channels or anything? Sorry but i don't have any knowledge of this type of thing and I would only use it for this purpose so I'm only interested in something cheap that does the job. Any info would be great.

Jason, the more you spend the better the quality, but the uniden range from dick smith are pretty good. the freq range used is usually between 450 and 475 mhz (uhf). Skaife, Bowe and Jones are usually "very colorfull" !!!!;)

So if you have all the teams on your scanner wouldn't it get congested and hard to distinguish who is who?

I put them in numerical order ... it wipes out my frequencies but I hook mine (Uniden Trunk Tracker 245xlte PC and copy the allocations so its not that much of a concern
So when theres chat on channel 1 I know its Ambrose, 22 is Kelly, 51 is Murph, 88 is Radisich, 89 is Wilson (mine only goes up to 300 channels) and so on
The best cheapest scanner?
Well yes, any of the DSE range.
My first was a Uniden Bearcat 60 XLT but they no longer stock them. It cost just over $100 when I got it and it did the job, allowing me to listen to most frequencies
A quick look on their website tells me theyve got a similar one to the 60 XLT for $168 - the 57xlt (http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/415510030b600dac273fc0a87f9c068 7/Product/View/D2758)
It is the same specs as my old 60 XLT which as I said served me well
For a decent one Ive gound my 245 XLT to do the job, although I got it for its trunk tracker feature to listen to the NSW GRN more then anything.
Hope this doesnt confuse, but the 57xlt seems to be th ebest bet for a "cheap" scanner.
If you really wanted check ebay for one, you may find a better scanner cheaper but beware, I know of alot of people who "tried to modify them" to give more scanning range etc and its backfired so they sell it as "un tested" or "working but no guarantees"

Jase, Leigh (icfp2297) had one at the 500 & it was really easy to know who was talking when (it said the car # on the screen).
Certainly made for some colourful entertainment when things were happening & helped due to the lack of FM commentary at the track.
cheers. :)

So if I got the 20 channel one from Dick Smith, could I put Ambrose on channel 1 and Bright on 2 as #50, Murph on 3 as #51 and so on? Or to do that would I have to get one that had 100 channels and put them on that actual channel? I'd say I would only want 20 channels but if I cannot customise channel 2 to say number 50 and so on, I would probably have to get 100 channels.

It doesnt matter what channel number you put them into, as long as you know who is who. when i had a cheap 20 channel one once i had murphy on Ch 15 (51 backwards) or Ch 6 (5 + 1) so that is one suggestion for you. I have the Icom model from Mccalls they are a bit hard to learn but are very good, i can type in the drivers name, team etc although i have all teams i only listen to a few and race control is good because you get to hear if any penaltys are going to be imposed.
