Hello, just a note to the cop collectors and Mini fans. English diecast company Vanguards are releasing a NSW Police version of the Cooper S. It is to be released sometime later this year. For a look at the prototype go to www.modelenium.co.uk and do a search for the "police mini". Pretty good looking model, as all Vanguards are. They make some great classic European cars from the 60's up until present time.

If you type 'Bathurst' into the search box you'll see it also comes up with a 2 car Mini diorama featuring the winning car #17C and another white Mini #22C (was this the 2nd place car ?).

The release date is September.

Ken, what scale is the Matchbox Mini? 1/43 or 1/64-ish? Also, what's a Bathurst wiiner? A sore winner?:D Jim Richards "Chatting"to the crowd after "that" Skyline win?:D

The winning car was number 13C. I'm not sure as to where 17C fininshed.

1966 Gallaher 500 :

Outright (and Class C) honours went to three Mini Cooper 'S' cars:

1st : #13 Aaltonen / Holden

2nd : #17 Stanley / Gibson

3rd : #22 McPhee / Mulholland

Sorry, I didn't look closely enough at the diorama. Its actually the second (#17C) and 3rd place (#22C) cars - confusing because the 2nd place car is almost identical to the winning car (British Racing Green with a white roof).

Ta, Ken. Next silly question: where do you order your Vanguards from? The shop I used to buy mine from has changed hands & as yet hasn't put any models out at all. I suspect that the new owner won't be stocking Vanguards, just the usual suspects.

Hi everyone, thanks to the forum for alerting me to these new cars. Its great to see Vanguards doing them. They did a good job of the 1960 winning Vauxhall and I hope there are plenty more early Bathurst/Phillip Island 500 cars to come.
However, the numbers on the side of the Minis seem to be slanted, which is incorrect, but hopefully they will straighten them up by September.
Also the Bathurst 1966 winning car, number 13, did not have a plain white roof. It was covered in dots the same as on the bonnet (and they are believed to be yellow, not orange).
This race is a bit of an enigma for those of us fascinated by Bathurst history. It is just about the only one where no colour photos have been found. Does anyone out there have colour photos of the 66 Bathurst?

Steve I know hobbyco in Sydney stock them. They are online so you might be able to order the cars from them.

Or I could always get them for you and post them to you if you really want them? I am often visiting to see what they have in.

What - and do you want us to eat your lunch for you too:D

Their web site doesn't release the specific links so you'll just have to keep searching, sorry mate.

Try "bathurst" for the diorama.

Cheers

Thanks, Goldie, I'll let you know. There's probably a few online shops that stock them, I'm just being lazy.
If Biante does do the Bathurst Mini in 1/18 will it be as it started the race, I wonder, or as it finished? With slightly "dented" roof, that is.:D

Thanks, Ken. Knew that Rock Wobbily had some, but Tuggers is a bit of a drive from here.:) Only been to Monaro a couple of times, a while ago, they didn't have any then. Have to find an excuse to go over to Qbn.

Been keeping an eye on these. As well as the already mentioned Bathurst-winning Mini, the Diorama (which looks a bit like the Esses to me) & the Police Mini, there's also a London-Sydney Rally Austin 1800 that was then registered here & Rallied locally. Also a 4-set of Monte-Carlo Rally winning Minis (disq. the 3rd time, bloody Frogs), a race Mk.1 Jaguar etc. etc. Worth a look if you like old Pommy Cars. I could make up a Mini Shelf alone if I were that mad.:D
