Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone else besides Chairman is going along to the V8's at Pukekohe.
I know I wish I was there, it's a great spectacle. Fastest average speed of all the V8 rounds I believe.

Silly boy - check this out
David Besnard was forced to play catch up with the field after an embarrassing start to round three of the V8 Supercar Championship Series today. Besnard, driving the WPS Racing BA Falcon, had to sit out the first practice session at Pukekohe Raceway in New Zealand after leaving his racing helmet in his hotel room in Auckland.:D

It's about 17-18C there at present. The rain is expected to be quite heavy at times this afternoon, so I would be surprised if they managed to complete a full race. They may not even start it, as Pukekohe is quite susceptible to surface flooding in heavy rain.
At this stage, tomorow's weather looks ok.

I remember a big flood up there a few years back, I went out to the track afterwards and there were thousands of onions stuck in the Amco barriers along the front straight, they had come down from the hills behind the circuit.
Pukekohe for our Aussie mates is known as the Potato and Onion capital of NZ:D Heaps of farms around there.

Was glad I decided to stay at home for that one. I copped Phillip Island last year and missing the big wet at the creek (more like a river that day!) was not something I'm regretting too much!
Wonder if the delaying of race one will affect Channel 10 with having to edit and prepare three races in one day?

This from TVNZ:
May 1, 2004
By Dale Budge at Pukekohe Park Raceway
Persistent heavy rain has caused racing to be abandoned on day two of the PlaceMakers V8 International at Pukekohe Park Raceway on Saturday.
Heavy rain throughout the morning has caused some flooding around Pukekohe Park Raceway and wrecked havoc for the event organisers at the V8 Supercar International on Saturday afternoon.
The rain and surface water on the track itself has brought the cancellation of the Formula Ford race scheduled for 1.40pm and the abandonment of all V8 Supercar racing, originally set to start at 2.35pm.
The three races will now be played out on Sunday.
* More to follow.

No not really I don't think?, temps seem ok up to 20/21 today and tomorrow, lows down to 15 (Canberra was worse yesterday - bloody cold when I was there), Wasn't the Rally fairly fine this year? They have had a lot of rain to begin this year. Very green! They have had some nice weather as well - go figure. They say NZ's weather is the dregs that gets sent from Oz:confused:
This from the TVNZ weather: Sunday 2 May
HIGH 20c
LOW 15c
Showers then rain, some heavy falls. Northerlies. Hope chairman comes on line tonight.

Ambrose and the others just didn't have the car speed at the end.
Top race!

Congrats to Bright on the round win and 2 race wins! Great effort with the new VY.
Must admit Muphy's move on Ambrose late in the race was great. They had a good battle. Still seems to be Ambrose flying the Ford flag, while there alot of Holden guys chasing hard - watch out Ambrose ;)

Aaaah, three days away but now back to my own hot shower and bed.
I was one of the Pit Lane marshalls - we were the marshalls on the track side of the armco watching what was going on in pit lane, playing traffic cone for the support classes service vehicles, and autograph hunting :-) - there were plenty of chances to wander up and down in front of the garages looking at the cars and snaffle anyone who stuck their nose outside to see how high the creek was.
Kiwiracing - yes they used to suffer from bad flooding along the start straight and in particular the pit crossing, I remember once seeing a full metre of water laying there. Since then a drainage ditch 6 metres wide and 6 metres deep has been dug between pit lane and the track, on Saturday night water flowing down the ditch came within a metre and a half of the top. Oh, and the weather for Rally NZ was postcard perfect this year all day every day apart from a bit of fog in the early mornings.
Friday - nice weather, things went more or less according to the programme except a couple of practise sessions were lost after Racing Ray Williams stacked the leopardskin Porsche, and a good time was had by all (except Ray).
Saturday - It wasn't just pissing down, it was windy as well so we all froze, in fact two of us ended up with hypothermia. A couple of snippets that I don't think made the news - there was a report that most of the drivers were keen to get out and run a race on Saturday afternoon and one idiot steerer even said they could do 10 laps swerving behind the safety car washing the water away. He was off in la la land. If the cars had gone out in that they would have floated away. Most of the drivers were not keen to get out and race - they were standing in pit lane talking to each other about how much they did *not* want to go out, and we were standing next to them waiting for the meeting to be called so we could go home. In the last half hour the racing switched from happening to not happening so many times it was beyond a joke, when we got told for the third time that it was not happening we all cleared off before they changed their minds again.
While they were trying to make their minds up about the race a report came through that three cars parked in the support paddock [off to the left behind turn 1, or 'behind the stables' for those who recall the old *full* circuit] had started floating and were headed for an excavation pit.
Sunday - fantastic day, neat racing, awesome atmosphere, and believe it or not, we only had about one minute of light rain today, just before the last race (hence Ambrose's duff tyre choice, thinking as we all did that it was about to come hosing down). There was loads of water laying around and plenty of shots on tv of cars throwing up spray and wipers going flat out but that was all just surface water that hadn't drained yet. 10 laps swerving around behind the pace car, yeah right.
I couldn't take the nikon becuse we had to be a lot more discrete here than at the rally but I did have the canon in my pocket and I did manage to snap off a few photos, they'll be up shortly on the website.
For autographs, well my "official" ID swinger has been signed by Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall, and my other "official" ID swinger *cough* has been signed by Murph and Rick Kelly. I didn't think I'd get Russell Ingall, I didn't get a chance until he was walking the 20 feet from his car back to his garage after the last race and then he shook his head so I backed away but a minute later he popped out of the garage again looking for me and signed my swinger :D. Marcos signed my swinger and then signed my "official" bib as well which we had to hand back, unfortunately that bib got lost a couple of minutes later *coughs again* so I had to pay for it and be issued a new one  The bibs are owned by AVESCO and had to be counted back in and so far as I know they all came back except the one I lost so I think that is a bit of a unique prize, certainly among us tight fisted marshalls it is a one-off.
And now you'll have to excuse me, I have some very important sleep to get on with.

both murph's move on ambrose and the original ambrose move on murph's... superb effort to both drivers... thats the kind of driving we need to see more of in the championship...

Great result for Jason and thoroughly deserved. The way the points are this year you really can't afford to put in a bad round as if you do your championship is as good as over.
Sandown and Bathurst will decide the championship this year me thinhs.

Gary,
Your thumbnails have turned out very well, I am a bit early for the full size photos, will view them later.
I did like the photo of Ambrose's car during scruitineering when they were measuring his front spoiler with the template.
It is good having a "spy" on the inside.... where the public can't go... I don't normally see photos from the officials area.
Good work..... Thanks ...

i thought with the lack of pitstops because of the weather situation it got alittle boring to watch once the leaders got out in front the race was over - apart from the murph ambrose past at the end - it just lacked a little something for me :o

All the pics are there now, the ftp fell over partway through while I was out
It did get a bit processional at times, as you can see from the pictures a whole lot of people in pit lane really had anything to do except watch their monitors or sit outside and watch the big screen. I was supposed to be scrutineering pitstops for the Shell Helix team the first race, the PWR team the second race, and Pirtek the third race. I didn't get my pen out all day.
Still, the roar from the terraces when Murph got back past Marcos ... wow !
:D

Guernsey ? Is that what you West Islanders ;) call the "official" bibs ?
Nah that's another one of the marshalls, he saw the Champion girls giving out posters so got a poster and then got the girls to sign it. I did like what that girl wrote on the back of it !
(He is left with the problem of how to hang the poster so that he can see the front and the back together :D)

had a mental block and the word bib just wouldn't come out...I was thinking jacket, pullover...etc etc...thought guernsey was the most appropriate of my inappropriate words...LOL:D
BIB:confused: now how did I not remember that!

Here's a link to an interesting editorial about AVESCO's wisdom at running a V8 Supercar round at Pukekohe in May....
Bad Choice by Aussie V8's (http://www.car.co.nz/v8.asp?articleid=2868)
In my opinion, it can rain at Pukekohe anytime of the year, and Rally NZ was run two weeks earlier (in roughly the same area) in perfect weather.
